Fire up the Wentz trade rumor mill

The economic cost of a trade makes it seem virtually impossible to me, but that won’t stop the rumor mongers in the sports press.  Pre June 1 hit is $33 million.  Forget post June 1 because of the Jeffery and Jackson restructures.  Colts don’t have the draft capital to trade up to the sixth pick either.  I just don’t see the Eagles dropping to 21st.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The Wentz to Indy rumor mill is going to go into hyperdrive.

Prime Philip Rivers was so fun to watch. Shame he was wasted in SD.

Totally overrated IMO. A good Qb but never top tier. Makes HOF on longevity. Rarely won or played in big games.
Captain check down his last 7-8 years.

Its failure of thought process

you dont get out of the wilderness with the same thinking that got you lost there in the first place

that's not necessarily true - you can only walk into the woods half way before you start walking out. Ok - i'm just spitballing here - that made sense when I thought it.

May have been Doug's biggest problem here. He just may have been burned out. From what I can tell Doug is a good guy but sometimes when you're in a job where you are over your head you tend to get burned out and just not give a crap anymore.

If he burned out in his fifth year as a HC, he really probably shouldn’t be a HC in the NFL.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Rivers was a much better QB, and leader, than Eli Manning.

Duce seems like a nice guy who will instantly have the respect of the players.  But what experience does he have with designing a scheme, mentoring a QB, making real-time matchup adjustments across the offense, or calling plays?

It may be so easy to say, "Well, let's just hire a kick-ass OC for that."  Then what the heck is Duce for?  And what happens when that kick-ass OC leaves in 1-2 years for a HC job?  Wentz has already proven that he can't hang on what he learned from his mentors when they leave.

What experience did John Harbaugh have? Harbaugh couldn't even get an interview because teams had reservations about promoting a ST coach to HC. So the Eagles moved Harbaugh to DB coach for a year. HC is actually a management position -

All this talk about "Duce would put together a tremendous staff” without a single name being given is hilarious and a dead give away his staff sucks

Why would you leak who his staff would be? So other teams could hire your potential guys while your still mulling over the HC decision? Come on man -

Yea, it was such a big secret that Saleh was going to take LaFleur with him. Good thing he kept that one airtight, otherwise someone would steal him.

No HC's are out there and are going to be taken aback by who Duce would want as his staff and swoop in and take them like its some big secret.

Mine was 15 but I did get a cheesesteak

If Eagles fans had it their way Duce would be head coach, Ray Didinger would be GM, and Dawkins would be president of football operations. And the Eagles would run the ball 60 times per game.

Every social media poll I’ve seen wants Duce.... even though it would essentially be telling us all that the organization is fine, even after only winning 4 games in the worst division ever, so just promoting the next guy is totally fine. Also it would essentially give even more power to Howie over the organization. If you hate Howie and want Duce, realize Howie is gonna have even more say over the coaching staff.

I love Duce, but what hiring him would suggest is annoying. I want fresh eyes on this organization and roster. It’s badly needed.

And I know the players love him, but how many of them will even be here in a year or two?

well who knows what kind of crap he had to put up with during those 5 years.

He trolls all the time!!!!  Anytime anyone calls other people "Wentz Washers” that person loses credibility on the topic.  He has zero objectivity.   It’s been personal with him and others for a while.  Before this past season.

Dude you’ve called me a moron in the past and literally called me a "dolt” this morning Lol does that mean you lose credibility as well? Or does that only apply to terms about members of the team? Do people who use "Hurts Huggers” lose credibility on their opinion about Jalen? Hell, I posted I thought Schwartz did a decent job given the pieces he’s had to work with and was immediately labeled a "Schwartz shampooer”  I thought it was the funniest ish ever lol

That’s the difference....some people in here need to lighten up and stop taking Wentz critiques or even attacks so personally that way yall feelings aren’t hurt. Not everybody likes everybody and Wentz looked abysmal last year, I can understand why so many people soured on him.

Again, I thought he raised a valid point. Whether you believe he was trolling or not, nobody has addressed it 🤷‍♂️

Howie might be calling the plays and setting the rotations if Duce is HC 😂

Carolina has the #8 overall picks and no QB.

This X 1000.... spot on article.  Exactly how I feel about the current coaching search and state of the team, why I don't care who they hire right now, and also why I would actually feel bad for Duce if they give it to him.  It will be his only time as an NFL head coach and it will not be pretty.

Eytan Shander: No matter who they hire, the next Eagles coach is being set up to fail

As long as the same power structure remains, Doug Pederson's successor doesn't stand a chance.

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie talks with general manager Howie Roseman.

Does it even matter? I don’t even care anymore at this point. Just get it over with and put me out of my misery.

The Eagles won’t hire the right head coach because the right people aren’t hiring the next head coach. It’s really that simple.

