I’m not saying there is no truth to the McLane story, but if Wentz was acting like that much of a D would Kelce and other players put their neck on the line for him like they did?

Couldn’t say for sure. Even if he’s resistant to coaching, overall he would seem to be a good dude.

But piecing together the original Philly Voice report, this report, the other reports that Wentz didn’t like working with Flip despite his career year, and the report that Pederson was ready to move forward with Hurts... it doesn’t paint a great picture for Wentz.

There is way too much smoke here, and it sucks. I want it to work with Wentz.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Not all audibles are the same. When things were going well maybe most of his audibles were the correct choice based on the look. In McLane’s story, it sounds like at least some or perhaps a lot of the audibles of late went away from plays that were called correctly to heat the defense.

We won’t get Wentz’s view on this so it’ll almost always be skewed against him. But these whispers have been out there for quite some time.

Yeah I just don't understand how it can go from so great to so bad suddenly.

Not only this, but the piece also said he's allegedly responsible for some drafting.

Ah yes, Wentz was the one banging the table for JJAW, Pumphrey, Hurts and Taylor.

All makes sense now.

He did work out with some receivers pre-draft. Mack Hollins was one.

"There was a disconnect even before Wentz was benched, though. Pederson would call a play only for his quarterback to occasionally kill it for no other reason than his personal distaste, sources said. It became "a pissing match” between the two, another source said.”

And...

"He doesn’t understand that he lost games for us,” a veteran player said. "He will never admit that and that’s a problem because he can’t get it corrected.”

And...

In the quarterback room, when his errors were pointed out, Wentz would sometimes make irrelevant excuses and Taylor wouldn’t correct him. For instance, there would be a play when he didn’t throw to an open receiver. The read was drawn up as designed, the coverage played out as expected, and he would be asked why he didn’t pull the trigger.

And Wentz would say the look wasn’t there, or he would overemphasize the pass rush, and when it was suggested the play be run again in practice as to get it right, he would object.

Success can be a **** to manage. Everyone thinks its because of them...all the way up to the gm and owner

So do you truly believe that Carson Wentz is responsible for how our drafts go?

Wasnt Kupp another?

i admit i wanted no part of Kupp

If Doug Pederson goes from HC to OC...then he's not a good head coach.

That's not only my opinion, it's also what the league thinks.

Meh...

When things are going bad,  Wentz's audibles at the line "lost games for us".

When things are going great,  his audibles at the line made him an MVP candidate with a great QB rating on 3rd downs,  against the blitz, abs in the red zone.

Is there really a problem with his calls at the line? It always looked like overall team execution to me.

Leading is easy when you are winning. Same thing i said about Doug

No, but I don’t think McLane is suggesting that either.

I honestly think Doug prefers being an OC vs a HC. I get the vibe he doesn’t enjoy many of the complications being a HC presents. He seems content calling plays and leaving the rest of the responsibilities to others.

As an Eagles' fan, Ive always had two dreams...

Win the Super Bowl, and a dramaless offseason.

Frankly, I always thought the dramaless offseason would be more likely.  What a fool I am.

I have to admit that if the play was designed for Arcega-Whiteside, then I would change it too.

Nice tweak to the play design by Doug, making JJAW inactive on game days. Brilliant coaching!

I gathered that. He also released a piece on how exactly Wentz has been involved and it's a bunch of hogwash.

IE Easton Stick and JJaw worked out together. Easton must've told Wentz what a stud JJaw was. Wentz made Howie draft JJaw!

Now I'm sure Wentz (and others) have lobbied for players. Not sure it has anywhere near the pull as implicated.

Maybe the Greg Ward screens were audibles by Wentz as a protest for the crap he's had to work with at WR.

This whole thing is broken.  Head down.  Lurie wont fix it, because Lurie has at least allowed, and at most contributed to it.

More from the article:

Roseman, owner Jeffrey Lurie, and other Eagles leaders, however, treated Wentz as if he had won that championship. They allowed him too much say in the draft, free agency, and coaching decisions. And while he played a large role in getting to the title game, and to the postseason the next two years, he has only six playoff snaps in five years to his name.

Wentz’s Type-A personality could be credited just as much for his past success. Many top quarterbacks share the same trait. But the 28-year-old had increasingly rebuffed advice, defied criticism, and clashed with former coach Doug Pederson last season, Eagles sources said.

"Every great quarterback wants to be coached and they want to be coached hard and by the best, and it doesn’t seem like [Wentz] wants that,” one source said. "It’s kind of like whoever’s coaching him is working for him. But it can’t be that way.”

Wentz alone also factored into Pederson’s exit, despite Lurie’s claim otherwise. The Eagles essentially remained "married” to the quarterback, as Roseman had put it at the time of the

"Everyone believed Carson had no clue about when to get the ball out on time,” a source said, "and as a result made his [O-line] look terrible in times they were playing fine.”

"If you look at the film, anybody out there would be hard pressed to say, ‘OK, I’m going to bring him in as my starter,’” an NFL source who works with quarterbacks said.

Reich and the Colts could have interest with Philip Rivers a pending free agent and near 40. But it would take a leap of faith and significant cost.

"I’m not sure Frank would take him,” a source familiar with Reich’s thinking said.

There's just too much smoke for there not to be fire. I feel like there's been talk of Wentz being stubborn and resistant to coaching since he was drafted and before. Every year it seems like we get more and more reports about this. If it's all true, and I'm inclined to believe at least some of it is, then I'd rather they just jettison him. One of the first things players mentioned about Hurts was leadership. Maybe those comments about Hurts were also to contrast Wentz.

I'm all for trying to fix Wentz, but as the saying goes you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves.

Wentz didn't respect Doug, so he didn't take to coaching.

Need to find a HC that Wentz respects or trade him.

If true how can you bring Wentz back. You really can't

I think McLane is comparable to a gossip writer for TMZ so I take everything he said with a huge grain of salt. That being said, if half of that crap about Wentz is true and their solution to get things right is Mike Friggin Kafka, good god.......
