Sure.  With the 500K in cap space they actually have.  Only way it happens if Ertz is moved or cut, and Howie appears to have overplayed his hand and this is going to linger into training camp.

He will sign a guy for the league minimum with five voidable years tacked on. He’s a cap genius.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Agreed. I would count the ancient Greeks and Romans as being in the Western European tradition.

I think it is striking how few major sports are not of the WE tradition.

I mean the modern olympics started as part of a western euro movement to bring back the games.  I think there's a lot to be said about the influence of imperialism and the hegemony of the West and it's influence during this time.  I do think sports like Karate, MMA, Tae Kwon Do, and Judo, have been added and are definitely of eastern origin.  I also wonder how many "western" sports such as fencing were really influenced by Asian  cultures and ideas.  I mean ball sports have been around for ages but sports played with rubber balls are mesoamerican.  African cultures has games like field hockey.  The Chinese had games like golf well before it arose in the west. It's hard to know what influence those games have had in the development of modern sports.  Certainly there's no basketball without the idea of rubber balls.  Rubber balls weren't a European invention.

Global warming is a direct result of the invention of the rubber ball.

"this all came from ancient Latin American’s messing around with some funny looking trees so they could play ball."

Sure. And Hightower is the best route runner on the team.

There should have been a deal made pre-draft.  I think Howie overvalued Ertz when his return was always going to be a 5th round pick or less.  The value is getting the cap savings by moving on, as well as getting an additional draft pick for 2021.

I know there are people who feel the Eagles should play him this season and get a comp pick back when he leaves for free agency, but that's not realistic.  The guy doesn't want to be here and didn't put full effort in last season.  The only way he produces this season is by going all out in a contract season -- but that doesn't seem to be the mindset players take anymore.

Betting he'll put up big numbers this season and bring back a 3rd round comp pick after signing a mega deal somewhere else is a fool's bet.

I don't think Howie has overvalued him. I think Ertz has probably been hesitant to agree to restructure with new teams in a trade because he would rather be a free agent.  At this point, however, the team should release him.

I think if no one makes a decent offer hold on to him. When they realize they were wrong and youre not cutting him, youll get a good deal by the trade deadline.

His contract is also more manageable during the season as it will be discounted by 40%. The team that acquires him also gets a comp pick back if he walks.

In that case then they have 2 really good RPs/closers as that's Velasquez also.  He's usually good the 1st time through the lineup and then falls apart.

I agree.  Those 2 could make a really good 8th (Vinny) and 9th (Howard) combo

Ah so the Saints who were in worse cap trouble than us have figured it out....hmmmm....seems like teams always find a way to get under the cap. Again, armchair cap experts will never be able to figure out the cap. It's an exercise in futility.

He was on his 5th year option and had an $11M cap hit. Doing an extension probably lowered his 2021 cap hit.

Exactly.  And they are currently 14 million over the 2022 cap.  They will continue gutting the roster and letting good players walk.

The worst stats kept during camp will be the completion percentage of Hurts

Will it beat out sacks by Joe Ostman?

If hanging on to Ertz means not signing a better FA CB, I think they should cut him.

ESP was built for this moment.

I think there has to be a new Ostman this year.  Maybe someone like JaQuan Bailey.

Right. They figured it out. Are you worried Howie won't get under the cap before the season starts? Because I don't believe any team has ever failed to do so, outside of the weird uncapped year and even then it was only Washington and Dallas who screwed up.

https://www.espn.com/blog/new-orleans-saints/post/_/id/34072/how-the-saints-cleared-111-million-in-cap-space-and-how-it-affects-next-year

They lost a ton of talent, pushed money down the road, and they have a ton of 2022 free agents.  They made the problem worse.  Drew Brees has cap hits of 11.1 and 11.5 million in 2021 and 2022.

A rookie QB with no off season work, no preseason, little work with the starters, and thrown into a terrible offense wasn’t accurate. I’m shocked.
