Hero to worms everywhere

Really thought we missed Chad Lewis in the SB. He helped us win the NFCCG, and broke his foot. We might have won with Chad and TO on the field.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The stopped showing the NA because the SJ stuff was killing the NFL. To Start the season they had a big to do on SJ reform and had  2 different NA's , the regular one for all of us, and one for AA's  (I am mixed heritage, and I saw it as just divisive , and it was_) , thats why and when they stopped showing the NA.

But viewership has declined, revenue declined, so you can choose to accept that fact if you wish.

I’m just saying that’s a logical fallacy. Just because both things happened around the same time does not mean they’re related.

Id argue the thing that caused most NFL teams to play in empty stadiums had a little more to do with the drop in revenue and view ship.

Negotiating ploy.  My guess is they luxury tax this year or borrow against future caps.  When are the new TV deals?

I can honestly see them going 'uncapped' with some regulation to it.  An in theory cap to prevent crazy spending...but relief for the half the league that's at the bubble.

Not sure if you're trolling, but viewership has been declining the past 3/4 years.  It's not a one off COVID thing bud.

Are people serious in here about Matt Stafford?  Talk about Washers.  The dude has been in the league for 11 years and has never won a playoff game.  His team has been stacked with weapons (minus a run game for the most part).  I don't want to hear about the rest of the team, the coaching, or the OL.  They were as good if not better than the Eagles for the past 2 seasons.  Homerun trade for the Lions.  Make Goff eat lunch in his car.

Enough to cause profits to drop drastically though? I think the NFL was fine to take a viewership hit in order to have a stance on the social issues, and it didn’t really affect them. Long term it may actually benefit.

Again, this year is a blip. We won’t officially know until Covid is over, but I’d wager that the NFL’s revenue is going to be fine.

Question, do you agree that Covid is a major factor in this equation? Cause if we can’t agree on that then this is kind of pointless.

Honestly, in Football I haven't really noticed much social justice stuff. (They don't show the National Anthem anymore) I just don't have the passion to watch much outside of the Eagles and I'm just tired of Tom Brady.

Agreed. I think there is an undercurrent, but it is mostly still just football.

I think what is happening is that fewer people are interested in devoting whole Sunday’s to football - and that’s a cultural shift for a lot of reasons, with social justice maybe being the kicker for some.

Just a guess here, but your bubble of friend and family is all fairly the same politically speaking.   I have a very large and diverse base of acquaintances/ Friends and relatives, even work colleagues. When the first weekend happened, my social media network lit up with calls of "I'm DONE with the NFL etc. Sirius NFL had tons of calls on the subject. If you live in a bubble, you were not aware of it, because the media was one sided on this.

And it's funny to me that you think that when fans cant go to the games and watch in person, that means that TV viewership will be down, I'd argue it should increase by about 800,000 fans a week who now HAVE TO WATCH IT ON TV.

Outside of Megatron, up until recently he hasn't had an OL, run game or a D supporting him.

What weapns? (legit question)

He's had a top 15 defense 1 year of the 11. 9 of the 11 they were 20th or worse lol.

He had Megatron for 4 years. Ok. But Golden Tate isnt a monster #1. Joiuqe bell LOL. 89 year old Adrain Petterson.

Golden Tate (their version that was put in the correct position), Calvin Johnson, Golladay, and Marvin Jones were all better than anything we've had since SB.  I'm guessing their 3rd and 4th guys were too without looking it up.

Contrary to popular belief, it takes more than just WRs to win in the NFL.

Nope. I have both Republican and Trump supporting friends/family. Though, antidotes really don’t have a place in the discussion.

The effect Covid has on viewership, in my opinion, is that Covid caused a lot of people to check out. We had big games that were played without star players and coaches, we had games postponed, and we have people who do not want to support the league forcing teams to play during the pandemic. How many of us didn’t believe the NFL season would play all 17 weeks? How many fantasy football leagues weren’t started up due to the instability of the league? Those things all affect viewership too.

Apples and oranges.  Talk of cap dropping is 100% on covid, but that doesn't negate the fact that the cap started booming because of TV deals signed before viewership started declining a few years ago.   It's also a shared revenue league, if it was ran like say baseball, we'd be singing different tunes looking at teams like LV, Arizona, Buffalo, Jax, LA Chargers, Carolina, Atlanta, Cinci, Houston, and Tenn.

Yeah I list stafford as a second tier QB. He is good enough to win you games, I would say he is slightly better than Nick Foles, because he is fairly consistent. He may not have Foles' highs, but he also doesnt have his lows.

I would agree he’s had WRs that are good his entire career. His OL for the better part of his 11 years has not been very good. And their running back situation was shaky as well. Kerryon Johnson was good for at year and fell off. Swift was good this year but Patricia was an idiot and didn’t use him until like halfway through the season then he had an injury and i believe covid. His WRs compared to the eagles have been spectacular. His OL and RBs mainly his entire career have been below average or bad. Like the eagles had it really bad this year that’s basically what he’s dealt with for much of his career.

Lol at the "I’m done with NFL comments” how many of those people cried that then crawled right back and watched NFL games this season?

Heck there were people on this very forum that said the same thing and yet they are still here.

Exactly.  The only difference is that Stafford never had the OL or the team around him to support him, right?  So confused as to what happened to the Eagles this year......and the last 2 if we wanna go down that path.

Sorry, this isn't anecdotal. You can choose to ignore the backlash if you wish. The NFL/networks chose not to ignore the backlash, which is why they stopped showing the NA.

You can try and rewrite history if you want, but you are only fooling yourself.

Yeah people sitting around at home with nothing to do, "lets NOT watch the NFL because of Covid". LMFAO.  You have to be a troll, you HAVE TO BE.

This sounds very familiar!  I'd agree we have had a much better run game (or the actual threat of a run game), but this season it obviously proved pointless since we didn't use it.

And that is not just an NFL issue.  Overall TV viewership, and people having cable and satellite declined during that same period.  There is also no true way to track NFL viewership accurately, people go to bars, go to their buddie's house who has season ticket, and there is tons of ways to illegally stream.

In the 2014-15 TV season, the five English-language broadcast networks drew a combined 35.8 million viewers in primetime, along with a 9.6 rating in the key ad-sales demographic of adults 18-49.

By fall 2018, the percentage of TV households with cable, satellite or telco service had fallen to 78 percent — roughly 93.5 million of 119.9 million total TV homes. Streaming services are now in almost three-fourths of all TV homes in the U.S.

In the Nielsen ratings for 2018-19, the broadcast networks averaged 28.5 million viewers in primetime, a decline of 7.3 million viewers (20 percent) since 2014-15. The drop-off among adults 18-49 was steeper, falling 35 percent to a 6.2 rating.

Posted something similar last night.  He's been in the league a decade.  He's had plenty of help around him but at some point, if you're an elite QB, you should carry a team.  He's done none of that.  The Lions got an absolute steal of a trade.

More competition for viewership coupled with social distancing and work from home are affecting ratings, I suspect.  No water cooler discussing of last night’s game   Bellwether fans aren’t gearing up at work because their work contact is zoom calls. Strong competition for viewers from the likes of the British Baking Championship.   Just look at the names sitting out Super Bowl advertising this year.

What are you talking about? Less fantasy football = less interest in other teams which means lower viewership. I guess this conversation if done then if all you have to say is "you’re a troll”. We tried.

Stafford top 10 QB, probably 10 but still.
