Well for one I’m talking more recent than over Lurie’s entire ownership. I didn’t say this was always the case, just meant more recently it’s par the course. Second, this isn’t emotional at all. Look at everything they did recently. They overcorrect themselves constantly that it’s always a detriment. There’s never any nuance. Even benching Wentz was a disaster. They could have done what everyone else does by benching Wentz at halftime but going back to him the next game. They couldn’t even do that right. They weren’t happy with the speed of the team so they focus only on speed and didn’t improve at all. They weren’t happy with the OC so they bring in 10 guys and didn’t improve at all. They drafted a QB in the 2nd round immediately after signing their QB to an extension. If you can’t see that this current regime thinks they are smarter than everyone else and has recently been making constant dumb and confusing decisions I don’t know what to tell you.

I'm not disputing the past couple years so you don't have to tell me anything nor try to convince me.  We know the disfunction and the results.  But let's not act like they have been the Browns or Jets year after year.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Two first round picks just to upgrade from Jared Goff to Matt Stafford — what a horrid trade.  Stafford isn’t going to take them where they want to go.

This is a trade that should get a GM fired.

100%! That's a terrible trade. I mean that's a win now move if ever there was one. No first round pick in 2022 or 2023? And only a year or so after giving up 2 first round picks for Ramsey!

The salary dump makes it make more sense now, but still pretty steep.

I wouldn’t take him at 6. But in a trade down scenario that picks us up an extra 2nd...like with the Niners for 12 and 43 for example. I would take him there at 12 in a heartbeat. My preference is Chase at 6.

It doesn't matter to me if its at 6 or 12 I still dont see them taking Pitts unless they feel he can play the WR position. Yes they could move him around and use him a few times lined up as a 2nd TE or slot. However if they don't feel he can be that Mike Evans type of player on the outside then they wont draft him at all.

If anyone needs some entertainment, stop by a Rams forum, they’re pissed, a few want the Reddit Army to sue the team, it’s hysterical. They have lost their crap!

All 5 Rams fans are pissed. Oh well

You know who loved that trade?  Houston.  Man, LA just f-ed themselves royally.  I like Stafford and root for guys like him.  But he’s already 32.  Has a lot of wear and tear on him. And the Rams could have drafted their Goff replacement in the next few drafts with one of their picks they just traded away.  So when Stafford is 35 they will be hoping to acquire a good young QB. He might be broken by then.  The Texans will not settle for anything less then what Detroit just got.

I couldn’t imagine trading Watson for anything less than four 1st round picks.

I for one was very surprised Stafford went for this much. I do love Stafford, Im a Georgia guy for college. Maybe there is a little more to the details we have not seen but two 1st, a 3rd and Goff is pretty heavy for a 32 year old QB. I get the fact the Rams have a lot of the other pieces and QBs can sometimes can play till the late 30's/early 40's but Matt does get injuried a lot and that can result in him hanging them up quicker.

Id say the Lions made out like bandits. Anyone who says this doesnt set the market for QBs doesnt pay attention to past trades. Other team with QBs avail will use this as a "base". Yes the QB in question will increase or decrease the value but they will use this as an example to start from.

This also can help our case if a team like the 49ers, Panthers etc want to move up in the draft to land a QB.

A lot of fans in St. Louis are laughing.

The Rams are hated almost as much as the Cubs there.

I hope he learns from it, but he said in the past that he gets too attached to players and then kept bringing them back or extending them.

If he at least doesn’t learn from his mistakes then he is for all intents and purposes useless and devoid. I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and that he has been humbled

As for Watson, this could be all games but the GM and Owner have said they wil ot consider trading Watson and that the new HC took that team with the understanding the FO would not move Watson. In the end this could just be games to up the price. Because we all know when a player forces a trade that will lower the value some. However with him being so young and now the Stafford trade some teams will make crazy offers to land him.

It will be interesting to see if the FO will stand by their comments and if they do the back and forth fight between the FO and Watson could get ugly. Would Watson sit out the year and give up that money?

