Which goes back to my initial point where afan talks about Roseman saying he needs to rebuild in 2019. And then he didn’t do it.  What Roseman says and what Roseman does are two different things. his excuse about why he didn’t follow through with it is a bunch of BS that he feeds the fans because he knows people like afan is going to buy into the BS that he just didn’t want to do a full rebuild and misjudge the team

Those were obviously not rebuilding move. However the 10 draft picks you could make the argument was supposedly helping with the rebuild. Which kind of goes into what I’m saying is that they still believe they can be competitive hence making those moves while also rebuilding by accumulating 19 draft picks and infusing young talent.

I don't think he misjudged the team as much as he misjudged the armageddon level of injuries they would have. I don't think Doug was fired completely over the performance - I think Lurie and Howie were unhappy with the offense coach by committee approach and totally dissatisfied with Doug's plan to (promote Press Taylor?) fix it.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Well he said he could get a few wrong - so there's still a chance.

Don’t disagree with you on doug‘s plan and being unhappy with it. i don’t even think it was the performance as much as it was his ideas to fix it.

however I still think he missed judged it. I think he saw the end of 2019 and believe well if wentz plays like that and we get everyone back and add some pieces we will be good. He didn’t account for the fact they played 4 of the 5 worse teams in the nfl which made them look much better than what they were at the end of 2019.

this team before the injuries was eight and imo max nine win ceiling team and thats if wentz was 2019 wentz. Even if they had everyone healthy they were not good enough. The fact that you were relying on guys like Andre Dillard who was unproven at LT before his injury. Desean Jackson to stay healthy. Three rookie wide receivers playing significant snaps and their first who it was said when he was drafted was not as polished. JJAW who was a bust last year and had no offseason activities due to covid. Jalen mills who hadn’t played safety his entire NFL career but a couple of snaps. Their linebackers were atrocious even without injuries. Their depth at CB sucked. They had a bunch of slot corners besides slay. To the point they had a start Maddox who stinks as their outside corner and he’s not even outside corner. I could continue on with the amount of questions they had. Yes they had injuries that did not help. But even if they didn’t have those injuries they are still likely not good enough to compete for anything but a crappy NFC East. Which isn’t an accomplishment with how awful it is

also when you rely on older players because you’re not drafting well enough you tend to have more injuries. That goes along with players as they get older begin to break down especially when they have a bunch of wear and tear on them from previous seasons. Lane, Brooks, mcleod, malik Jackson, desean, alshon are all older players who have a bunch of miles on them and got hurt and missed time. If you’re relying on them to play all the games then you misjudged your roster. Dillard unexpected. He was also unproven. Goedert always misses games due to his style of play so again another player if you just assume he plays all 16 games that’s on you. And it’s looking like that with sanders as well.

All these interviews, I'm surprised someone hasn't ripped Lurie for having a low percentage of them being minority.

I'm sure it's going to be coming

It's all about how you get there and less about how many wins you have in the process.

Random example: the Bears that the Eagles beat in the playoffs in 2000 and in 2018...IMO...both teams enjoying quick turnaround success with high win totals, neither with a particularly appealing talent base moving forward.

If you have a young OL, young weapons that seem uncoverable and generate separation, and a young QB that looks like an elite passer....paired with a crap defense...and a team that discovered itself late in year 2 and never even makes it to .500...that's just fine for me in year 2.  If you've got that elite offense, it takes one offseason to turn a crap defense into an average one, which is all you need to compete for a championship.

Building the elite offense takes more time.  2-3 years at best, possibly more.

If the Eagles are venturing down that path, I don't need to put a limit on the timeline.  The problem is that we are 0/3...lack the OL, lack the QB, lack the weapons.  So as far as I'm concerned, that 3 year timeline hasn't even started yet.  We need to find all 3.

Yeah I agree with your premise, I figure if you have the pieces on offense you’re going to be a playoff team by year 3 though.

Wentz or Hurts may or not be the answer. That’s going to go a long way into determining our timeline.

BREAKING: The #Eagles have hired J.T. Realmuto to be their next Head Coach, stealing him away from under the #Phillies' nose.

Howie says it’s who they wanted all along.

He can also play wide receiver. He knows how to catch...

There’s more to the tweet but I shortened it. At this point he’s gotta be just as qualified as most of these guys.

Oh good so it is on howie. Thankfully not BWF theory.

What's happening here is,  and I'm a Howie supporter still to this day,  Howie is fine with McDaniels being "in control". Howie will surely still have significant input. But it's another guy to blame if there is poor drafting. Because all decisions will be influenced by McDaniels, or maybe McDaniels even gets final say.

How about this for the first two days of the draft?

R1 P6 WR DeVonta Smith - Alabama
R2 P5 RB Travis Etienne - Clemson
R3 P6 C Josh Myers - Ohio State

Wouldn’t be surprising. Chris carter said it best always have a fall guy.

And I think Lurie either trusts Howie to finally have all the control,  or just wants him to so Lurie can finally judge him clearly with no one else in the way, once and for all.  Which is the part about Howie having to talk him in to McDaniels.

Apparently if McDaniels isn't to blame in NE for their offense being terrible than neither is Doug to blame for the Eagles.  It's the bad QB play not the coaches.

Doug was the HC, he called 55 passes to 9 runs, with an oline in shambles, and wrs consisting of Reagor, Ward, Jjaw, and some back up TE, when he had sanders playing.

nah Doug was a major problem.

I’m pretty sure he was being sarcastic because people just excusing mcdaniels because he had the QBs he did elsewhere from New England

starting my list of mid round prospects i like:

Memphis RB Gainwell

UNC TE Angeline

UNC LB Surratt (think he goes earlier than we can take him to a 3-4 defense)

Cincy S Wiggins

McDaniel after Denver knows no one will ever give him personnel control. Can't live Tebow down!

He probably just wants to rehabilitate his reputation as a HC, not make a power grab.

Crap I’m competing against you. I hope you don’t take some of the blog staff i assembled.

Eagles aren't built for a quick turnaround.

QB - ???

OL yes, Dillard, Mailata, Seumalo, Driscoll, Herbig, add a couple OL and you could have a top unit for an extended period.

WR, lots of youth and speed, but need more quality

DL - age

LB - youth, need a blue chipper

CB - need a total rebuild

Call me crazy...upon further review, Mcdaniels has leapfrogged Daboll as my favorite HC candidate for the Eagles.  You read that correctly.

You know that stupid song: "I like you cuz your broken, broken like me."  That is the Eagles and Mcdaniels right there, a match made in heaven.  Mcdaniels is a formerly coveted HC candidate without options, the Eagles are a franchise fallen on hard times without options.

Say what you want about Mcdaniels; but you can't say that he's stupid and you can't say that he lacks a plan.  For all the failure of Belichick's coaching tree, Mcdaniels might be his all-time most trusted and valued assistant.  He either helped out, or at least learned from the development of one of the greatest QB's of all time.  And, perhaps most importantly, he has been humbled and reshaped by HC failure already...and will not have to do so at our expense.  That's an awfully similar background to AR and Belichick prior to KC and NE.  Both were always smart football guys, but needed to reinvent themselves and adapt after their failures in Philly and Cleveland.

I'm not saying he'll succeed.  Statistically, he probably won't.  I just think he actually checks the boxes better than anyone else does.
