There were so many injuries and less value placed on core special teamers that he didn’t have the horses he used to have.

The fact that the Eagles blocked him from interviewing at first suggests either they really liked him or that Sirianni and/or the other candidates had interest in keeping him.

My guess is that Sirianni kept Fipp around at first in case he missed his target.

I think they kept him around in case they had to go to plan C and make Duce HC. They froze all assistants when they fired Doug. Even Press was kept around/not told he wouldn’t be returning. I doubt Sirianni had interest in him.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

ST’s have been trending down for the last few years. Part of this is Kelly investing into star ST players like Maragos/Braman, part is all the injuries not helping, part is Fipp either making bad decisions or someone else having input on players. It’s best at this point for both sides to move on.

Yeah, him staying or going just doesn’t move the needle much for me.

Thanks for LII, Fipp. And Press. I forgot to thank him earlier.

Has that been reported?

Sounds like Eskridge balled out today at the Senior Bowl.

Special teams were good his first couple of years. Since then, not so much

There was also an effort to sign players who specialized in special teams.... Sproles, Brahman, maragos?

Not reported just going off the leaks and rumors. Started with Scangarello and Marty, then Doug was fired and nothing came out until a few days after Sirianni was hired that Duce, Press and now Fip weren’t coming back but Stoutland was. Only one I don’t remember when was Peele.

Why does the NFL Network insist during the Senior Bowl practice shows about talking mainly about Day 3 or UDFA QBs instead of players likely to be drafted.  And unless they are talking about players there, I couldn’t care less about the coaches and what they have to say.

Yep. And on pass blocking they have to know who has what player, and to pass on defensive players on stunts, and that takes practice and communication.

You could see that with Mailata and Seumalo, it took a few games for them to get that down.

Hmmm... almost seems like if they had let Mailata stay out there instead of jerking him around, he might have gained that cohesion with Seumalo a bit sooner.

"All"?   Including Smith?

I wanted them to roll with Mailata when Dillard got injured

Sure it was Stoutland's decision to let him walk, roster space isn't at a premium right now, so if Stoutland thought he could be fixed, he'd still be here.

Or... since he had a chance to sign with the Chiefs, rather than the Eagles, he chose them.

I used to hate undersized players and bashed the Eagles for their tendency to chase them...did that from about 2000-2011.

Those days are over.  The NFL has changed.  If you can't be physical, it's not essential to be big.

DL is one of the places that you can still be (and should be) physical.

I get why they didn't.  Apparently, he didn't look great in TC.   Which is fine.  Once he got on the field in real games and looked like he belonged in the NFL, he never should have come off the field.   But, they had to kowtow to Jason Peters.

Wow... Shaka Tony, only 238lbs.  Can pretty much pencil him in as a 3-4 OLB target.  I don't see a 4-3 team being interested in him.

Sigh... wish we had him.

Quite a few long-armed LBs at the Senior Bowl. Maybe Gannon doesn’t care as much about it as Ballard, but I’ll pay attention to it until proven otherwise.

Brandon Browning, Charles Snowden, Jabrill Cox, Paddy Fisher, Hamilcar Rashed, Derrick Barnes all had wingspans of at least 79.5 inches, although I’m not sure Snowden or Rashed project to be 4-3 LBs.

Missed those.  Tommy so rarely posts in ScoutsNotebook anymore.

Sounds like weakass crybabies running the senior bowl

Looking into corners’ arm length during Gannon’s time in Indy and Minnesota...

* In Minnesota, Xavier Rhodes was the only corner considered to be long-armed. Trae Waynes and Mike Hughes both were on the shorter side.

* Interestingly, Indy put more emphasis on it. Ballard drafted Quincy Wilson (32 inches, 72nd percentile) in round 2. With Gannon aboard, Rock Ya-Sin (32 inches) in round 2 and he signed Xavier Rhodes (33.7 inches) in FA, and it’s well documented that Gannon both coached him in Minnesota and helped turn around his career. The Colts even drafted a corner with 36 inch arms late one year.

How much of that was Ballard and how much did Gannon influence CB prototypes, if at all? If Gannon wants to play more cover 3, I would imagine we’re going to be pretty picky about arm length at CB.

Snead and McVay are doing everything but saying out loud that Goff is finished with the Rams.  "He’s our QB at the moment”

Yup. People complain JJAW over DK. I wanted thornhill instead of JJAW. He would’ve been the perfect replacement for mcleod and a position they had neglected to address knowing jenkins was aging and expensive. And knowing mcleod was also becoming more expensive and was coming off a major injury.

Except Seumalo came back about the time Mailata was benched. So there was no chemistry until Mailata returned.

Peters was better than Mailata for two games at LT.

Then he hurt his toe, and after Mailata returned, he took his game up a level.

i don't think Stoutland kowtows to anyone, whether it's Peters or Howie - he knows he'll always have a job.