It doesn't set the base unless in every case there is a team trying to dump a terrible contract. If the rams didn't need to unload goff they aren't including an extra first round pick and maybe not even that third. Without the Goff contract dump, the offer probably would've been a first and third or fourth.

This does nothing for the Texans. Two firsts at a minimum was always the base for Watson, they can't argue Stafford got two firsts because he didn't, the other first came from unloading golf's contract.

The Rams paid a hefty price for a 32-old QB.  If they don't win a SB in couple of seasons, the deal will really look bad and can get some heads rolling.

One factor that made the deal is Rams need to unload Goff's rich contract.  Even then, a very rich price to pay for that unload.

Goff was the overall 1st pick, a spot before Wentz.  He too is in some kind of uncertain future.  Clearly, the Rams do not think Goff is their QB to bring home a SB.  It is Wentz's term to show if he deserves that #2 spot.

The Rams are still taking Goff's dead money hit so it doesnt matter. The salary base is not guaranteed so if the Lions dont want him they would just cut him the next day. Lions are taking a 17+ mill dead cap hit, Rams a 22+ mill hit.If the Lions didnt want Goff the Rams could have found another team to trade him to and take the same cap hit. I can bet another team would have taken Goff with all the teams looking for QBs.

I think if 7-8 teams were really making offers that there was a bidding war and Stafford would have landed still the two firsts. If it was only 2 teams, I dont think it would be as heavy. Maybe most teams feel the same as me that this QB draft class just sucks.

If Stafford is worth 2 1sts + a 3rd - whatever is the negative value of Goff, then Wentz is getting at least a one if we want to trade him.

I would trade #21 overall (Colts) for Wentz. IMO, a Wentz trade only happens if it's requested by Carson.

I wouldnt trade Wentz for anything this year.

He has played 1 bad year. We all knew Doug was a problem with his offenses struggling with both, Carson and Jalen. So why trade Wentz for a pick in a draft that is going to be the hardest draft to scout and project? One of the worst and uncertain QB draft classes in a long time?

Ive said this for months that Id rather see how Carson does with the new coach and a new system. Then if it doesnt work out so be it, move on in a year that we actually benefit cap wise with trading him. Will he be the 2017 Wentz? Prob not. But Id bet he would play better then he did in 2020 which would keep his trade value if you do decide to move on.

With one trade two veteran QBs are off the market (Stafford and Goff)  That realistically leaves: Watson, Wentz, Garoppolo, Winston?  If I'm the Colts I'm offering the Eagles their first round pick (21st) for Wentz because there is no way the Texans trade Watson inside their division.

Sam Darnold, Matt Ryan are names out there reported avail

Winston is  FA same with Mitch in Chicago.

Goff was easier to trade than Wentz will be, for the team trading Goff/Wentz. The Rams are only left with part of Goff's cap hit, while the Eagles would take on the entire thing no matter what. Not great when you're already ~$50M or so over the cap.

Not the same. The Eagles would be left with most of Wentz's cap hit in 2021. The team trading for Wentz isn't taking on an outrageous contract, though neither are the Lions really.

Goff's contract is worse than Wentz' for the acquiring team.

Goff
2021 - costs team acquiring him $27.5M = $25.0M guaranteed salary and $2.5M roster bonus, but $600k non-guaranteed salary.
2022 - $10.6M salary plus $15.5M roster bonus ... I don't know that they can get out of that.
2023 - free and clear if they choose

Wentz
2021 - $25.4M =  $15.4M guaranteed salary and $10M roster bonus
2022 - free and clear should they so choose

So, it really comes down to that 2022 salary/roster bonus for Goff if his contract is worse for the acquiring team.

I guess if there is a bright side about the off season it's we don't have to worry about our probowlers getting injured in a meaningless game.

Wow, we’ve never seen this amount of QBs available.  The NFL is changing.

The Rams are out of their minds. Stafford is definitely an upgrade over Goff but not to the point of giving up two firsts and a third. The Lions did extremely well in this trade.

We don’t have many pro bowlers to worry about.

The Lions could still acquire a QB at #7/trade up. That pushes a position player down to us and also makes trading out of 6 more attractive as teams will know that Detroit is open for business at QB.
