I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Hopefully it's a return to those great 2010 Kelly greens but I feel like instead we will get some black helmet to go with the black jerseys.

havent you paid attention to all the times Lurie said he was trying to get this rule changed so we could get the kelly green back?

1. Jalen Hurts is one of only six quarterbacks in NFL history (and the only rookie) to record three straight games with a touchdown pass and 60 rushing yards. He also averaged at least 5.5 yards per rush in each of those games. The only other players in NFL history with three straight games with a TD pass, 60 rushing yards and a 5.5 average at any point in their career are Tobin Rote in 1951, Randall Cunningham in 1990, Michael Vick in 2004 and Lamar Jackson in 2019. Hurts did it in his first three starts.

4. Of the 56 defensive ends drafted in the top half of the first round from 1990 through 2017 (guys who’ve had a chance to play four years), Derek Barnett is one of only 13 who’s never had seven sacks in a season.

8. Hurts entered the NFL 20 years after Vick, but both threw their longest career touchdown pass (so far) to DeSean Jackson against the Cowboys in Dallas. For Vick it was a 91-yarder in 2010 and for Hurts an 81-yarder in December.

10. Hard to believe there’s only nine position players left on the Eagles’ Super Bowl roster: Brandon Graham, Jason Kelce, Fletcher Cox, Lane Johnson, Barnett, Zach Ertz, Isaac Seumalo, Brandon Brooks and Rodney McLeod. If the Eagles trade or release Ertz, that would leave McLeod as the only position player left from the Super Bowl team that’s not a lineman.

That is not a good stat.  You don't want your QB running.

I've never seen stats (especially those first 2) that require such a ridiculous amount of digging.

Tobin Rote won a NFL Championship.

Could be argued that Randall deserves to be in the HoF and that 2004 season when Vick had the same feat he got the Falcons to the NFC Title Game.  And of course Lamar won MVP that season as well.

I think it can be useful for a QB to sprinkle in 5-6 runs per game against 30+ throws -- moving the sticks with your legs is sometimes necessary when everything breaks down.

Unfortunately, from the GB game onward Hurts ran 51 times against 145 passes -- that's not a good ratio at all.

So no Super Bowls :-)

Tom Brady has 1,043 rushing yards! (yes, I'm messing with you)

Can't knock the guy for playing before the Super Bowl era.  Was still a NFL Champion and league MVP.

To your last point, the Eagles always emphasizes the lines and has invested heavily on both the OL and DL.  It would only be natural that you find the prized assets there.

No. Don't even think about it.

I'm just messing with you. Personally, I don't want our QB running as much as Jalen did last year.

Reuben Frank, anytime he gets to write a ridiculous Jalen Hurts stats article that he has to set 15 parameters

Just on the surface of it, my perception has always been Newton ran too much, Vick ran too much to last (even though he was a spectacular runner), Russell Wilson runs about the right amount.  I went through the career numbers of some running QBs and calculated their running attempts vs passing attempts:

Randall Cunningham -- 18.0% ratio of runs vs passes

Donovan McNabb -- 11.5%

Russell Wilson -- 18.5%

Cam Newton -- 24.6%

RG III -- 24.2%

Michael Vick -- 27.1%

Way back in the old days Fran Tarkenton was 10.4% and Roger Staubach was 13.9%.  So far in his short career Lamar Jackson is at an obscene 50.9% while Patrick Mahomes is at 10.2%.  Hard to imagine Lamar Jackson will last very long (either through injury or passing effectiveness).

This post isn't about Kelce but I'm referencing him to make a point. I think what's getting lost in this argument is what an unusual player Kelce is. I can't think of another center who does what he does. There simply haven't been any centers as agile and athletic as he, ever. Most centers play A gap to A gap and that's it. Creed Humphrey, also a 2nd round pick though much later in the round, is a prime example. Kelce pulls and keys our outside zone runs and screens. Nobody else does that. The point I'm trying to make here is that we have a distorted view of what the position normally entails. Dickerson at center will be a radically different player and our run game will change, of necessity. Putting him at guard will do much the same thing. He can certainly pull for traps and powers but to get outside the right tackle (coming from LG)? I just don't see it. My preference is for him to play center and keep Seumalo at LG. You've got to have at least one  move interior OL.

Dermonti Dawson, to a lesser extent, was quite a "move" center.

There are no trucks, no quarterback can do a damn thing without decent team mates.

Yup.  Mahomes was quite ordinary without OTs.

Top QBs can get teams over the hump , those are trucks , imo

brady in Tampa perfect example , Winston couldn’t get it done , Brady comes in and gets them over that hump .

I'd dangle Brandon Brooks or Seumalo at them for any of their top 5 CB or WR.

I had asked a few days ago the benefit of waiving Grimes from IR.  This was discussed today and helps a ton.

Trevon Grimes

Geoff Mosher: "The Eagles waived Trevon Grimes, the rookie free agent wide receiver, off IR with an injury settlement. So what happens from here?”

Adam Caplan: "The reason why they do this now instead of doing it later is because they know he will be able to come back. This is not a four-month rehab from his knee surgery. He should be back. I don't know when in August, but I believe he'll be available in August at some point, but with the injury settlement he cannot come back before the agreed upon time even if physically he's ready to go. He cannot come back until the agreed time. That's just the way the rules are. Let's say this settlement is for eight weeks but he's ready in six, he cannot come back before eight weeks no matter what happens. The Eagles gave him fully-guaranteed money so they have an interest in bringing him back to give him a look. So hopefully, he gets on the practice field in August, and they can assess him before they set the 53.”

I don't know why you'd want to trade away OL after what you saw happen last season.  14 different OL combinations was the biggest single factor in the team having 4 wins last year.
