To me, the only thing Hurts brought to the table is the willingness to be a team guy and know his role.  I’m all for someone wanting to compete for the job — every professional should be geared that way, but when he gets asked who is the starting QB, and instead of saying it’s the guy with 5 years in the league where you have 4 games, he says "that’s a great question” twice?

That doesn’t wash for me.

Your preferred answer: "First of all, I want to take this opportunity to thank my 2 lords and saviors, Jesus Christ and Carson Wentz. I regret showing any positive traits in 2020, and will carry water for Mr. Wentz all next season."

On a serious note, your interpretation of what Hurts said is the very definition of reaching.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

That trade was almost certainly driven by Schwartz - he has always like "fastballs" on passing downs, and I seriously doubt Howie would make that trade on his own.

Problem was once Schwartz got him, he couldn't figure out how to use him, "Elephant", pass rushing LB, wide 9, obviously not a base defense guy.

Coaches make mistakes, Stoutland lobbied for Warmack for example.

Of course we are going to blame it on the guy who isn't here anymore.

Sure, and trading for Tate was Doug’s call too. Your defense of Howie is absurd.

Yep. They took a shot on a guy who had 4.5 sacks and 39 tackles as a rookie for a stinkin fourth round pick and it didn't work out. Everyone crying over it is exposing themselves. Apparently the Eagles would have drafted a sure fire all-pro with that fourth round pick in April as opposed to another Shareef Miller or Donnel Pumphrey.

A couple of things...

1) Avery may have flashed as a rookie (I was excited we traded for him until learning the price), but we are talking about a player who wasn’t even active for them in Year 2. To pay a 4 for that was a clear overpay from the beginning.

2) When you trade a fourth-round pick for a player, clearly you’re targeting that player for a role. He couldn’t even develop into a rotation piece. That’s really bad. It’s one thing to draft and miss on a fourth-round pick, but it’s another to miss on a player you trade a fourth-round pick for. A large part of the reason you trade the pick for a player is to mitigate risk.

As always, Howie makes the good choices and the bad ones are because he was just doing what the coaches wanted.

Why is it insane?  30 year old corner on a 4 win team who needs young talent.  He's not a part of the plans.  They can even let him walk next year if they want.

I'm gonna go on record and say that the Eagles record next year will surprise us pleasantly and by the following year we'll be contenders again.

The problem is we just keep hearing more and more reports about how Carson is unhappy. He wasn't happy with Doug so Doug got fired, now apparently he still isn't happy with the new coaching hires and it is believed he wants assurances that he is the starter? He wasn't happy that he was benched which just goes to show the lack of accountability he is willing to accept for the part he played in a poor season. Now we don't know how many of these reports are true, they could all be fake news and click bait but at some point I think we have to stop ignoring the smoke. At this point what are we hoping out of Wentz? I mean realistically that is. That he can turn things around and be a top 10-15 QB? That isn't going to be enough to make this team contenders, certainly not in the next couple of years.

cough, cough, BS, cough, cough. Wentz hasn't said a word. You have only your and others opinions about his happiness with anything. He's supposed to be happy he got benched? It's becoming very clear to me that you have an anti Wentz agenda.

As far as Hurts I have no problem with him saying he wants to compete for the starting position. I don't think he'll last long if he wins it, but I've been wrong before.

Cue...."well bud, what I have said for a long time is very very clear.  Carson was good in 2017 but not MVP good since he didn't win it, mostly bad in 2018 and 2019 and downright awful in 2020.  He can be good again but just not here. it might be different for me if he would have done a post season press conference because he owes it to the me to address the rumors so that makes it clear that he is unhappy because there is definitely fire with that smoke.  Can't ignore that.  And why didn't he greet the coach on Twitter like I think he was supposed to?   its amazing the lengths that you apologists will go to defend this guy.  And i can have an opinion."

I really hope you're right. Although another bad season might shock lurie into realizing his ish actually stinks

Random but the Chiefs will be missing both starting tackles on Sunday... if the offense still looks elite, it’ll make you wonder how important investing in OTs is.

Ever notice the people that don't like Wentz rarely post about anything but that. And it's the same thing over and over again. I'm for Wentz coming back and turning it around but I don't feel the need to post about it every chance I get.

