January 4, 20214 yr There’s so many rumors not coming out of the woodwork about Tua and the dolphins potentially trading and taking a QB. It might just be to drive up the pice if 3 but i actually think there’s a legitimate chance. Sando talks about it in this column "The team that is really intriguing is Miami at 3,” an evaluator said. "I think part of why they played Tua this year was to groom him, but also to evaluate him. It is not a foregone conclusion he’s their guy. If they think there is a franchise guy better than Tua, why wouldn’t you take him at this point? Somebody would come after Tua.”

I believe we are desperate on the defensive side, though, so I'm looking DL (particularly DE) and CB, and a little later, LB and S. Of course, if Sewell is there, I'm taking him. It's best to expect little to nothing from Lane and Brooks moving forward. I think of them as temporary glue holding the rebuilt OL together as they find other pieces. Temporary glue that plays at a probowl level when healthy, but temporary and unreliable nonetheless. The value play is to find a way to have Dillard and Mailata as our future bookend tackles. It prevents further investment in the position and justifies the first round investment in Dillard. That would mean Dillard at LT, Mailata at RT. Maybe that's wise, maybe it's not. Otherwise, I'd take Sewell if available. I don't think things are so desperate on defense. We have an average defense and one of the worst offenses in the NFL...in a league that neuters defense when games, divisions, and championships are determined by offenses scoring at will. We need a QB, we need 4 OL to prove they can be part of the future (and the one I'm taking for granted here isn't even that great...but we do have lots of potentials here), we need 2 starting quality WRs. I'll prioritize all of that before anything on defense.

Smith isn't that fast to begin with. It's January, there's 100 different draft scenarios right now, in which only a handful of them have a chance in actually playing out that way. This happens every year.

He wasn't going to come out and say yes Carson is available for trade, then we look desperate. and it makes it so much harder to trade him because if we are desperate, it means he's a bad qb, the fo has to make teams believe that's he's got talent and just needs a change of scenery.

January 4, 20214 yr One thing I don't want is an offensive lineman in Round 1. If this year is going to be a clusterfudge and the Eagles have a top pick again in 2022 then I want to see what the current Eagles lineman can do. Mailata. Herbig/Driscoll, Seumalo, Brooks, Johnson Dillard, Opeta, Juriga are the backups. Draft a young center. If that line bombs and none of the young guys show potential then you go O-line in 2022.
January 4, 20214 yr Chase is being hyped (remember draft darling Ruggs when JJ outplays him every week?) I'm taking my WR in 2. A guy like Olave or Terrance Marshall(Chase's teammate) would do just fine
January 4, 20214 yr Anyone else surprised at the playoff schedule? Usually they save the best matchups for primetime, but I feel the early window got the two best matchups and the late window got the two worst. What the hell is the Bucs/WFT doing on Saturday night?

It's too early to talk about Tua.

And the guy has just non stop produced, as the #1, #2, #3 option, at every receiver position, with and without stud receivers in the lineup with him, on the biggest stages, etc. All the skill you want: route running, his 40 will be faster than most expect, his breaks are good, his route running is elite, he gets off a jam. And hes no diva, just a football player. All the boxes are emphatically checked with this guy except his weight which is probably the least important thing considering it hasnt hindered him at all 170lb, not tall, not that fast. Great route runner, huge production in a year in which he was surrounded by an NFL team playing against college teams that barely practiced. Was behind guys his exact age on the depth chart who went much later than he will go this year. Just not seeing it.

I didn’t like him all that much as a prospect before the major injury he suffered. I thought he was overrated. I didn’t love his arm strength and thought even Herbert was a better prospect than him and i wasn’t head over heels about Herbert. I really question how you could take him at 5 never seeing him play again in a game after suffering that injury. Workouts wouldn’t cut it for me. I think Miami was infatuated with getting him before the season last year and didn’t think they’d have shot to get him at 5 prior to the season as he likely was going top 3. They thought of it as excellent value at 5 when reality with that injury it might have been poor value especially with Herbert killing it in LA interesting point on tua and Hawaiian aspect. Not sure i entirely believe it cause he had success at bama which isn’t all that much further away than Miami. I don’t think it’s out of the question though.

I think his 40 time is going to be slower than most expect and that's the worrisome part. I think he's a 4.5 stopwatch guy. Love his production, his smoothness, attitude and all but he's called the Slim Reapor for a reason. He MIGHT be 175. People are going to argue DJack was around the same weight. DJack has speed like no other. Just now, Sack that QB said: I really don't think anyone cares about watching Brady play anymore. I sure as hell don't. The senior bowl is at the end of month (did I hear the Eagles coaching staff got the honor this year?). The little details like we are out of the playoffs, have no cap space and are picking #6... yeah, the draft season has come early this year in Philadelphia. I guess we can talk about which veterans will get there June 1st cut versus the ones who will get bonuses beyond the life of their contract.

I was one of the few who wanted lamb over both jeudy and ruggs. And jeudy was my second choice of the top 3 guys.

They did this to themselves. 1) Relying on older often injured players who you paid handsomely, guys like Djax, Alshon, JP - 2) Bad Bad Bad Drafting- Guys Like Sidney Jones, JJAW, etc 3) Using a 2nd rd pick on a QB, when you clearly needed more talent around your Franchise QB, based on the above. and inviting in a QB controversy 4) By not calling a balanced attack to help protect your badly injured Oline, and young inexperienced WR's and understandably struggling QB. They clearly have outsmarted themselves, over and over and over again. (2) I was thrilled with the Jones pick. I was just wrong. It is so hard to evaluate college DBs on TV. I thought he was better than King at Washington. I wasn’t sold on JJAW but I didn’t think Metcalf was worthy either. Still say he is a great fit for Seattle with Wilson. Would be good with Big Ben too. Would be like Cook has been at most of his stops. Don’t like Metcalf with Wentz or Hurts. (3) Sudfeld’s play last night justified the Hurts pick. If we learned anything this year, it is that depth counts. BTW, kudos to Howie and Doug for allowing Sudfeld to put some play on tape, albeit behind a pretty bad OL. He stayed on a RFA tender and then signed a lesser cost free agent tender this year, even after being pushed down, first by McCown and then Hurts. His time is done here but offering him some tape time in a no PS game season as he moves on was a righteous move by the Eagles and why they are liked by players. (4) Sanders has nursed a hamstring and knee this year. They just didn’t have the right RB group this year for that. And the Gs when Pryor was playing there could not open holes. Look at Mailata’s first games and his later games and note the improvement in run blocking. Herbig got much better too. I think Herbig’s conditioning was better this summer than last and improved as the season went on. That helped the running game as much as Seumalo’s return. Last night it was interesting to see Juriga playing the third tackle. He got to the second level.
