Yeah but if you trade hurts then we have to draft another QB in the second round cause of our cap and needing a cheap backup.....

It’s basically why Lombardi said what he did that offseason. Well besides being an idiot

There's a reason Lombardi is a talking head now and unemployed in NFL circles.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I think it also probably speaks it wasn’t as appealing fo a job as people think. To me the eagles by passed Duce according to caplan about the responsibilities he was given compared to what press Taylor had last year. I like Duce but i don’t think he offers any innovation to the offense. I view him as a good CEO and leader. I want someone who’s a leader and innovative or a leader who brings an OC that’s going to be innovative. I don’t see Duce being either of those

I agree and disagree at the same time. Yeah, this job is either last or second to last in terms of appeal. But it's still an NFL job and there are only 32 of em. I think if the other jobs are filled and the guy they like is still out there, he's not turning down this job. You never know when you get a chance to run a team. If that candidate's team has a down year, they might get scratched off the list.

I don't think they would have to "settle" for Duce if a guy they like is still out there.

I like him because he fixed Tannehill, and play-action passes are a cheat code. I’m not going to knock him for that. He’s been great in Tennessee for two years running.

The great unknown with him or anyone else is how are they as leaders? Who are they bringing in as coaches? If he wants to call the plays, how much time can he spend coordinating the offense when he needs to coach the whole team? Will he hire a HC on defense like we did Schwartz?

I would like Terryl Austin or Aaron Glenn, or pluck someone from the Rams or Broncos. Austin could be a HC of the defense. The others probably not so much.

Sorry but Derrick Henry is the cheat code. When teams stop the run the Titans struggle. Not a lot of Derrick Henry’s out there. As for fixing Tannehill it’s noting special. Let The running game dominate then hit the play action pass rinse repeat.

This style is old school and can work but it needs a good defense and Great Oline and RB. We have none of these with no resources either.

Yeah why i added besides being an idiot. I think he heard about the meeting that Jim Schwartz had and that’s why he went on the rant and tangent he did. Besides being a moron.

LaFleur had Henry and the offense wasn’t all that good. In fact, he didn’t use him anywhere near enough. Now LaFleur is off to a great start as a HC.

One of the big knocks I had of our last coaching search was that we didn’t look too much at defensive-minded coaches.

Not because we limited our options (I want an offensive HC), but it was a chance to sit down with the brightest defensive minds and pick their brains. Chatting with Saleh, Bowles, Mayo will give the Eagles a chance to talk strategy, trends, up and coming coaches, etc.

I remember people saying at the time that it’s a waste to interview guys who weren’t serious candidates. I don’t think that could be further from the truth. It’s a golden opportunity.

Too bad they are talking it over with Don Smoleski and Howie Roseman.   Both are very well versed in all things X and O.

He's been contradicting himself all day.   Hurts was a really good pick, because you need to draft a back up QB in the 2nd round... but there's no guarantees with top of the first round QBs.   They weren't rebuilding when they traded away draft picks for Slay... but they were rebuilding when they drafted a bunch of raw athletes in the draft that had no chance of helping out the team in 2020.   Howie likes to hoard draft picks... but can squander them away on Desean, Slay, Avery and Tate... and even use them to trade up in drafts to grab guys like Goedert and Pumphrey.

He is trying to defend the indefensible... aka, Howie Roseman, post-Super Bowl.   And he will do whatever he can, and say whatever he has to and hope that no one catches him in his contradictions.   Howie started to really feel his oats after the Super Bowl.  Every string he pulled had a pot of gold at the end.  Now, every string he pulls has a giant turd at the end.  He went from bringing in low risk, high quality veterans at discount prices in 2017... Long, Smith, Blount, Robinson, Alshon.... to giving out big money contracts to higher risk, lower quality veterans at market prices in 2018 and beyond... Desean, Malik, Alshon's restructure, Graham (high quality individual, but not worth nearly the ~$18M he's due next year, $17M if cut), and the unnecessary extensions to Brooks and Johnson who had their contracts running through 2021.   It's been a different Howie since the Super Bowl... less prudent, less skillful in the art of negotiating and just handing over big money to any one and every one associated with the Super Bowl, which is one thing, but then he extended it to the Jacksons... neither of which lived up to those contracts while here, nor had anything to do with the Super Bowl.