Completely agree. Just playing smart foot ball would change the outcome of some of the games.  And since watching the coaching breakdowns of this past season, I have to believe just better game planning and play calling, along with better fundamentals and disciplines will gain us a few WINS.  Think of all the times the PR would wave off a kick at the 20 only for it to be downed inside the 10, or the number of times our KR came out of the end zone never making it to the 25. These are DUMB plays that cost you a ton of yards & field position.

Then add in Dougs inability to adjust his game planning/play calling to the strengths of the players available?  Or his loyalty to players like Peters and Alshon, when clearly Fulgham and Mailata were out playing them.  Or guts like Gerry and JJAW being on the field because well they can line up correctly.

The defense has to be able to create more turn overs than what we were able to last year. Something was a miss. At the same time decrease the number of turnovers from our offense even in half and we win the division this past season. To me that's coaching. We know Wentz can be really good at not throwing INTS, 2020 was his worst year, on a very bad team with bad coaching. It will improve.

On Offense:

The oline base is there to work with including some young guys, we will need to keep adding to it.

we have a group of young WR's who need to be coached up, we dont know if they can be good enough, but almost every wr we got here regressed or never improved under Dougs staff the past 2 years. Think about it, Aggy, JJAW,  even Fulgham got worse.  So how much is coaching and how much of it is we need better wr's to start with? we are gonna find out.

we have a good #1 RB, Need some good depth here, should be easy to add

Assuming Ertz is gone, Goedert is a pretty good TE, will need to figure out the depth behind him.

QB- I truly believe Carson's issues were he lost confidence in the OLINE, his WR's and more importantly, his HC/Play caller. I think that all can be addressed and we will see a much improved Wentz. Hurts is actually a very good #2 QB and better suited for that role of coming in off the bench in case of injury for a game or two.

On Defense :

The Dline will be tricky as we have some youth, but also some AGE and $$$ - this will take a hit as a group. It was our strength if we had one in 2020

LB's - we have youth here, dont know of they can play, my guess is we will be adding some via draft and FA who fit what we want to do.

DB's- Slay is still here, I know people rag on Mills, but he is a nice swing player to have, McCloed is here. Need a few pieces.

If we are not any better in 2021- we choose the wrong coaching staff.

That will be interesting in watching. It is after all a team game.

back in the day I used to stand in line at the grocery store and wonder who bought those tabloid mags, well, these guys subscribe to the same type of gossip and sensationalism........ They might as well be starting with "well the National Inquirer said this about Wentz"

I don’t disagree with your point he could have done that and it would’ve reflected better. However I also looked on Twitter to see what players said anything. The vast majority of the Eagles said nothing. Legitimately I checked 25 players who were starters or key cogs on the Eagles. I only saw lane Johnson and Alex Singleton say anything.  I feel like this is a witchhunt to just pile on because certain people have agendas and can add onto Carson Wentz is this and that which has come out recently

If you talk about being a team leader, then it can push you into areas like this.  I don't blame Carson for saying nothing, but keeping in mind the "leaks" to the media from around him towards the end of the season, I am sure some fans are now thinking, now you stay quiet.

The irony is, if Grayland Arnold was overly effusive about the hire, the same fans would be calling him a kiss ass.

It's social media, in a nutshell.

Here is what Carson had to say about playing for the Eagles the last time he talked.

Carson Wentz on his future with the Eagles

What do we consider a contender?  Winning the NFC East with 8-9 wins?  I wouldn't be surprised if they put together a decent season.  So much depends on Carson.  I still think they are in rebuild mode.  Of course we'll have a better idea after the draft and FA to see what the actual team is going to look like.

If Rick Rodgers is ok with a 2 year team friendly deal, I say we sign him as our #2 TE.  Goedert will be the #1 and Ertz can be traded.

I'd be perfectly fine with Dick Rod back on a 2- year deal.  I do wonder if Trey Burton will be an option.  I believe both are the same age and will probably be a wash either way.

I guess Trey Burton would be a nice back up also but he is soft as a pillow.  He was scared to play the Eagles in a playoff game as a Bear because it brought back memories of the Super Bowl run and made him anxious.  He also has a lot of soft injuries he does not seem to play through.  But if he is cheap, I guess he wouldn't be a bad option.

In what universe does that make sense?

Bold strategy cotton let’s see if it pays off

If your the Texans do you call the Bluff? Thats a lot of $$$ thats hes risking. Do you let a player with his talent go? They did move on from Hopkins and the neg effect it had.

On the other hand do you want a player on your team that feels that strong against your organization? That can kill a locker room even worse.
