That's what was weird about it.  You can tell Merrill and Mike are forcing it they never sound natural.  JJ just fluidly snuck it in there...I don't like that one bit, like it's a natural part of the conversation.

Duce seems like a nice guy who will instantly have the respect of the players.  But what experience does he have with designing a scheme, mentoring a QB, making real-time matchup adjustments across the offense, or calling plays?

It may be so easy to say, "Well, let's just hire a kick-ass OC for that."  Then what the heck is Duce for?  And what happens when that kick-ass OC leaves in 1-2 years for a HC job?  Wentz has already proven that he can't hang on what he learned from his mentors when they leave.

How is it a mess? Pederson was a mess, his idea of an OC was Press Taylor.

Groh is back at WR coach and Taylor is in limbo. Has either been mentioned as a potential OC anywhere?

They fired Doug, in part, to protect Wentz.  They won 4 games this year.  Texting the owner to campaign for a HC who was already on the staff?  You should be hopeful you have a job in 2021, not worried about backing one particular HC candidate.  These players are all overpaid, sit out weeks at a time for soft tissue injuries...I value the opinion of the biggest troll on this blog more for the next HC than I do for any player on the team.

I sincerely hope that Lurie is not dumb enough or, more importantly, soft enough to allow a talentless foundation of losers to dictate the next HC because of someone they feel comfortable with.

Man, that is pretty harsh.

This is bugging the heck out of me with Joe Brady and Sirianni as well, though.

I’ve seen tweets on here saying Brady had "an all-star list” for a coaching staff, and Sirianni an impressive list — but no names even speculated on.

The timing of replacing Reich is what really screwed a great deal up.  Reich was gone after all the other coaches had played the shuffle game.  There wasn't really time, and other teams had already set their coaching staffs and were going to block interviews with the Eagles.  Not much left to do.  Taylor was the assistant QB coach, so he was elevated.  Groh moved from WR to QB coach after DeFilippo left.  And then was elevated to OC... and WR coach was filled in by Brewer from the college ranks.

 

So, when it is suggested that McDaniels really screwed this team, he did.  
OC - Reich
QB - Groh
Ass't QB - Taylor
WR - Brewer

became...
OC - Groh
QB - Taylor
WR - Brewer

Groh wasn't ready, neither was Taylor, but there wasn't much time to do anything else.

It applies to them too. It’s more than likely 100% agent talk. 

Do you know what they call position coaches on 4-11-1 teams whose HC got fired?  Either interim HC or unemployed.  I think Duce would be so happy to go from RB coach to HC after a 4 win season that he just might let Lowie radio in the play-calls on the sly.

Maybe that's what they meant about a great staff.

At this point hire Duce and let him make Doug OC

Exactly. How are none of the staff they’re going to assemble get some sort of leak. And we have a bunch of different stuff with Josh McDaniels get leaked.

Rob maaddi (works for the AP)actually made a good point on 973 today. He says based off what he’s heard mcdaniels was in the lead but not overwhelming. Says he believes based off what he was told the eagles are waiting for a candidate to blow them away like reid did in his interview back when they hired him. 

Should interview Mike Nolan just to F with the Cowboys.  Get their 2020 OC, DC, and ST coach all in NovaCare to spew a little info.

Idk listening to maaddi talk today, John Clark and Caplan/mosher he’s a top candidate. If he’s the very top unknown. But he’s definitely according to them a guy with Bowles they really like.

How so?  Players can't express who they feel would be a good coach?  Furthermore, it's Lurie who has given them his number and invited them to express their opinions, concerns, gratitude, etc.  What if it is Kelce texting Lurie expressing it?  OK then or just a talentless hack flapping his lips?
