Stoutland was the running game coordinator, so take that with a grain of salt.

That is the part that may be reason of coaching mistake.  OL obviously has a role in the run game.  Though the RB coach is not the point man for the running game, but he is the assistant HC.  This past season, there was no OC, but many offensive game advisors.  All these ideas but no coordination.  IMHO, that has to be one of the reasons the season went this way and Doug got fired.  Can't say Doug should not bear the responsibility of this confusing staff structure.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Wonder how McDaniels would work with Wentz.

They will say the right things prior to the start of training camp.

He's been disrespected.  Respect is earned apparently.

I really think it has more to do with the crazy guy they have in the FO, Easterby.  This story in SI covers it.  https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/01/16/texans-chaos-deshaun-watson-unhappy-how-jack-easterby-kept-his-job

I mean this is the part that's interesting:

Easterby delivered a speech that was described in multiple direct accounts as a lengthy missive intended to be rousing. The discourse centered almost entirely on Deshaun Watson, the Texans’ star quarterback at the end of a historically great—if wasted—season. Easterby, those sources said, was effusive in his praise for the quarterback, but to the dismay of many, he did not extend the same attention to: J.J. Watt, the team leader and greatest player in franchise history, who was on the verge of completing only his second healthy season in the past five years; the turmoil that engulfed the organization; the midseason firing of coach Bill O’Brien; or the future of a franchise seeking new leadership.

I think he just heard him and saw the things he has been doing and said this guy is crazy and needs to go.  I mean look at him:

easterby_biocard

Would you want that guy to be in charge of football decisions.  I mean here's a story about him relating to players:

"During one Saturday-night meeting in 2019, Easterby, who is white and cites Martin Luther King Jr. as a role model, asked players to think back to when they were growing up 'playing ball with Ray-Ray and Ki-Ki and them,' according to three people in the room for these meetings. Some saw the language as more of a misguided attempt to fit in—players often called Easterby a 'try-hard.'  https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2921872-report-texans-player-was-bothered-by-jack-easterbys-use-of-black-stereotypes

I mean he was a "character coach." What kind of BS job is that and how does that help you run a football team.  He's an acting GM.  He played on a division 3 golf team in college.  I mean he's a joke.  Who would want to stay in an organization where he is still employed let alone the GM.

Give Doug some credit.  He was calling the plays after all.  He did much better with the runs.

He reminds me of Pierre McGuire punchable face factor of at least a 9

And this is the best picture they could get of him.

I can say that.   This was forced on him when he was forced to fire his OC and WR coach.   He didn't want this structure.

Yep.  They have a pill for that.

Give him one of yours 🙂

I'm not taking the credit from Doug, just saying that it wasn't all him.

No he didn’t. Thing is Doug was a nice guy, can’t wait to see how things work with an egomaniac McDaniels a Weasel power hungry Howie and a meddling owner in Lurie

No question about that but I think it was at least some Doug.

Yeah just saw that on twitter. I think it’s a smart move by him. With such a heavy WR draft he was looking like WR5 or 6 and a late first/early 2nd guy. Now has a chance to come back and be a top WR in next years draft

Playing the Devonta Smith card.

I don't know.  He would probably be a 2nd round pick this year.  If he has a great season, he could believe he moves up into the 1st round.  That's millions of dollars for one more season of college football.  I don't think that's a bad financial decision.  It's just a riskier one.

My first thought also. Working wonders for Devonta Smith right now. For a guy that was in same range as Olave, to now being a very realistic option to be drafted at #3, or hot take: #2 even.

not saying Olave will have same results, but this sums it up well

Texans vs. eagles for the dulcolax toilet bowl

So did Josh stop by the same establishment that Kraft took him to while they visited Florida? Did Lurie chip in and get them a couples rate?

McDaniels in Denver:

traded Cutler for 1 1st rd picks and a 3rd, and got Orton, who did nothing in Chicago, to play at a very similar level to Culter under Shanahan.

traded Marshall for two 2nd rd picks, got Lloyd to play at a similar level after underachieving his whole career, got a career year out of Jabar Gaffney as well.

Tells me he knows how to coach offense, while NE makes it impossible to separate out the Brady effect, in Denver he turned sow's ears into silk purses.

Now at 32 coming out of NE he probably thought he knew everything, and needlessly alienated people, but the fact the Belichick wanted him backs tells you he can coach.

Question is at 42 has he learned his lesson in dealing with people - the rift with Brady tells you nothing, for one thing there was probably mutual fatigue, for another, Brady probably doesn't want to be coached by anyone at this point in his career, good or bad.

He got a couple solid seasons out of Orton, about the same as Shanahan got out of Cutler.
2007:  Cutler - 63.6%  20-14 Y/A 7.5 Rating 88.1 QBR 64.3
2008:  Cutler - 62.3%  25-18  Y/A 7.3 Rating 86.0 QBR 61.9
2009:  Orton - 62.1%  21-12  Y/A 7.0 Rating 86.8 QBR 56.9
2010:  Orton - 58.8%  20-9  Y/A 7.3  Rating 87.5 QBR 53.8, replaced Marshall with Brandon Lloyd and turned him into an all pro WR. And he salvaged Jabar Gaffney's career as well.
Orton did nothing in Chicago or after McDaniels left Denver.

So forget NE, what he was able to do with a mediocre QB and two underachieving WRs is impressive.

There's a risk.  And if he gets hurt, it all goes up in smoke.    He is also potentially giving up a year's earnings.  Will he make that up on the front end as a result of moving up in the draft?   Maybe, he's certainly betting so.  But, it is a risk.

Speaking of Devonte Smith did anyone else see this?

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.si.com/college/alabama/.amp/bamacentral/devonta-smith-dislocated-finger-details-revealed-blackwell

If already posted I apologize but apparently his dislocated finger was so bad he needed surgery to fix it which is pretty rare for a dislocated finger to need a surgery. Just something to look out for
