I was totally kidding about trading both. I just wanted to poke fun at the fact if you traded them or one of them the stupid excuse they need a cheap backup comes back in play.

to me if they deal wentz i don’t think a QB is off the table at 6.

Did alshon inform her of this?

Yeah, but it wouldn't shock me at all. If the new coach and the scouts love him at 6 I could see them clean house and rebuild around the kid.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Why do people think college QBs are guaranteed to be successful, even if picked high:

2019:  Murray #1, Jones #6, Haskins #15

2018:  Mayfield #1, Darnold #3, Allen #7, Rosen #10

2017:  Trubisky #2, Mahomes #10,  Watson #12

2016:  Goff #1, Wentz #2, Lynch #26

2015:  Winston #1, Mariota #2,

2014:  Bortles #3, Manziel #22,

2013:  Manuel #16

2012:  Luck #1, RGIII #2, Tannehill #8, Weeden #22

2011:  Newton #1, Locker #8, Gabbert #10, Ponder #12

No one claimed that they are guaranteed.  That's a nice strawman though.   Meanwhile, you just made the argument that to get a top backup, you have to spend a top 40 pick.   If a backup needs to be a top 40 pick, where do you think a top starter should be drafted?   You'd have to say in the top 10, no?

Third round QBs (except for 2012, a truly freak season, but Osweiler went ahead of Wilson, Foles and Cousins, go figure), are marginal backups, even most 2nd rd QBs flop. When i say flop, I mean they're not even serviceable backups (of the 32 backup QBs, maybe 10 at best can actually win games coming off the bench).

So if Hurts is a solid back up and potential starter, he's actually a top 40 value. Look at the QBs who go early 2nd rd.

QBs get "overdrafted" for a simple reason, they're the most important player on your team.

Are you seriously not reading your own posts to see the contradictions in them?

Is he a going to be a sideline coach?  Definitely need to make sure a coach can get the job done with a torn achilles if that's the case.

As previously reported.

Exactly. We are a Fing joke. He wouldn't even give us a second interview. Jets are one off-season from passing us by like the rest of the league.

This will be the trend with all the top candidates. No one with any pull or options is going to settle for the structure that they have here. Add in the cap and QB issues, and it’s not a very appealing job.

I bet we weren’t that interested in him, to be honest.

Possibly. But that's a mistake which is par for the damn course nowadays

Well this is trash. Not that I think it matters completely who the next HC is but I'd like someone who is a leader and high energy.

Yup... Sure... mmmm-hmmm, and it would cost $10M to have a quality backup, please list all the $10M/year backups.

A lot of backup QBs are failed starters... and a lot of them are pretty cheap.

But, hey, this team was a rookie backup QB away from competing... oh, wait, they were taking the long view... so we shouldn't have expected them to be ready to compete in 2020... and they had a backup QB for 2020... so why was it so important to draft one in Round 2 in 2020?   For 2023, now?  When he's about to become a free agent?

Long story short, every narrative you built has crumbled when they are all laid side by side.

Who are all these veteran backups?

Dalton struggled to stay on the field when Dak went down.

Fitzpatrick went to Miami to start.

Bills had Barkley, Tenn had Woodside, Indy had Brissett, Steelers had Rudolph, Cleveland had Keenum, Balt had RGIII, KC had Henne. Good thing their starting QBs didn't get hurt.

Saints had Brees, and their $10M backup Hill who went 3-1, TB had Gabbert, Packers had Love, Seattle Geno Smith, Rams had Wolford, only NO needed to use their backup QB.

49ers lost Graropollo, 3-3, his backup Mullens went 2-6 with a 44.4 QBR, Breathard went 1-1 with a 53.4 QBR.

Dalton went 4-5 for the Cowboys with a 54.1 QBR

Basically, most teams don't need a backup QB because the dropoff is such that if the starter is injured, the season is over.

I find it hard to hitch myself to a coaching name.  I was early to the Daboll bandwagon because I had to watch more Bills football this year than I'd have liked.  He did a great job there...on his own.  Sorry Mcdermott.  Even that doesn't mean he'd be a great HC.

As fans, we judge these guys based on the known commodities they studied under and the performance of the offenses (mostly) that they coordinated.  That's pretty weak information, but it's all we've got.

No one would be interested in a retread from the Browns who ducked out of the NFL's largest market and was bizarrely estranged from the brightest coach in the NFL, but that is what produced the best coach in NFL history.

That's not to defend whatever 15th choice HC the Eagles manage to get, just to reinforce that we have no idea which HC's from this year's crop will pan out.

The one thing we can say is that we know who the hot names are.  If they all quickly settle into other cities and Lurie pulls this "he's the one we wanted all along" schtick with someone you've never heard of, then we know no one wants to come here.  We are all going to just have to hope they get lucky.  It has happened before.

How important is backup QB for a team that is going to be rebuilding for the rest of his rookie contract?

Not sure why you didn't include 2020 with Herbert. He looked great even on a bad team. They'll likely improve this offseason and that game will be a problem for us

Should Luck be bold? Had to retire because of health and didn't get a ring

Tannehill may end up being a success with Titans

I don’t think Saleh is the best candidate for the job but I really think the Philly fan base would end up loving him if he were.

So it looks like

Daboll to LA Chargers, Saleh to the Jets and Smith to the Falcons.

That still leaves Joe Brady to the Eagles.

I forget the guy who was on Mike miss from espn but he stated it’s better to be a year too early on jos Brady then be a year too late. Thinks he might have a rough start his first year anyway but as he gets more comfortable he’s going to be a great coach.

Like what other jobs are now available?

And most of the candidates the Eagles interview, they probably have little interest in hiring unless they unexpectedly get blown away.

Exactly who had pull? OCs don't have pull, you can be hot this year and your offense tank next year and never get another interview.

The only guys with pull are experienced HCs with proven track records (or elite college coaches with nice contracts), coordinators just hope to get a chance.

If we take one at 6 I’m guessing fields and Wilson are gone. I’d bet on trey lance. He’s frankly the one i like out of those three he’s just nowhere close to being ready to start especially after only one game this year.

Orlovsky

Btw, I was listening to the Mosher/Caplan podcast, and those guys mentioned 2 inconceivable things that happened with this team that I must have missed.

1. They interviewed Jim Schwartz for Doug's job after 2016. Utterly pathetic.

2. Carson and Doug "didn't speak" for the last month of this season. DIDN'T SPEAK.

I think some of the doomsday stuff around here and in local media is overblown sometimes, but my goodness this organization is a wreck right now.

Hurts got us a key win that cost us a top three pick.

Isn’t that worth a second-round pick for a rebuilding team?

I think there were some rumblings of this at the time.
