Well, when your HC is calling plays that are horrid fits to both your skill package and the team's personnel, yeah, you tend to lose confidence.

The whole point of drafting Wentz was to develop a QB that can run the team on the field, make the audibles at the LOS, etc. And he was a traditional pocket QB with mobility, not a RPO QB.

Sirianni and Wentz both have strong incentives to make this work, Wentz knows if he's traded he can bounce around the league the rest of his career, going from one scheme to another and eventually be benched. Whereas if he makes it work here, he's both the start QB through his current contract but almost certain to get an extension. Sirianni and Steichen both have experience with pocket QBs.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

THIS

The new Inside the Birds pod today didn't have much.

Caplan said a PC is coming sometime this week. Reason for it being delayed is the Eagles were behind already in filling out the coaching staff, Sirianni had to talk to all the coaches still under contract while also trying to bring in outside guys. Basically he has a lot of work to do so they are making that the priority.

Sirianni spoke with Moorehead. Conversation was said to went well, but Mosher was still iffy he would return.

Sirianni is contemplating a senior offensive assistant. Nothing set in stone though.

Tracy Rocker is a done deal.

Once Schwartz announced retirement Burke said he didn't want to coach D'line. His pedigree is in LB so he could still be retained to coach there.

Holy Ish.  Univ of Tennessee hired Josh Heupel as HC.  Not sure what to think about that.  His name was not tossed around.  I guess since their new AD came from UCF, it makes sense....But...can't say I am happy with it...what else is new.

My co-worker is a huge TN fan.  Liked the AD hire, a little luke warm on this but said Heupel had a good offense at Missouri and wants him to keep the current RB coach and Tee Martin on the staff

pretty much sums it up

There are 31 teams in the NFL that would not trade a 2022 7th round pick for Ward.

I really hope that Sirianni hires a strong fundamentals teaching QB coach.  If Wentz is going to disagree with the OC and probably the passing game coordinator on game planning and plays, which I view as good and bad, then he needs a separate strict disciplinarian teacher on fundamentals and so does Hurts and unknown #3 guy.  What Cosell said about fixing from the waste down is right.  Wentz should be working with a QB guru on that all offseason.  His mechanics are fixable but the fix needs to become muscle memory. It is workable.

I would love to read about Wentz sitting down with the HC, OC and PC, like Rodgers did last season, and going over what works and what doesn’t.  Part of that needs to be film work on his receivers.  Cure that hesitation and Fulgham, Reagor, Ward become better WRs because they get the ball at separation and have a better chance of YAC.  Figure out where each player best excels at getting the ball.

It’s doable.

Interesting read on AR's first coaching staff:

https://www.nbcsports.com/philadelphia/eagles/surprising-look-back-how-andy-reid-picked-his-1999-coaching-staff

"You can see by the people I’m hiring that I’m looking for a certain kind of person,” Reid told reporters during the hiring process. "I’m not going to hire anybody who isn’t a teacher. I want high-character people here.”

People put too much emphasis on "Xs" and "Os", like I've pointed out, everything is stolen in the NFL, you can't keep a new idea "new" more than a few weeks, at best one season.

The edge you get out of a coaching staff is teaching, improving your talent level by improving your players.

Everybody knew exactly what Vince Lombardi was going to run, but it didn't matter, because they executed those plays perfectly. Some things never change.

But, I thought Doug wasn't smart enough and sucked at Xs and Os despite being a good person and we were putting all the blame on him?

So you are saying back shoulder throws to reagor against Bradbury, fade passes to butler after being on the team for a week, abandoning using miles sanders and benching herbig for brown and opeta doesn’t instill confidence?

three years the eagles had the same problem. First three months they were clueless on how to utilize their personnel and maximize their strengths. Then December they finally began to figure some of their personnel and play to their strengths. There was damnit doug (september to end of November) and December doug (this December wasn’t that great like the previous two).

The patriots would and also somehow get a 6 in return

There is another Joe Giglio in sports media, down here in Raleigh.  And guess what, he’s a moron too.

I agree, Tom Brady is lucky he hasn't been banned from the NFL for being involved in not one but 2 cheating scandals, one in which he was suspended 4 games for lying and destroying evidence.

He's a chump, does he have talent? Sure, has he maximized that talent? Sure. Do I think he's the GOAT, No, I think he's a cheater who has been in a lot of favorable situations.