I honestly don’t understand how you guys have the energy for it

Have they interviewed Daboll or Bieniemy?

They can't until they are eliminated now.  The window for them was last week.

I am under the assumption that Duce is hired if all the guys they like aren’t available anymore or turn them down. They interviewed him last time and didn’t give him the job. They then didn’t give him the maximum responsibilities after Doug with the offense. I think if they believe Duce was the best guy for the job he would’ve seen way more responsibility than they gave him compared to press Taylor if we believe what Adam caplan was saying

Depends. Duce might be a good CEO type of HC. That doesn’t mean he’d be a good OC or warranted that kind of responsibility.

Afan is an EMB legend.   To lock horns with the great apologist is an honor.  Frankly, you have to admire him for his ability to come back again and again and try to find ways to spin it such that the absolute dreck and mire that we are stuck in was actually not in any way the fault of the mastermind that is Howie Roseman.

What it really is for me, is a chance to get inside the head of Jeff Lurie.  Honestly, afan has to be his burner account.  There's just no other answer for it.  lol

I think he is a CEO type head coach. I don’t think he’s innovative. Frankly his rotation at running back doesn’t give me all that much confidence he’s that innovative.or his RBs regressing this year in pass protection and catching the ball.

I think if you’re hiring him you’re asking him to be the CEO but you still have to go out and find a innovative offensive coordinator. I don’t think that’s going to be easy. I think you’re better off hiring a head coach that can do both be innovative and a CEO. In hopes of someone like Brady who we don’t know if he’s a great CEO yet but we seen his creativity. I think the problem you run into hiring Duce as a CEO is what happens in two years when your offensive coordinator leaves and you have to replace him. now you’re doing the same thing you had to do with Frank reich and the Eagles haven’t shown that ability to find someone like that consistently.

Personally I much rather my head coach be innovative offensive mind and as he grows with the job as a coach become more CEO like.

Of anyone rumored to be in the mix, Todd Bowles would cause the most apathy. Duce would be second. Anyone else would at least be kinda interesting.

HC candidate tiers

1) Daboll

2) Riley

3) Brady, Smith

4) Moore, Mayo, Kafka

5) Duce

1,037) Bowles

I like Kafka more than most. I wouldn’t be upset with him as others would. I do t think that’s the worse hire. I much rather have daboll or Brady or smith (i don’t see Riley leaving Oklahoma for the eagles). I like him than beinemy as caplan and mosher have said Kafka is Reid’s right hand man and was very hands on in the development of mahomes and i think as a former QB he could help wentz or hurts.

Chipotle for dinner... gonna be on the toilet all night

I really just want to move on from Reid.

That makes no sense. Our offense is much better suited for a running scheme than a passing scheme. Our OL is at its best run blocking and our RB has one of the highest YPC in the league. Our defense has a great DL and if we use our top 2 picks on 2 defensive studs like a CB to go with Slay and a S or LB suddenly this defense is pretty damn good on paper. If the play action pass with a good running will fix Wentz like you said it did for Tannehill then all of a sudden this team isn’t bad at all.

What did you get. I used to like their stuff, but lately I only like barbacoa. The chicken tastes weird to me and the steak isn't nearly tender enough.

Chicken burrito. I think it was the hot sauce

Well, since I said he was picked 1 round early, I suppose we are in agreement.  Round 3 is at the end of Day 2.  Being a flawed, 1 read and run QB to me is not worthy of a 2nd round pick.   And he was quickly shut down in the 2nd half... more tape on him and they likely shut him down sooner.   Again, that's not 2nd Round level stuff.  He could grow and develop, but that remains to be seen, which was my point.  It is not a certainty that he's worthy of a 2nd round pick... 3rd, I can agree to.  But definitely not #53.

Me - half full

You - half empty.
