I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

McMahon was a name and nothing more.  He could have potentially kept things just enough afloat to let the D win more games, but nothing of his play said he could have been a key piece of a run that year.

Not being completely incompetent would have been much much better than Pat Ryan, Brad Goebel and Jeff Kemp.   Not sure if McMahon had enough left in the tank to win a Super Bowl (nor Kotite not to screw it up), but that was 100% a Super Bowl championship defense.   Greatest ever, IMHO.

Daniel Jones, Saquan Barkley and 3 1sts for Deshaun Watson?  That's what your boy Orlovsky is saying.  Dude is crazy.

What on earth did you guys expect from an introductory news conference?

* Sirianni hit the right marks and gave non-answers as expected.

* GMs having final say over the 53 and HC’s on the gameday roster is standard.

* Sirianni is a young, first-time HC, of course he’s going to defer to the GM. That’s pretty standard.

* Him not committing to Wentz is interesting. Not that I expected him to name him the starter, but to pretend he hasn’t already watched him closely and discussed Wentz extensively during the interview process would be burying your head in the sand. All options are on the table I think.

This.

Well that’s how they treated Doug: have him defend their own decisions in front of the media. I actually thought the way the Texans handled it was much better but, at the same time, they are far more committed to Watson than we are to Wentz ( btw isn’t that interesting?).

If Carson is that much of a diva and that bad of a teammate, would he be helping his replacement during the game?

I agree with this. There would be more evidence if he were as much of a jerk as the few negative articles say. I'm sure there are kernals of truth to them, but it only takes a few people on the team or in the organization who don't like the guy to seed such a narrative in a media thirsty for it.

All that said, I hope Carson sees he has weaknesses to address on and off the field.

Sure. The Texans probably really have no interest in trading him and desperately want it to work out.

The Eagles just benched Wentz for a C+ rookie prospect.

Some people are just against those who stutter.

Under Lurie the Eagles have made good choices at head coach, not many teams can say they’ve been in the playoffs more often than not.
Everyone remembers Gase, Mcadoo and before that Gus Bradley right?    Now it’s time for him to step away from the team and let Howie, ugh, the scouts, and Siri decide what to do with Wentz, the roster and the draft.  Howie should disappear in September and let Siri run the team from then to January.

Exactly...it is too early to draw any conclusions from that was said or unsaid....

Lol lets be honest here though. That's the only thing anyone really cares about. Whether he's choosing Wentz or not

Nah.  I care about whether or not I have to stomach seeing Greg freaking Ward getting trotted out to fair catch (or not) a punt next season.   With Fipp gone, I have high hopes.

I still say that just putting no one back and trying to block every punt would have been a better outcome than Greg Ward back there.

I firmly believe that Carson is embroiled in negotiations with Howie to afford the team some cap relief and that colored how the coach responded in the press conference.  We saw that all the time with Banner.  Realistically, Carson’s contract makes him unable to be traded this year.  How come no one asked if Ertz, BG or Cox will be back?  Extremely disappointed in the questions asked by the reporters.  I guess scheme questions will wait for the coordinators ().

I sincerely doubt the coach has done a thorough analysis of Carson or any other player.  That would mean watching tape from each season.   I do think he talked with Reich about him.  He probably talked to Press about him as he considered whether to retain Press.  But fully evaluated him? No, I don’t think so.  He’s been kind of busy filling his staff.

Any time I read these type of stories that come out my first thing to myself who would benefit from those stories coming out and why would they want to put them out there.

With the stories with Carson Wentz I don’t think it’s the organization because that hurts them from the standpoint even if they wanted to move on from him that they get no value for him at all. Other teams around the league are going to read that and see it so if it’s the Eagles organization putting that out there that kills their value. They aren’t going to do that unless they are outright releasing him like they did with DeSean and that "gang” story

so I go to the next person Carson Wentz and his camp. They might be diabolical enough to make him look so bad that the Eagles are forced into a corner to move on from him. However I think that has the potential to completely backfire on them to the point where the Eagles are not  going to just release him with the dead money hit and get nothing for him. It also Hurts his chances to be traded out due to the bad look and the story killing trade value. So seems less likely it’s them with this move as i tend to believe they know they aren’t just going to release him and trade him away for no value.

so now I go to coaches or front office personnel that know they aren’t going to be back next year. They are more inclined to give reporters inside access as they’re trying to say face for their next job. what went on in that locker room and behind the scenes so that when they go to apply for the next job they can say well this all happened and it wasn’t as much our fault as it was this and we tried all this and it just wasn’t going to work. Plus they’re not coming back so they can say whatever they want without any repercussions from the organization or care if it hurts the organization as they aren’t back. Makes a lot of sense of the source is coming from this end.

