It pains me to see so many people be so negative, yet ready and waiting to watch what they feel will be the football equivalent to pulling teeth. I don't know what to think about how this team will look next year or the years ahead but to sit and take it knowing you feel there's nothing worth watching and it depresses/angers you weekly? That's narcotic behavior.

It's called hope. Eagles fans have lived through garbage for years on end (not lately) our hope was to see it turn around and be there when it did. But on top of that to be a part of the turn around as a "true fan". I have been rewarded in my lifetime by something I was beginning to think I would never see and part of the reward is the fact that even when things got dark I still hung in there. This will be no different there may be a bad year or even couple of years but the sun will shine again. Until that time you watch and hope.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Welcome to Eagles fandom!!!!  😆

Watching the Eagles this past year was kind of like pulling teeth.  That's a good analogy.  Most of the time, I think the majority of fans will find a way to look on the bright side as we are all hopeful for the future.  The actions of the Eagles the last few years and especially the owner's decisions have made it pretty tough.  Not sure where or how some can even find that optimistic angle, given who we have running football operations along with what this owner has become.  Won't stop hoping that changes, but yeah, it's not fun right now.  And also why I don't really care who they hire as coach... it's not going to matter.

Hope is great cause that's what I have. I don't know they will turn it around but I hope they do. But some just feel we are doomed for the next 3 or 4 years no matter what and I can't say that's hope for the future.

I can't knock how you feel. It's realistic. I'm all for being hopeful. I just want some to look inward and at least detach some emotion away from a game that we aren't even actively participating in. I watch the Eagles because it's fun. Even now when we suck, thinking about how we could turn this around is fun to me. I feel like this is supposed to be entertaining and I know some are getting more depression than entertainment. And it's not just Eagles fans, but fans of sports teams around the world. We just happen to be on this message board so I made it specific but I tell all my friends this.

I think many of just are in dismay about this season.  I see Doug's firing as disappointing and avoidable.  The regression of Wentz would be concerning by itself but the fact that they alienated Wentz by drafting and then starting Hurts feels like they made the problem worse.  I don't think Hurts is a solution at the QB spot.  I don't think Wentz is likely a viable long-term option.  My biggest concern is Lurie being blind to the problem of Roseman as GM. Roseman has done a poor job the last 3 seasons creating the roster and managing contracts.

Maybe I can be optimistic with a new hire or when we get to the draft.  I just am not feeling that way now.

For me the low point of the franchise is the "white helmet" days...I consider the last 20 years or so as prosperity. I think the sense of urgency for winning at least dissipated a little after the Super Bowl win, so I can handle a rebuild. I would very much like to see some outside faces make an appearance in the coaching scheme...things have been far too familiar for far too long. Of course, I  can conveniently skip over the Chip Kelly years.

Not even close. So that answers my original question

Greend what are you talking about? You said Hurts hasn't shown crap. I said he hasn't shown enough to warrant ditching Wentz. We agree. He hasn't shown anything. In what world isn't that close?

The Eagles trends usually show they interview the guys they want most first, not last. That obviously may be different this year with the late start. Maybe Kafka or Daboll are their guys and they are waiting, but their first two guys they talked to are Riley and Brady. Makes me think they might be the guys they like most.

Every coach Lurie has hired has taken the Eagles to the playoffs, most multiple times (Chip missed with a 10-6 record).

Howie build AR's "dream team, " then when it didn't work, had two great drafts that built Chip's  "genius team," then when that fizzled built a SB winning team.

Eagle fans under 40 are just spoiled, those of us who wandered the wilderness of the 1960s and 1970s know how bad it can be, even those who experienced the post-Vermeil years should know better. Six straight seasons missing the playoffs before the Buddy Ryan show came to town, then Kotite.

Eagles are coming off a SB win followed by two more playoff seasons, so if we have to put up with three losing seasons, well, that's life.

All these "outside" GMs, what are the odds that any can build a playoff team, if it was so easy, how come teams like Detroit have made the playoffs 3 times in 21 seasons?

The top GMs don't hit the market, you're hiring either retreads or assistants you hope learned something from their bosses.

Howie has already built two playoff teams, the fact that his attempt to keep the window open failed doesn't mean he's not the right guy for the third rebuild.

Howie built those teams? I thought he was just a consensus builder?

Perhaps we shouldn't live in the past.

Eagles' current cap position sucks.

Eagles' current young talent level sucks.

Eagles' current coaching situation sucks.

Eagles' most current draft performance sucks.

In sum, the Eagles' current GM sucks.

I'm confused on the interviews. I thought the league allowed any coach to be interviewed virtually whether a team is in the playoffs or not. Do teams just not want to use the virtual meeting and have to wait until a team is eliminated?

I suspect the Eagles are too.

They want to have a formal in person interview. A lot of the interview process is getting to know the coach and how they will fit personality wise in the organization. So while they may talk virtual, it's limited in what they can do. That's why they fly in the coaches, take them out to dinner and do the whole song and dance.

If Duce Staley can hire a good staff, I wouldn't hate it. If he can get Jim Caldwell, I'd hire him.

What did you expect to be the result of the last three seasons? They gambled and lost. The 2017 team had almost no talent under 25 due to two bad Chip drafts, and the trade up for Wentz.

We won the SB, isn't that the goal? The goal of cap management is to win, not to win the most cap room contest.

Now the chickens have come home to roost, so we have three lean years after three flush years. I'll take that anytime.

If by 2023, the Eagles aren't positioned to take a step up, then it's time for Howie to go. But he's earned the right for one more shot at rebuilding.

Barf.

I can get behind Duce for HC, players love him, he's one of our own. Gonna need top flight coordinators though.

That is the key for Duce, he'd basically fill the Pederson role without the arrogance that he's an offensive genius.

Question is does he have real administrative skills or will he be Ray Rhodes redux, great at motivation, not so good at coaching.

Rhodes got a veteran team twice to the playoffs, but this is a rebuild, getting players to run through walls is less important than teaching players how to avoid walls.

Still on the Brian Daboll train. Just have to push the Chargers out of the way and get first in line.

I tend to think him going to the chargers is a lock but I’d love to be proven wrong
