Like I said, the players know enough to be dangerous.  I value their opinion very, very little in this process.  I'd rather a random TATER select the next HC than a random player.

Man, what a ridiculous statement.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

See, this is the crap that Howie is so good at.  He should have taught the players a thing or two here.

Office politics hint...if your boss just got axed, you are obviously going to have strong opinions on who the next one should be.  They will, naturally, be highly clouded and biased by your own self-interests and likely have nothing to do with the benefit of your team/department/company.  Feel free to campaign for the guy/girl you want.  But do so very quietly.

Because when the new sheriff comes into town and finds out you were lobbying hard for someone else, well, watch out.

HC Al Pacino as Tony D’Amato

DC Denzel Washington as Herman Boone

OC Billy Bob Thornton as Gary Gaines

ST/Analytics Dustin Hoffman as Raymond Babbitt

Probably could have the Lance kid from varsity blues. Did a hell of a job taking over at halftime for a HS coaching legend. And knows how to relate to the younger kids. Also don’t forget Rick moranis as an offensive assistant. Also wouldn’t be against Adam Sandler as a QB coach. Hell of a job as QB and coach in the longest yard.

What makes you think the players don't already understand this dynamic?

1. I've met enough NFL players to realize they don't do a whole lot of dynamic understanding.

2. The fact that they are leaking it is pretty much proof positive that they don't.

But it's not about understanding that dynamic.  It's human nature.  Everyone, at every level of employment, takes into account their own myopic self interests over the organization as a whole when deciding who their superior should be.  They have a narrow one-sided perspective, by design.

Most of them are in their 20s. They have no clue. None.

I don’t agree with this part. Unless you hire a petty, insecure person they won’t care.

Untrue.  If Kelce wants to return he is guaranteed to be here unless injured.  Same for Cox.  Are you accusing the players of leaking their texts?

The fact that Kelce has been contemplating retirement the last few years means he isn't guaranteed to be here week 1.  He might retire.   If he made a statement and said I'm 100% playing next year, then he would be guaranteed to be here week 1.  Until then every player is up in the air.  Cox could very well be traded.  Did I accuse anyone? I simply stated that the information was leaked....and if it was a player that leaked their text so be it.

Some care, some don't.  It happens all the time, certainly in the real world outside the NFL.  But it's just not a great political survival move to publicly throw yourself behind one candidate.

No one is perfect.  If you had 10 people working for you and 5 of them fought hard for you to be there and 5 fought hard for someone else, you'd know the difference.

I will say this because I am inside knowledge of what happened at the university of Arizona when they let the players dictate who they wanted as coach. You are the owner and you are the general manager you can listen to their input but you shouldn’t let it dictate who you want to get as your coach. You’re in the interview room and you’re talking to all these guys so you know every answer to every question you wanna ask. And you can see how they respond and how you feel towards them.

so The University of Arizona was going to get the Navy coach. However they allowed Khalil Tate (at that time they thought he could be a heisman candidate) and some players say they were going to leave cause he was going to use the triple option (he actually wasn’t cause his OC he was bringing with him run a spread). They literally had a deal in place with the Navy coach and backed out because of that and then wound up hiring Kevin sumlin because the players wanted that coach. three years later it turns out he is an alcoholic and the last year of his job he was just cashing paychecks. Moral is don’t let players dictate who to hire. Can listen to them but don’t let them run the asylum.

There is only one Longest Yard... and that ain't it.

Burt was in both. The originally was definitely better. However at burt passed away so he don’t have a shot at him. Also Paul walker passed away so i guess lance is off the list.

They’re supporting Duce because they know him and he’s their buddy. So yes, I agree with you in the sense that the players’ opinion means very little, but I have a hard time seeing a true grown up head coach coming in and being ticked off at Brandon Graham and miles sanders because they wanted their well-liked colleague to get a chance.

By the time this coaching search gets done

Listen but don’t dictate, exactly.

3rd graders may have some valuable insight into what teachers connect with them and which don’t.  But if you let them dictate, your teacher is going to be some furry who watches sponge Bob with them all day.

A department of astrophysicists will only want to answer to the smartest and best of their group, but they might throw someone out there so far out on the spectrum who doesn’t understand the real world considerations of running a department.

There is a reason employees don’t pick their boss.

You saw my list, didn't you?   Don't be so close minded.  Some of the greatest coaches ever to live are dead.  Gotta interview them all.

In my field...and I’m not nearly as old as the blog thinks I am...I’ve seen more careers go sideways than I can count because of this.

A HC who knows a key, powerful vet wanted someone else?  Hell yes he might want him off the team sooner rather than later.

Joe Gibbs... frankly, might actually be the greatest HC in the history of the modern era of the NFL.  3 Super Bowls in a span of about 10 years, with 3 different QBs, 3 different styles of play.   Just an amazing feat, and one that likely will never be matched again.

Pretty good at NASCAR too

I love Duce and I have had him in my top three to become the next head coach all along. However, with the report coming out that players are texting Lurie to give him a job my stance has changed. The last thing this team needs after Doug is another players coach who is going to be friends with the players. Doug play calling was terrible this year and he seemed to be overwhelmed in general. What doesn't get talked about enough in his demise is how he didn't seem to coach the players hard enough or hold his assistants accountable. Maybe Duce could be that rare players coach who do that as well but it's a major concern. McDaniels being the **** that he is might just be exactly what that locker room needs, and certainly Wentz if he is going to be here.

Perhaps in your field but I couldn’t see that happening in this situation with pro football coaches and players. Maybe but if this would bother a coach, I couldn’t see him lasting long.

How hard can that be though?  Left turn, left turn...  where's the innovation and a right turn just once in a while?

Can i say something? I just don’t get the enjoyment out of watching nascar. I’ve tried and i much rather watch curling or cornhole championship

As a side note I’d love to bring back American gladiators.

don't worry , lurie called these guys in for the coach search
