I just think that he was trying to be very diplomatic and tactful with his answers about the situation, and he did a poor job communicating that. I am sure he is regretting a few of his answers and hopefully learns for the future. I don't think there is much to read into it other than being his very first PC as a head coach in front of strangers.

I am sure he has looked at film, but the type of deep dive it requires with so many variables (personnel, injuries, OL etc), he is not at a place to draw any conclusions...I am sure he will want to back step some of his comments.

What you say has some merit to it. Unfortunately he has already started off on the wrong foot. Like I said his first impression is weak but we'll see how it goes.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

You should go read the response(s) I got in the Surtain thread for asking a simple question of what he's watching that I'm not seeing.

The guy's name is 'stinkfist' and you are expecting intellectual debate?  Sorry, bro.  I think this one's on you.  lol   Don't cast your pearls before swine.

The PC itself didn't sway me one way or the other. I'm just happy he avoided that rah rah beat em up high school crap. Lowie wanted him to be vague, and he was. I can see how this did him no favors to the general fan base though. The interview with Spadaro was much more encouraging.

1.) You should never talk techniques outside this blog.

2.) What do you expect from someone with the screen name "stinkfist"?

Listen to Mr. Greend. @Wentz_Era

Man Eagles fans are the best. They’re calling him "Nicky 2 times”  cause he repeated everything and stuttered 🤣

Frankly I don’t take anything out of their pressers anymore because usually it’s just a bunch of nonsense. Lurie has talked twice this offseason and both of them were a load of crap. Howie and pederson had one together and was a bunch of malarkey. The only thing in question I thought you could take anything out of him that press conference was the last one from Jimmy kempski and sirianni where he actually gave you a legitimate

Nah.  I care about whether or not I have to stomach seeing Greg freaking Ward getting trotted out to fair catch (or not) a punt next season.   With Fipp gone, I have high hopes.

I still say that just putting no one back and trying to block every punt would have been a better outcome than Greg Ward back there.

Knowing the love of analytics on this team, I would not be a bit surprised of Greg was doing what he was coached to do.  That said, I have been eyeing slot receivers who also return punts.

What on earth did you guys expect from an introductory news conference?

* Sirianni hit the right marks and gave non-answers as expected.

* GMs having final say over the 53 and HC’s on the gameday roster is standard.

* Sirianni is a young, first-time HC, of course he’s going to defer to the GM. That’s pretty standard.

* Him not committing to Wentz is interesting. Not that I expected him to name him the starter, but to pretend he hasn’t already watched him closely and discussed Wentz extensively during the interview process would be burying your head in the sand. All options are on the table I think.

This.

I didn't watch the whole thing myself, but from what I gather on social media/radio/etc is that it was more of a vibe thing, he came off nervous, and him saying he didn't watch tape on any of the players. Which has people question why he was so impressive in the interview if he couldn't give breakdowns on their roster since he hasn't seen any of them play.

I think the fear was already there by the fans that he was hired to be a "puppet" and when they see a nervous stumbling guy speaking it feeds into that narrative.

This.

Howie's response:

Lurie pontificates for 20 minutes, takes no questions... Howie is in a bomb shelter somewhere... takes no questions, and the coach gets all the heat and has to tap dance about a mess that he didn't even have any part in creating.

Lowie is a coward... both of him.

I don't think he will do that.  Hopefully he's learned his lesson.

I just don't have that faith

I can't remember if it was already mentioned in here but the "Brian Johnson knows Jalen Hurts since he was 4" is so overblown. The connection there is Hurts dad was the Highschool coach of Johnson. Jalen is so tangentially involved in this situation it means nothing.

Doug benched him for a C+ rookie prospect...Not the Eagles.  I guess that is an important distinction now.

Wentz led the league in sacks and didn’t play the last three games. Our QBs were getting hammered almost every play.  Maybe the sat their oft injured, very expensive QB to protect him.

First impressions are kinda importanat

If he stammers in front of the team, spouting nonsense, then it matters... if he stammers in front of the press, who cares?

The proof is in the pudding.

He's already being mocked for this clip. Yeah, he sounded very awkward, but I'll defend him somewhat in this clip has no bearing on whether or not he can coach, and people are already using it to push their "You hired THIS GUY over Bieniemy???" agenda.

I'll take the coach who stutters over the coach who assaults women. That's just me though.

Which is why I have hopes for the future with Fipp getting blown out of town.    Sadly, not all the rats in this ship have been cleared out.

And I remind folks, I like Greg Ward, the person.   I just can't stand watching him on the field as the most prolific WR on this team, and the primary punt returner.  He just stands as the symbol for all things that have gone wrong with this team... he's the offensive/ST version of Nate Gerry on the defense.

What did you just say about D'Wayne Eskridge?

Tony Dungy and Belichek approach.  Simple to learn and make muscle memory.

First Foles was the problem.  Now Hurts is the problem.

At what point is Carson Wentz the problem?

He is a problem, but he's also a talented one. They have to make a choice. If they want to go with Wentz then they have to clear the table and put him in a situation to succeed and go all in. If they aren't willing to make that investment knowing his mental blocks, then Wentz (or both) should be moved, and they draft a new one at 6.

Bottom line is he has mental blocks. You can't try to rehabilitate him looking over his shoulder. Make a choice and go with it.

I actually liked that comment.  Football doesn't have to be complicated.  Example, if  you are going to run a flanker screen, you put Reagor or Watkins out there, execute, block and let a guy with speed get yards.  Doug made it hard, trying to be the smartest guy in the room, and put Greg Ward out there.

SB nation, so take it FWIW. Claims there are 3 other teams interested in him also.

Yeah, but it's probably his first time giving a speech to this large of an audience. Public speaking takes times and practice and doesn't reflect on him as a coach.

Performances over press conferences are ridiculous. I remember the niners media were gushing over when they hired Chip. He seemed like a real coach as compared to Tomsula who sounded like a knucklehead in his first pc. Chip then went 2-14 and got canned after a year.

I want my coach to coach.  Don't care if he talks eloquently to the media or not.