The people who have fostered the current culture have made this job the opposite of desirable. Sure, there are "only 32 of these jobs!” and we've see a ton of issues in the hiring process itself. But this isn't that. This is an owner and patsy GM who won’t allow any strong-willed coach to come in and set his own agenda — and the entire NFL knows it.

The secret is out, the Eagles are a laughingstock. What it would take to fix this mess is something the owner would never consider — because he already did it, and it failed miserably. Not because of the theory, rather the person he picked.

Handing the keys of your team over to a strong-minded football coach who has the smarts and ability to draft and communicate with players is a great thing. Doing all that with Chip Kelly, however, was a colossal mistake. But the theory still holds. Find the right person with the right brain in this game, allow them to make all the grocery selections, then don’t hover over them while they prepare the meal.

The level of micromanagement — i.e. Doug Pederson not being able to pick his own staff — is as much of a deterrent in taking this job as anything else on the table — and the entire NFL knows it. Any coach with at least one other option wouldn’t take this job, and I can’t blame him. Anyone who knows Pederson made a call right away to the former Eagles coach and got the full report on just how ridiculous this place is.

That’s why it took Josh McDaniels having his worst year ever as an OC just to be on the Eagles’ radar. They couldn’t get McDaniels after a decent year. This is how bad the Eagles have fallen. They tried to bring Jim Schwartz back and he declined. Pederson is taking the year off after basically ensuring his own exit. People want out!

It’s why I couldn’t care less who they hire. It’s why it won’t matter. The last guy came in and won a Super Bowl, which was STILL not enough to gain enough of the GM and owner's trust to simply to pick his own staff. The new coach will be walking into a minefield at QB — created by the front office — and will be undermined and insulted through media reports if he goes against the already established "culture” in Philadelphia.

What is the bar for the next head coach? The last guy won and was driven out. Is the new bar simply, "sit there and shut up?” It certainly feels that way.

This past week has been a sobering reminder of how bad of a shitshow this team is now — and now the entire NFL knows it. We’ve seen two big things happen that truly illustrate how bad this situation is in Philadelphia. First, the reports surrounding Carson Wentz and how difficult he is to work with. I remember so many people angry with Joe Santoliquito when his story came out right here on PhillyVoice almost exactly two years ago, but in hindsight we see something new come out about Wentz each year – and they're coming from inside the Eagles organization.

The next thing is how the Eagles job opening is nothing more than the least desirable opening. The Texans – who have a more realistic chance of being able to trade their QB and are also run by a bunch of morons — are a better landing spot because there’s nothing to repair with Deshaun Watson outside of his feelings toward the Texans. What a joke.

I won’t hate you for celebrating, won’t judge you for being happy, I certainly won’t come down on anyone for being patient with the new hire. But let me assure you one thing — an inevitability if you will — about what’s going to happen here. It’s something I know will happen because it happened to everyone, including Big Red.

The problem with the Philadelphia Eagles remains in the front office. It remains in the owner’s seat on Sundays. The problem is the warped power structure, the sniping and shots fired behind backs, the smear campaigns on the way out, everything all in one. No head coach is going to change that…

And the entire NFL knows it.

Under the same structure, Pederson won a SB, has a statue in front of the stadium and will be a HC again in the 2022 hiring cycle.

The new coach may fail, but they'll have the ability to succeed if they're good.

The timing of replacing Reich is what really screwed a great deal up.  Reich was gone after all the other coaches had played the shuffle game.  There wasn't really time, and other teams had already set their coaching staffs and were going to block interviews with the Eagles.  Not much left to do.  Taylor was the assistant QB coach, so he was elevated.  Groh moved from WR to QB coach after DeFilippo left.  And then was elevated to OC... and WR coach was filled in by Brewer from the college ranks.

So, when it is suggested that McDaniels really screwed this team, he did.
OC - Reich
QB - Groh
Ass't QB - Taylor
WR - Brewer

became...
OC - Groh
QB - Taylor
WR - Brewer

Groh wasn't ready, neither was Taylor, but there wasn't much time to do anything else.

Thats a fine explanation for 2018 - but when it was obvious to the world that the assistants he was somewhat forced to promote weren't ready for their new roles he did nothing to correct it. NFL - not for long - you don't have time for guys to grow into their position. I can give Doug a pass on 2018 because I agree with you he ended up in a tough spot. But he has to address it in the 2019 offseason -

Move Groh back to WR coach where he is best suited - frame it the way you did - forced into promoting him - he's close but not yet ready - he got valuable experience in that role which will be a tremendous benefit in the future.

Hire a real OC.

Instead nice guy Doug decided to roll with it and hope for the best lest he insult Groh. AND then in 2020 when he was forced to move on he had a hissy fit and decided offense by committee - no OC just me and an OL coach and a RB coach and WR coach and Running Game Coordinator and a Passing Game Coordinator and a senior offense advisor and a partridge in a pear tree.

I hypothesize that when Doug said promote Press Taylor to OC Jeff resisted the temptation to punch him in the face and just fired him.
