This is why I said on Saturday they should just play Nate Sudfeld from the start and use the excuse you didn’t want to get Jalen hurts or Carson Wentz injured in a meaningless game and where that injury bleeds into the 2021 season. Nobody would’ve said much of anything if that’s the route you would’ve went.

Exactly.  Instead the Eagles go out and make fools of themselves, eventhough it's getting over blown big time by media and social media.

Whoever's decision it was, Howie, Doug or someone else, they handled it like idiots.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

I've read a couple of of scouting reports on Pitts that says he might be not only the best TE in the draft but the best WR in the draft.   Thoughts?

He'll go top 10-12

Says Wentz has not discussed his future with the team yet and that conversation will happen when "the time is right". Also says the relationship is strained and both sides will have to come together to make it work.

Jenkins was older. Ertz has some years left in him. I believe he has value unlike Jenkins. Anything can happen and I wouldn't be surprised after how this season played out. I still think they trade him

I really don't know at this point.  Usually in situations like this, the player's agent, the player, the team, potential trading team all get together and work something out that makes everyone happy...even if it means taking a slightly less valuable pick in return and maybe a little less money on the contract.

That said, it doesn't seem that Ertz' agent wanted to play ball with the Eagles with the extension so I really have no idea how this all will pan out.  I mean, the Eagles have control of him if they want...so I hope his agent realizes he won't be doing Ertz any favors if he tries to "hard ball" them again.

I appreciate everything that Ertz has done for this team, but if getting rid of him means getting rid of the 12 personnel packages and getting more receivers on the field, I'm for it. Goedert is athletic enough to be good in more 11 personnel style stuff. That has to be taken out of the offense. It's not the main reason why the offense has struggled the past two seasons, but they need a schematic change to help open things up more.

Yes - Ertz isn't a vital part of a scheme that will result in a great downfield passing game.  The 12 personnel did not result in a dominant red zone offense vs how the team performed in 2017.  They were below average in 2018, slightly above in 2019 and this season.  There is virtually no advantage created by having 2 very good TE in terms of scheme.

It’s 100% avoidable if the Eagles would’ve just been smarter about it. You basically benched 15 guys anyways you might as well just done it with Hurts and wentz and went with the excuse you didn’t want one of them getting hurt and having it bleed into the 2021 season. Legitimately if you said that people probably would’ve grilled you a little bit with the they can get hurt at anytime crap but it would not have been nearly as bad as what you are getting now

Whats the cap hit on the final year? I can see a situation where Howie cuts enough cap and holds on to him until the draft to get compensation

Between the bad teams he played

the talent around him

the scheme from superior coaching staffs

I want no part of a Tight end that early. Tight ends are becoming running backs. the difference between a top 20 tight end and a 4th rounder isnt worth it

Yeah unless the TE you draft that early is going to be a major feature of your offense like Gronk was and how Kelce and Kittle are now.

The decision on Doug needs to come down ASAP. It seems like Howie is staying no matter what, unfortunately. If you're going to fire Doug, do it yesterday and get on with the search. I could see Lurie dragging his feet on this, Doug ends up walking away, and then we're like a month behind in the coaching search.

So Carson and Doug are going to couples counseling?

I’d be willing to bet at this point in time that whoever Zach Ertz signs a new contract with it’s not going to be as good of a contract as the Eagles initially offered him because of his performance this year. And the fact that he’s in his 30s and the fact he actually suffered an injury as well. He might have passed on his best contract that he was going to receive. I compare this to Le’veon thinking he was going to get more sitting out a year and hitting free agency and the Steelers contract was better than the one he got from the Jets

Agreed.  Need to get it done and get Brian Daboll on the phone ASAP.

Nah. Even then you don't need to draft one in a first. Gronk was a 2nd, Kelce a 3rd, Kittle a 5th. Even Ertz was a 2nd.

I didnt take a genius to figure out even before the game started that the Eagles had no interest in winning this game.  With all the guys ruled out nobody thought they'd win.

For me it's virtually a given that both Howie and Doug are back next season. That's not the decision I would've made but it's not my team lol.

I know Mosher and caplan talked about this on the podcast and then again on 975 yesterday, they weren’t sold on the fact that Doug Peterson is 100% coming back. They think a lot of it depends on the meeting that he has today. I am kind of in agreement tbh. If they going to the meeting and Doug says I don’t want to give up playcalling and I don’t want you guys picking my coaches and Roseman/lurie have a different view than Doug Then that meeting could go very sour very fast. Now I think he’s coming back and is willing to make some adjustments. But I think playcalling is a huge sticking point for him. My personal belief is that Doug probably thinks he can get another head-coaching job somewhere else where he can call plays so why would he want to give that up.

They need to work something out before the 2021 season begins because his cap hit in 2021 would be 12.4 million.

How often is a player looking for a new deal like this actually traded? I think whatever extension the Eagles had put on the table is likely off the table.  My guess is he will ask for his release and it will be granted.  There's no reason for the Eagles to try to negotiate some trade or for Ertz to agree to it absent some competition for his services.  The only exception to this would be if Ertz is fine being traded to a place without a deal in place.  I am not sure that any team is going to be interested in him.  The only team I could think of would be Indy.

It didn’t. However if you’re going to rule all those other guys out you easily could’ve done it at qb as well and not put yourself in this crap storm.

He doesn't look like a TE.  He looks like a bigger WR. I'm not sure he would be a great blocker as a TE.

so why not draft him to be a WR with occasional play at TE?  he played a good amount of WR at Florida and is a mismatch on most anyone.

Not as much as I thought it would be. I'm just glad Jeffery, Jackson, and Djax are all on their way out. Goodwin most likely will be too

Yeah, I really don't know at this point.  If Indy is the most likely destination, I wouldn't be shocked if they work something out that also involves Wentz.  (Reich+Wentz+Ertz reunited)

Anything can happen at this point, imo.

My ideal scenario is trading down and picking a CB in RD1. We have no young outside CBs on the roster. Trading down lets us pick the #1 position of need on the team for either Farley/Surtain + lets us pick another solid player in RD2 or 3.

Trading down is the correct move 90% of the time.

I realize this is the correct move for the organization and for the future.  But I really really want one of those freak receivers.  Preferably Chase.

As much as I like Daboll The assumption that he will just come to the Eagles over other teams I think is overlooking other opportunities. the Chargers have Justin Herbert. Play in the same division as the Chiefs which hurts that job. You also have the Texans with Deshaun Watson. What hurts them is lack of draft picks in this draft. The jags who are going to get Trevor Lawrence but then again it’s the jags and their ownership. And the Jets who he might like Sam Darnold and he might like Justin fields and then again it is the Jets as the downside. The Eagles have their warts too. I don’t think it would just be automatic he’d one to the eagles over some other teams
