1st time in my remembered life I won't be watching the Super Bowl. Just no desire to see Brady play in another one or Andy win another one.

Yup I'm not even watching for the commercials this year.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

We don’t know where Wentz’s head is. Does he want to make this work? Does he want to stay with the Eagles? The Eagles need a clear, decisive answer from Wentz before they can make plans.

so they dont know, but we heard Albert Breer say he isn't happy based on Alberts opinion and nothing else, so we only use that as a headline AS CLICK BAIT. LMFAO

This is exactly why I loathe the current state of media, is this news to anyone? Is this worthy of him making money from this?  Him having a career doing this is like every kid getting a participation trophy for getting out of bed in the morning

. Like NO sheet shirlock, and all that matter is what Wentz and the Eagles are sating to each other.

If the Eagles aren't playing I barely watch the NFL

No offense you are speaking from your own perspective. The truth is, the social justice creeping into the game drove fans away, you can argue thats stupid, or racist if you want, but it still did just that.

Advertisers pay on the reach of the audience, what age groups, what demographics, and total numbers.  I can assure you as the total numbers go down, so will the advertising dollars.

I'm speaking as someone in the industry.

Did some fans leave? Of course. Did new fans enter? Yes.

Most importantly, it's not about total audience, it's about audience spend, audience growth and audience's preference to brand-switching. Younger people lean liberal, spend more on most advertiser products and are less brand loyal. That makes them more attractive to advertisers than someone who would be put off by any social justice message.

So total audience can go down, and advertisers can still make more money with this type of approach.

I'm not saying this is good/bad, but the biggest issues for sports leagues in 2020/2021 are Covid related (loss of tickets, concessions, merchandise, etc.)

Howie is going to draft an average starter at #6 and 3 years from now Afan will be posting about how that’s better than expectations for the spot.

So, you are predicting that Howie will improve on his recent performance.

Isn't that the truth?  I used to watch alot of football, but it has been choked back to just the Eagles.

Remember when the Super Bowl was about the game, a gathering, and the commercials.  This year is going to have too much special sauce for me and not enough of what made the SB great.

You are missing an important point.

Did some fans leave? Of course. Did new fans enter? Yes.   The issue is more left than came in. Ratings were down all year.

Agree to extent, it's about audience spend- demographics. and total numbers. While you are correct younger people tend to spend more, it will shift it's advertising dollars into different areas, and the overall number of people being reached is significantly less, so no it does not make up for it in total $$$ for advertisers.   I have read that 2020 had a 7% decline in viewership overall. And I am betting the SB will be lower than that.  If you think that wont impact their revenue from the TV market, then I cant help you. Supply and demand, THe demand is falling.

And it's 100% avoidable. It's one thing to promote unity, it's another to promote division.

Lets just look at it from a political stand point for one moment as an example: 74 Million people voted for Trump,  out of what 154 M total voters? when you as a business do something to alienate half of your customers (either way, those that strongly supported Biden or strongly supported Trump),  you are possibly losing 1/2 of your current customers or potential customers, and you will LOSE REVENUE as a result.  I never understand why businesses make that stupid decision. It's just dumb. As a business person, I know my best avenue is to be Switzerland and remain neutral as a company.

Sad but true.

This is untrue. More and more consumers want companies/brands to take stands, and support them with their wallets. This is especially true among younger consumers, who advertisers care about the most. Advertisers, of course, are what ultimately pay for the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc.

That's called a corporatocracy. Not a fan.

Is that the Jason Sudekis football mockumentary?  I saw one ad and thought, bring back Bob Bradley, all is forgiven!

Yup, it is.  IMO it's really funny.  One of the episodes was titled "It's The Hope That Kills You".  Guess up until 2017 that could have been applied to Eagles fans as well.

The Lions intended to trade Stafford.  They listened to offers and this was the best one.  Goff had nothing to do with it.

Arguably the better offer was from Carolina.  I do think trading for Goff means something because the Lions' GM was the scouting director at the time the Rams drafted Goff.

I used to watch the Eagles and whatever the other game on locally was plus the Sunday Night game, MNF and TNF.  I would plan Sunday around the NFL.  Watch the pregame stuff, watch the post game highlight shows.  I'm 39 and I've been an NFL fan since I was a kid.  The social justice stuff was it for me.  I stopped this year and only watched the Eagles games.  For the first time I didn't watch any other games.  Here's the thing.  I thought it would be torture and suck not watching football.  Only thing is, I didn't.  I started hobbies, hung out with people, worked on my house, did family stuff.  I didn't miss the other NFL games one bit and i have no plan to go back to my old viewing habits.

Yes, fans will be back in the stands but do we know for sure there will be sellouts?  Will stadiums ever be allowed to sell out again?  Most likely but who knows anymore with the reality we live in.  What I can tell you is that there are A LOT of fans like myself who watched all of those games regardless of who was playing who won't be watching again.  The NFL is losing fans and they will continue to lose fans who have no desire to come back.

It's sad because the NFL was such a great thing.

I don’t have much interest at all in the Super Bowl, but if I check the ticker and see that the Chiefs are way ahead in the 4th quarter I might turn it on, just to see Brady sulking

Honestly, in Football I haven't really noticed much social justice stuff. (They don't show the National Anthem anymore) I just don't have the passion to watch much outside of the Eagles and I'm just tired of Tom Brady.

I can't say that I mind the social justice stuff very much, if at all, but otherwise, I share your viewing habits. The political stuff is mostly overlaid with commercials anyway.

Maybe, I'm just saying I haven't noticed near as much stuff as say the NBA. I mean let's be honest I don't have a huge problem with guys wearing "stop hate" and "end racism" on their helmets. Kneeling for the national anthem, accusing teams of being racist because they chose a white head coach, not having people proper names on jerseys. To me that's a bit over the top and distracting.

I’m confused how the topic went to social justice issues when it’s obvious the cap is 100% Covid related, but the NFL doesn’t even talk about it much, and it doesn’t really impact anything on the field. Players have a saying on their helmet, oh no.

I am similar in that I used to watch more games, this year I watched the least amount of Football since the strike shortened season in the 80's.

I used to watch the pre and post games, watch some highlight shows, used to watch NFL network every morning (GMFB) I have watched zero of that stuff this year. ZERO. No pre, no post game, no NFL network shows. NADA, ZIP.

Mostly watched the Eagles games and a game or two here and there. Nothing like I used to. AT one point I would have multiple tvs running different games.

The cap has gone up every year, even when the kneeling was a hot button issue. You can choose if you want to accept that fact or not.

The stopped showing the NA because the SJ stuff was killing the NFL. To Start the season they had a big to do on SJ reform and had  2 different NA's , the regular one for all of us, and one for AA's  (I am mixed heritage, and I saw it as just divisive , and it was_) , thats why and when they stopped showing the NA.

Negotiating ploy.  My guess is they luxury tax this year or borrow against future caps.  When are the new TV deals?