His first super bowl he should have never been in as every one knows he fumbled against the raiders which led to a rule change. Even then he wins his first super bowl not because he carried his team but like a lot of his super bowl wins the other team melted down, Martz was an idiot and refused to run the ball with his all pro RB, he pulled a andy reid and still it took a clutch kick from vinitieri the real GOAT to win it

Mind you the pats hadn't been busted for spygate yet either, same with their 03 Superbowl. Vinitieri the real GOAT again saved Brady.

Next year 04 brady was lucky Mcnabb showed up hung over and a hung over mcnabb still almost beat him.

Then spygate hits, the league destroys the evidence and fines the PATs.

Then brady loses to the giants  twice.

Then beats the Seahawks because seattle makes one of the worst calls in the history of football

Then beats the falcons because shanahan is an idiot and with a 20+ point lead in the 4th quarter refuses to run the ball, all they had to do is run the ball and punt and play prevent defense and the pats run out o stead falcons have biggest choke job in super bowl history.

Then of course brady loses in a shootout to a backup qb then following year beat the overrated mcvays who scored all of 3 points and brady in that game was no more than a game manager.

Then he goes to the bucs with a loaded offense throws a bunch of Interceptions and then the bucs beat up a Packers team that self destructed.

Yes Tom Brady is the LOAT

By my count his First 3 Superbowls should be discounted because of spy gate, the next two he lost the next one was deflategate and the Seahawks being morons, the next one the falcons being morons but hey at least no cheating scandal the next he lost the next he won being a game manager non impact player.

By my count without the scandals he's won 2 legit Superbowls, the falcons and the Rams, and lost 3

2 and 3 in super bowls us still pretty good but not GOAT.

That goes to Montana who was 4-0 in Superbowls without cheating or having his GOAT kicker bailing him out.

Yep. Playing in a bad conference for years helped as well.  They pulled some cheap crap against Tenn in the playoffs one year too where they lined up a certain way and it confused the heck out of people. Bill was always pushing the envelope.

Also, if Chad didn't get hurt against the Falcons on the last TD the Eagles win that game even with the cheating.

Honestly, if not for that call against the Raiders he never would have played the Rams. Is he the GOAT? Doesn't matter what I think he'll be labeled that forever.

Colts last year were 2nd in 10yd plus plays.

They were 6th in 20 yd plus plays.

27th in Play Action

20th in RPO

41out of 50, 20yd plays were with the 11 personal, not two TE.

Yup. That eagles 2004 team was loaded they lost shawn Andrews game 1 who was better than hicks, list buckhalter of course to his bi annual knee Injury then lost Chad lewis in the NFCCG a game he scored 2 tds and T.O was playing on a broken leg, plus Mcnabb was hung over and despite all that and the pats cheating the eagles still almost won and should have.

Yup and he'll   be labeled the GOAT despite what I say.

I can't wait til he retires I'm sick about him in another super bowl to the point I probably won't watch it even though I live in Kansas.

Yep. I say it all the time....if Chad didn't get hurt they win cause he wouldn't have fumbled like LJ did when they stood him up and ripped it out. I forgot about Andrews and Buck (but like you said he always went down). Freaking Cowboys and that horse collar tackle putting him on that bum ankle like you said. Oh well...

Yeah, I might watch bits and pieces but I have no desire to see Brady in another Super Bowl

Yup not to mention the drop LJ had on the last drive and also LJ inability to block even a little.

Chad was by no means an elite blocker but he gave max effort and understood angles and leverage, LJ was useless as a blocker and it hurt in the super bowl. Andy called retired jeff thomason off his couch to be the 2 TE which was an obvious downgrade from Chad and limited the 12 package.

Thems the breaks and it all happens to every team in football yet none if that excuses or minimizes the pats cheating.

10 Super Bowls lol, 10!

Chanting "F Tom Brady” with hundreds of others in the streets the night the Eagles won the Super Bowl will be one of the greatest memories of my life.

So, F Tom Brady.

He's going to request #11 too.

Has to be the lowest HC, OC, and QB coach  average age of all time or damn close.

Johnson is only 33, so another young gun on this staff, and I believe the youngest so far. Interesting they are avoiding the more experienced types for these assistant positions.

Also not seeing any obvious connections to Sirianni or his staff on this. Might be a Howie rouge hire since its his alma mater.
