I’d add there were players last year supporting Duce becoming the OC. The eagles chose not too.

I want a coach who is a coach and not their BFF. Coach doesn't have to be like Bill, but again, if they sign Duce, who nobody else in the freaking league wants as an OC let alone coach....it is a sign the Eagles are viewed as a dump.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Duce is an almost impossible sell to the fan base.

They know his work; he’s been here forever.  Despite knowing that, they passed him over for HC once.  They also passed him over for OC 3 times, most recently one damn year ago.

So they are now going to say, oh yea, we really missed what Duce was capable of every year for the last 4 years.  But now he’s HC material.

Yep. Nobody even wants him as an OC. He's a way for Lurie to try to save face if this goes like hell cause the rumors are true that he is overreaching.

OC is vastly different than HC

Not sure why people are ready to burn down the city if we dont hire some OC with 1-2 years of decent experience

Well... no teams were hot after Doug, nor after Reich... and we got a Lombardi.  So, lightning can strike despite the disinterest from others.

But, at this point, it seems more like lightning in a bottle than a carefully constructed and executed plan.

Well to be fair, being an head coach is different than being an offensive coordinator (as you know). And perhaps he has grown so much in the last several years to warrant firing Doug so that Duce can be the head coach. To their credit, they have hinted over the years that Duce would be a head coach someday so maybe that someday is here and it’s in Philly.

This whole situation has been a complete debacle so who knows, right?

Duce is the girl at the bar that Lurie knows will sleep with him at the end of the night no matter what.  But he’s going to work the room to see if he can do better first.

Flyers look damn good

Flyers own the Pens over the last period and a half.

That’s what good drafting looks like.

Easily the best run franchise in the city.

John Harbaugh was a ST coach.  How have his teams done?  Ive heard the argument that STs prepares you more for being a HC than being a coordinator

Tomlin had exactly 1 year of experience as a DC before getting the HC gig.  He doesnt coordinate their defense.

McDermott looked like he was headed for a job flipping burgers, now has a dynamic offense that he has almost nothing to do with.  He doesnt coordinate their defense either

There is no end-all, be-all here.  Every situation is unique.

I just want competency, and an organization that doesnt conduct business like a sewing circle.

The Eagles already had one like-able HC who got along with the players and relied on a very good OC to bring along the QB and be the brains behind the scheme.

While that Doug/Reich combo won them a SB, we all saw what happened.  When you have success, that OC leaves for a HC job.

So they should be pretty hesitant to hire any coaches who would require an OC that is primarily responsible for play calling and qb development.  You make progress and they are gone.

McDermott got lucky, really lucky.

Both he and Tomlin are Doug Pederson.  Nice amicable guys who get their players to go hard for them.  Other people play chess for them.

There are times and places for all types of HCs.  That’s probably what fits "best” here anyway, because Lurie and Howie are the ones playing chess and making those calls here, for better or for worse.  They just need a HC to go along with it.

I think he’s shady and good at playing the political game at ESPN.  He forecasted the end of Mike and Mike and pulled the switch; Golic drowned, even though he was the credibility of that show.  Wingo was rightly fired because he seldom showed up to work — there were guest hosts on Golic and Wingo more often than those guys were ever on the show

Greenberg is on the wrong side of almost every stance he ever got excited about.  I can’t say he doesn’t fit in with most of the national sports media on that, though.

I don't think any of that signals dumb. Shady? Possibly. Bad with his sports takes? Eh I've seen him be about as right as others. Don't think those equal up to dumb imo.

As soon as i open my mouth they cough up two...

The Flyers are a right-handed shot defenseman away. They'll make a rental addition at the trade deadline. They miss Niskanen's steadiness.

I think they got extremely lucky on two occasions: Doug and Andy. Rhodes was nothing special, Chip was awful(their backup was Bradley who was also awful), and Doug wasn't even their choice, they wanted Adam Fing Gase and Ben McAdoo, two of the worst coaches you'll ever see. The fact that they considered firing Doug after 2016 tells you how highly they thought of him, and firing him now and blaming everything on him shows that even more.

They've made one amazing hire in Reid, and they've been living off that. Their process is inherently flawed, and I don't think Lurie and Howie have any clue what they're looking for or what they're doing.

I feel like Chip was a bad GM moreso than a bad coach. When he was just coaching things were working. And we can't say his systems aren't in the NFL now (outside of the constant hurry up). We didn't have talent because anyone who wasn't down with his culture had to go. Lost good years from Desean for starters.

Now I do agree they didn't even like the guy who ended up winning the Super Bowl. What else is he supposed to do lol? Esp seeing how Gase and McAdoo flamed out

Given that we are on the verge of a drastic rebuild that will require players to be let go, I'm not sure a player-friendly HC is the way to go.

Please to Philly. Please to Philly.

I am on team ABD. Anyone But Duce.

Are you referring to Duce?

Nothing Ive seen or heard about him indicates he would be a player friendly coach.  Quite the opposite actually.   Lesean Mccoy had extensive quotes about how hard Duce coached him and how he held him accountable.  Miles endorsed Duce too.

Oh, btw, who thinks we'd have 2nd highest pass/run ratio in the league with Duce?  Anyone??  Anyone think he'd get obsessed with horrible passing plays when we could easily win the game handing it off 30 times?
