Put too much creating on a 7 foot center’s shoulders. That gets fixed with a confident point guard.

Could anyone have seen Simmons cratering to this extent?

Yup.  Can't put the playmaking responsibility on Embiid.   But, yes, you could see Simmons cratering.  And it all centers on his foul shooting and his complete lack of confidence in foul shooting.  His defense remained strong, but offensively, he became extremely pensive due to the fear of being fouled and put on the foul line to convert.  And frankly, he should be concerned with that, because he hasn't done the work to figure out how to shoot foul shots... so he shouldn't be put in a position to be out there in those moments.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

No!  No chance. And if someone says they did, they are lying.  I've never seen a pro athlete shrink like that.

Nope, I'm not lying.  I predicted that this would happen in Round 1.  The coaching staff never adjusted to get him off the court in those situations though, and then it got worse.

I mean…he did shoot 100% from the field at least

I disagree.   That dunk he passed up cost the Sixers a point, as he gave up a free two, allowing Thybulle to get fouled and he missed a foul shot.  At worst, Simmons gets the dunk and then maybe gets an 'and 1' situation.

Maybe Simmons wasn’t all that from the start , first rounders in the NBA bust at a extremely high rate .
I wouldn’t mind him playing for the Jazz , they lack a quality perimeter defender , he would fix that , don’t need him to score 20 every game .

What the sixers would try to get in a trade  , and what they would get are two different things .

Depends what you consider electric.

Big plays on the way to a 17 point loss. sure I can see that.

Amazing plays and catches in blow out time, yep. I see that too.

It would help Hurts to be a better player as we load on up defense next season.

There is a lot of woulda coulda shoulda.

We could have kept Jimmy and maybe traded for Kemba Walker.  Oh and drafted Tatum instead of Fultz.

So you would have had:

Embiid

Simmons

Tatum

Butler

Walker

Where Simmons would basically just be a slashing 4.

Kemba sucks.  There was never a chance to draft Tatum.  The Celtics wouldn't have traded with us if we were going to take Tatum.

Also Jimmy didn't want to be here and that is why he isn't here.  He wanted Brown and Simmons gone.  So the scenario there is maybe the Sixers should have gotten rid of Brett and Simmons and stuck with Jimmy.

Hockey post. Better report me

I didn't know this. Thought he just wanted to stay with the Lions

Such an odd Flyers' career.  Traded Recchi for 2 key components of the Flyers late 90s and early 2000s teams in LeClair and DeJardins.  It's hard to say that wasn't a good trade for the Flyers. It's not often that you can trade a HOF player and improve a team in the short-term but that trade did.  He then re-joined the team and had a good second stay where they were competitive but never really cup contenders aside from reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2004.

Pivoting to the Eagles.  I cannot believe the secondary we are going to be going with this year.  It should be a huge story and it's hardly discussed.  Slay and then who?  James or Maddox on the outside?  With McCleod being hurt to start the season, who is the other safety?  Wallace?  Tons of questions on the defensive side, especially the back end.  Could get ugly.

You have to believe they will sign someone.  I'm guessing Conley.

I think many people have given up on next year, so many things are slipping under the radar.

What a tremendously stupid organization.  I mean Johnson deserves blame and likely wasn't really that interested in continuing his career but they could have traded him for a first easily.

Yep. What’s even more odd is he was traded from the Penguins to Philly right after helping them win a Stanley Cup.

You predicted what to happen?  What specifically? Cause I’m more talking about Simmons completely disappearing and no one could have foreseen him shrinking so much that he would pass up an open dunk.  I call BS.

I predicted that they'd need to pull him for offensive/defensive subs or lose against a real playoff team.  As for Ben's shrinking?  Yeah, I predicted that he'd continue to struggle at a historic rate at foul shooting.  Did I expect him to be afraid to handle the ball, shoot, etc.?  Well, I did say that having him on the court at the end of games was basically playing 4 against 5.   And what did we see?  Exactly that, to the point that he turned down a dunk to pass to a player further from the basket.

Ideal way to tank without tanking and to find out if your QB has what it takes to be a passer.   This team will need to score 30+ points to win consistently, and you can only score at that rate by passing.   As Jaws says, "You get points out of the passing game."

What does Johnson deserve blame for exactly?   He followed the Barry Sanders model... which followed pretty closely the Jim Brown model.   The Lions were a laughing stock, but weren't about to trade away two all-time greats.

Simmons should have gotten to this point a couple years ago where reality punched him in the face.  Now it's too late for him in Philly.  Its like Nelson Agholor, the narrative and expectations are bigger than his actual performance now.  Its over, gotta move on.

Sixers also need to get rid of Doc and get a real coach, not a pseudo-celebrity coach.  Doc is one of the most overrated coaches of all time, he got badly badly outcoached all series (as per usual)

We needed a coach that players respected. Because Brett Brown couldnt get the lazy Simmons and Embiid motivated enough. It seemed like Doc would be the guy. But he only helped get Embiid to take his game to another level. He instead, decided to coddle Simmons even more than Brett Brown. Doc paid for that decision with this embarrassing playoff exit. Unfortunately the fans paid a higher price because we all KNEW already that Simmons is not a PG, and Doc committed to an entire whole year more of trying to make him one.

They have to be adding someone through FA.  I think the safety position is OK with Harris.  I don't think they can go into the year without another veteran to start outside.

Agree on Kemba, and I agree on the Tatum... with that being said...

Fultz, Bust. Ben, Bust. Jahlil, Bust. Feel like everyone liked the Birdges picked and they traded him(go figure), Elfred Peyton stinks and then to trade him for was a head scratcher and dumb.

Plus, I feel like these contending teams always hit on a late first rounder or 2nd rounder and even though the 6ers had a million chances over the last 4 or 5 years they got nothing

Sixers have hit on late picks.  They hit on Matisse and Maxey.

Not even sure what you were trying to say about the Elfrid Payton trade.  But that was a brilliant move by Hinkie.

I think he could have held out or pushed more for a trade rather than retiring.  It also looks like teams wanted to trade for his rights after he retired but I think a trade didn't happen, in part, because he did not seem like he wanted to play again.

Same is true for Barry Sanders and Jim Brown.  I don't think the Lions were ever serious about being willing to trade either of them.  I think they saw the black eye of trading HoF players still at the peak of their game (granted, about to tail off) as worse than them retiring early, because the player retiring puts the blame on the player, rather than the organization... and you are playing right into their hands.   The Lions are the issue, as I see it and have been a laughingstock for over half a century, with only one playoff win since 1957 (their last championship)... and that was in 1991, with Barry.

Still a lot of time before the start of the season. I’m sure more moves will be made.

Has any other organization in the NHL traded away their top talent as much as the Flyers to only see them win cups in other cities?  Just off the top of my head and I know there are more:

Mark Recchi

Justin Williams

Rod Brind'Amour

Mike Richards

Jeff Carter

I've always considered the Flyers to be a well run organization but the more I look back the more I question what in the world they do.

His contract would make things more difficult , and the fact that at this point in his career , He’s unplayable on offense in tight games , if you’re in the penalty . I think he is done in Philly  , it’s a matter of making the money work , and finding a team who needs a stud defender , and not looking for offense

With a minimum of 70 attempts, Ben Simmons' 34.2% free throw percentage this postseason is the worst in a postseason in NBA history