Lol. If I’m the Texans are much rather just take the Jets 2nd overall, 2 more firsts and draft a QB with 2. Or ask Miami for 3, tua and another first or two. Jones blows. I rather take my chances with tua then jones.

That may be true but I think they mean give each player a grade on every play.  I think it's at that point they will see where they are at the position.  I will say the message from the FO was that they wanted a coach that would bring Carson back.  I don't think I heard that today.  What I heard is that there are 2 QBs and we will go with the one that we think is best.  The coach hasn't decided who is best yet.

I know I didn't.

Your last point is the big issue.  There is no way in the world, he hasn't looked at tape.  That was his coached stock answer that Lowie gave to him.  Which is weak and pretty sad.  GM's having final say could be standard (I don't buy it).  But Howie is not a standard GM.  He is not a player evaluator....period.  Regardless of how much Lurie tries to endorse him as such.  It's insane to think this current structure will work.  He didn't hit the right marks.  8 days to prepare and he came off very scared and aloof.  That's how Lowie likes them though.  Happy to be there, rah rah guy until he wants more power...

If he answered the Wentz question with more conviction and hell......lie to us...  But to simply say, "I can't talk about that".  Their public relations team did a crap job of getting him ready.

Your first paragraph is why it made no sense for them to go after Riley, they saw what happened with Chip, do they think a college coach who runs everything at their school is gonna come here and kiss Howie’s ass?   They have hired good coaches in the end but that college stuff makes zero sense.

First feel from this guy isn't good if I'm being honest. But we'll see

I couldn't give two rats' tails what he does or doesn't say in his opening press conference.

Buddy Ryan came out with bluster... "There's a winner in town"... except he only coached half the team, and couldn't buy a win in the playoffs.
Doug Pederson came out tripping over himself, and the Eagles won the Super Bowl in his second season.

I don't care what he says... it's what he does that matters.

I hope the team not committing to Carson as the guy will light a fire under him. Hard to say if that's the right strategy, but I also think Carson needs to know he owns part of the disaster that was last season. Why does everyone treat "QB controversy" as some terrible thing to be avoided at all costs?

(EDIT: by "everyone" I don't mean literally everyone, and certainly not everyone on the blog)

I think he already knows that

I think the mahomes argument has some validity to it. You have to have a QB that’s at least capable of playing great in the moment. Most teams lose to the chiefs cause mahomes has the ability to play a so-so game by his standards but would still be good for other QBs and other teams QBs play Ok which isn’t enough. I don’t believe the QB has  to be mahomes level but the rest of the team around him is very good or great to equal the field especially with the offensive skill players the chiefs have. However i don’t think you are beating the chiefs along with mahomes without having a top 8ish QB and a great team around them.

It takes a team to win.

Groh was in Indianapolis as well.   There are tampering rules so Reich and their GM can only say so much but it seems most people in the league have them going after Bradford, not Wentz.

True however i don’t think the team knocking off the chiefs is winning with a QB playing like a fringe top 20 QB. Need to have a QB that’s capable of playing good along with a great/good team. So the QB doesn’t need to be mahomes but also likely can’t be Daniel jones out there.

This is a good recap of Lurie's introduction today

I just think that he was trying to be very diplomatic and tactful with his answers about the situation, and he did a poor job communicating that. I am sure he is regretting a few of his answers and hopefully learns for the future. I don't think there is much to read into it other than being his very first PC as a head coach in front of strangers.

I am sure he has looked at film, but the type of deep dive it requires with so many variables (personnel, injuries, OL etc), he is not at a place to draw any conclusions...I am sure he will want to back step some of his comments.

I really don’t think it’s as great package comparatively too other teams (assuming Deshaun would be ok playing in Miami or Jets). Daniel jones is not a good QB. To me his value is not that great. He was overrated then and taken at 6th. I’d rather draft a QB high then roll with jones. I believe they owe David Johnson and Duke Johnson a bunch of money so barkley doesn’t help them out. Plus he’s coming off an acl injury. The three firsts are nice but I’m assuming the Dolphins and Jets firsts are as tempting particularly the Jets. Get 2 overall to get your QB in fields, Wilson. Then still likely have another 2 firsts is the giants are offering that and the Jets have a 5 firsts the next 3 years.
