Carson doesn't process the field quickly enough to throw accurately and on time.  Therefore he has to play "backyard hero ball" in order to be effective.  Now that his athleticism is obviously diminished, he's not good enough to pull it off.  He never had the ability between the ears to be a Brady, Montana, Brees type.

So now he's basically a white RG3.

I think you completely misunderstand his mindset.  Athletically, he's the same as he was before his ACL.  It's not impacting his play.  He reads the field well for the most part.  He struggles with accuracy because of mechanics and in that sense would have to put in significant work to become a Brady or Brees.  His problem is that he believes he is capable of winning games by making incredible plays.  He also believes he has to make these plays in order for the team to be successful.  I mean that was the formula for 2017.  The bigger issue is the team talent is not up to the task. I mean they would have easily won 2 or 3 more games last season if his receivers could have caught passes.  He had no talent around him.  It took McCown getting in his ear to get him to understand how he needed to change the way he played.  That's the disconnect.  He didn't trust any of the "coaching" he was getting.  He then reverted to these bad habits and again the talent wasn't around him. I mean not only was the team just as bad at the receiver position but it was significantly worse on the o-line.

This is why he can be successful again and will if he's put in the right situation and will listen to coaching when his instincts are leading him towards bad plays.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

it's funny you'll believe the stories about foles and bradford trade rumors from the same sources but when it comes to wentz, it's nah you are liars and making stuff up.

What are you talking about?

Completely agree with this analysis. Unfortunately it will most likely fall on deaf ears. The team was Historically bad, Wentz did not trust his Oline, nor his WRs, and eventually didn't trust his coaching or play calling. (I mean 55 passes to 9 runs when your oline is in shambles and you have 0 wr's...smh...) I dont blame him, and I agree I think you can fix wentz, but you have to fix the coaching and the team along with him.

Right, if he is kept on the roster, there is no additional hit because the roster bonus is paid, it's already factored in. I was referring to a trade before the bonus is paid vs a trade after the bonus is paid. That's when his dead cap number would change.

Well he would never be traded after the 3rd day of the league year, so for ease of explanation I was not including that scenario as it would not happen.

Regardless, Carson Wentz will be on the roster March 21st, so the whole discussion is kind of dumb anyways.

Jeff Lurie is about appearances, and is not going to want to deal with the optics of the biggest dead cap hit in NFL history.

There is nothing that has happened so far that should lead anyone to believe that Carson will not be here.  Doug was fired, Frank Reich Jr was hired.

You proceeded to make an entire post about how Carson refuses to follow coaching.  Then you end with "he can be successful again.... if he will listen to coaching".

The mental gymnastics required to defend this guy lol.

100% this.  How could you trust a coaching staff with a 25:75 run pass ratio in the last 4 games you started.  How can you trust a coaching staff that called 6 designed roll outs over those same 4 games, when it is one of the strongest parts of your game.  How can you trust a coaching staff that thinks running flanker screens to Greg Ward is going to fool anyone.

the only way wentz actually gets traded in my mind would take one of 3 scenarios

1) Wentz wants out so badly, he restructures his deal.... Only reasonable way I see him leaving, I give this about a 10% chance.

2) A team wants Wentz so badly they dont care what it will cost in picks & cap money - this one the wentz haters would laugh at, yet think somehow it will happen?  I give this 5% chance

3) The Eagles want rid of Wentz so badly, they eat the bad cap money  which will derail the next 2 seasons at the very least. Let alone leave them needing to find the next franchise QB. AInt likely  I give this a 5% chance

so I think there is about a 20% chance in total he gets traded.

on a different note, I am anxious to see how different our defense looks with a lot of the same pieces. I know Schwartz is well respected, sometimes it was head scratching though. Example would be the Superbowl, we literally made one stop the whole game where they didn't at least line up for a FG attempt. ONE STOP.  500+ yards

Apparently Sirianni interviewed Colts assistant Jerrod Johnson, a former Eagles QB, for the QB coach before hiring Brian Johnson.

Can’t believe he didn’t interview press Taylor. Doug thought so highly of him that he should be an OC

I think our secondary will play and look better under Gannon. I'm excited to see what they'll look like week 1

He actually could rework it, it could be lowered.  How bad does he want out?

No he can't. Not with the Eagles. There is nothing that can be done to lower his dead cap that would facilitate a trade.

I'm not defending him at all.  I think he should have fixed his issues this season.  I think he was needlessly stubborn and wrong.  I never said he didn't "refuses" to follow coaching.  I said he didn't trust the coaches.  He listened to McCown because he trusted him.  He's not a fool. He's a rightfully skeptical about a FO and coaching staff that has repeatedly failed him.  The coaches are now gone but the FO is still in place.

I think the argument that he's never seen the field well and doesn't process isn't what is happening.  I think if you compare Wentz to Foles you see some of the same inconsistencies.  At times, Foles seems unconscious in terms of his throws and decision making.  At times, he seems completely at a loss.  It's not a fair assessment of Foles to say he doesn't see and process the field well.  I think it's fair to say that his decision making fails because he doesn't trust what he's seeing. Foles can read defenses and look for open receivers but he's prone to making bad decisions and to not accurately make passes.
