I suspect this Schwartz hiatus has been in the works for a while and that is why he brought in Burke last year to have a chance as his heir apparent. Not sold on the idea but Manuel was pretty bad at Atlanta in that role so I hope if either, it is Burke. Just because Burke is a protégé of Jim doesn’t mean he is 100% in his wake. He may actually believe in blitzes and stunts.

Now I just wonder if he had actually studied the game would he be in the HoF Wasn't Bennett pretty good when he was here too? Or maybe I'm remembering wrong There were a lot of people that were turned off by Vick. I always found it somewhat hypocrtical. I am not defending Vick but I think people lacked perspective on Vick's upbringing and likely relationship with dogs. They view the idea of dogs with a moral absolutism that just isn't present in some parts of the US. I mean many of these same people eat meat without a second thought as to the moral relativity of eating meat. I mean eating a steak carries a life sentence in some parts of India. Eating dogs is legal in most asian countries and I think Switzerland. I mean there is an inherent cruelty to starving animals but cruelty to an animal is relative to culture. Vick was raised in a culture where the cruel treatment of dogs was accepted.

January 4, 20214 yr In terms of credibility as a player and human, Ryans would be an interesting hire. For him, it will be about the schematic side, but the leadership he would bring... As for the draft stuff. Kind of need to know what will happen to the roster before getting too deep into it. Devonta Smith sounds good on a superficial level, but we don't know what Howard will do to save his skin and get the rebuild on. If they keep Desean, really no point in going too high at WR. Those press conferences from Roseman and Pederson were proper naughty school boy ones. Some of the media questions were good, but they left a few bits on the table. It was dying for a contract extension question to be asked. As for the Matt Leo signing; I can't help but wonder if he is a good mentor/buddy to Mailata. Some football clubs over here often sign 2 players from countries in South America, etc. One is the good player, the other is less so, but is a good egg and there to help with living far away from home.

January 4, 20214 yr Whether its Wentz or Hurts, just fixing the OL and getting the WRs a year of coaching and weight room work will make a big difference next season. I think the key isn't Howie, but Lurie making it clear that it's time to rebuild, so Howie or the next GM can shed contracts, veterans, trade for more picks, etc. It's usually the owner who is the last to accept a rebuild, we saw that with Snider, b/c it means taking crap for a few years and often losing money (more in other sports as the Linc will still be packed next fall, vaccine permitting). Lurie got a sugar rush with Chip, followed by a crash, so it's understandable that he's not excited about hiring the "next hot coach." The good news is there's enough talent here to be competitive while rebuilding, you don't need to add a bunch of talent to the offense. All you need from Brooks and Lane is to hold up long enough to develop Dillard, Herbig, Driscoll, maybe Juriga or Prince, and a mid-round draft pick or two. Adding a WR like Smith would help, but really any solid WR would give you a deep group with upside, same at TE where a 3rd to 5th rd pick could complement Goedert and JJAW (and maybe Butler/Wilson). Which means the offense should at least be middle of the pack, better if they add a mid-round power runner to go with Sanders and Scott. That would allow a DC to play an aggressive scheme with a bunch of young athletes learning on the job - win some, lose some, but at least it'll be more entertaining than a bend but don't break with CBs playing 10 yards off WRs and safeties who play deep b/c they lack speed. I'd be happy with 7-9 next year with a young hungry team with upside - and a lot fewer games lost to injury!

Assuming he brings something similar to what Saleh does it would be a 4-3. They value the D-line and DT, and mix in some wide 9 similar to what Schwartz does. They were a primary zone coverage team but have moved to mix in more man.

January 4, 20214 yr I don't think the Eagles would hire an up-and-comer for DC, at least not right now. They want someone who can take care of the defense and allow Doug to put 100% of his focus on getting the offense back on some kind of track. I'm thinking it'll be an established candidate. I wouldn't rule out Matt Burke.

It's just that I can also see how Vick would have committed those crimes and not be an irredeemable person. People should be willing to give him a chance to redeem his past.

Ertz and the rest of the Oline were playing matador with Chase Young and he could have totally wrecked Sudfield a number of times. Instead, he just kind of knocked him down. Certainly appeared like he knew that he wasn't' being blocked and didn't use it as an opportunity to blast another player. The opposite of players like Clowney, Suh, Harrison and to some degree our very own Barnett. Young looks like a true superstar, talent and leadership-wise, in the making. Very unhappy that he is on the WFT. I believe the video that surfaced was a play that everyone expected him to spike the ball... and then he threw a deep pass. Meanwhile, Chase Young is absolutely a stud and its going to suck having him opposite the Eagles for the next decade.

January 4, 20214 yr Watching those interviews today. It was hard to watch Ertz with all of that emotion. BG was BG. The Hurts interview was hard to decipher. His communication style is really different, but the media kept steering and steering and steering him towards the answers they wanted. He sure seems like a polite, respectful young man.
