When all is said and done....what is the worst Howie draft pick? I submit 3:

Marcus Smith

Pumphrey

Hurts

Depends. If hurts winds up being a franchise QB it isnt going to be. However if hurts winds up being mediocre or not good and on top of that you deal wentz elsewhere where he has success (which frankly this entire situation started with that selection) then it’s going to be hurts.

If hurts fails to be what they thought and if they deal wentz and that blows up in their face it’s the type of thing that gets a GM fired. But since it’s howie he likely gets an extension

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Yea that’s been the odd part of the reporting over the last day or so. It had been portrayed as if it was only Carson that wanted out; now, these new reports make it seem that the Eagles want out too (or at least are actively drumming up business to accommodate Carson).

This is even more hilarious, the reports I here are they Hired SIrianni to work WITH WENTZ. But lets go with your conspiracy theories.

I believe the Eagles want to trade Wentz.  Maybe he indicated he wanted to be gone, maybe not.  But if the reports are true that the Eagles said they have received "aggressive offers" then they are shopping him.  Why else would they phrase it that way?  If they wanted to keep him, they would not float the story about aggressive offers or any offers for that matter.  They are trying to drive the price up.

Biggest cap hit in NFL history. Howard J. Roseman is a clown.

Alright, feeling eternally like the overused Al Pacino line  .... Thought I was out, they pull me back in ...

Unless the deal is with Jacksonville, what possible reason or motivation would the Eagles have to deal him this early?

I think they have until 2 days into the new league year until a large chunk of his salary is guaranteed. I also think there is something that if they get the trade off before that point then after this season there is no longer a cap hit for him.

If they Trade Wentz, and we dont get a franchise qb to replace wentz on the first try, while wentz goes on to resurrect the career they killed, man oh man, everyone involved will never live that down. It will be brought up, time and time again.  they will literally become the browns.

I have almost zero interest in watching a Jalen Hurts led Eagles. Thats a disaster waiting to happen.

Nah, can't steal the SB thunder.

This has been Lowie's plan since Game 8 of the season.

The aggressive part is definitely someone from the eagles putting it out there. they likely are trying to drive up the value/market. Frankly tells me they either aren’t getting the offers that they consider worth it to them and trying to get teams to ante up more or create their narrative that wentz is still really coveted around the league

I think it's hilarious you KNOW he doesn't want to be here, yet he nor his agent have told us or the Eagles he wants to be traded.

Until that happens he is most likely coming back, despite your wishcasting.

I'm on board with a trade at this point because it's more fun to think about how Howie will mess up the draft picks, convince myself they were all right, then realize by game 4 the picks sucked, than to worry about Wentz is looking in camp vs. Hurts.

Or they are getting aggressive offers, and are paving the way to break it to the fan base, "it was too good an offer we couldn't refuse"

Same honestly. But I will hoping that he is somehow the next Russel Wilson

I think the general frenzy comes from a misunderstanding of the NFL.  If you think Goff and Wentz ( and Tim Couch for that matter) are interchangeable parts of the McDonald's system of a billion served, then sure deal him for a couple of orders of Fries and a Shamrock Shake to be named later.

Haha what? You’re my new favorite poster

If the Saints and Patriots are calling about Carson and making "aggressive” offers then that tells you all you need to know if he is fixable or not. I wanted to keep him and believe he can get back to the 2017 form but if he doesn’t want to be here then it won’t work.

A true Eagle's fan response

Watch him go to the Pats and win 5 more superbowls for them.

then why did you take it there?

Oh yes, of course, it’s because Hurts wears an earring right? Oh maybe it’s because he’s short? Please.

I just want to get through this phase in our society.

HE NEVER MENTIONS LURIE!!!!

He by proxy mentions all 32 teams but no, not directly.  My point is although he mentions the great increase in minorities in lower positions, that’s not good enough, only the coordinators, HC and GM.  My point is that coaches are developed and pointed out those coming through Philly.   I disagree with him a bit.  Next DC candidate from our current crop of coaches may well be Wilson and the next OC candidate may be Johnson. But he views a ceiling that doesn’t seem to be there and presumes a quota based on player race ratios which is judging by the color of skin not the quality of the character and skill set an individual  brings to the job.  Like MLK Jr. suggested, I dream of a day when the coaching or GM hire is looked at for what they bring to the table, not by what race they are.

We saw a lot of judging performance and skill set in here. Not wanting McDaniel because folks are not convinced he was the offensive mastermind behind Tom Brady’s Patriots.  Not wanting Undlin because of the failure of his D, being concerned about Bienemy because of Nagy and Pederson.   I believe that NFL owners, GMs and HCs are taking the same approach and picking the best candidates.  There is some hiring by HCs that track people they have experience with and that is not a surprise.  As more and more minority coaches are part of those coaching trees, we will see more minority coordinators and then HCs. Look at the paths that most coordinators and HCs took to get where they are today.

Heck, look at the path Tony Dungy. DB coach to DC, back to DB coach to DC and finally to HC.  Same course the Gannon and Wilson are on. Similar to the type of path Sirianni is on (Tony got there quicker, possibly because he was a NFL player.).

Hurts isn't the answer. Just isn't. He will give you a team stuck in mediocrity, good enough to win you 8 games, bad enough to never really be in contention. With him, you will Never be in a position to draft the next franchise QB because you will always be drafting in the middle of the rds

Franchise QB's are way to hard to find and be in a position to get.

Guys like Rodgers, Brady, Mahommes, are way to few in the league and I have 0 faith Howie can and will find anything better than what wentz will be with decent coaching and a decent team around him.

I think he's getting traded and we will see what they get in compensation.  I can't imagine the team accepting less than a first round pick but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a 2022 pick.  There's an advantage in accepting a 2022 1st round pick as it gives them a year to try out Hurts and ammunition to move up in the draft if Hurts doesn't look great.  Of course, it also means they are likely passing on a better prospect this season.  I could see an advantage to trading down this season and accumulating a better foundation to build on in 2022.

Why? Clearly, he doesn’t want to leave and the Birds don’t want to trade him. The media is making all this up, remember?

Count me in.  Cross your fingers that there is more there than he has shown in the past 5 seasons.   I just find it hard to imagine that Howie overdrafted him and then hit on the pick.

That’s what I brought up a couple days ago. I think lurie and howie look at the potential optics. I don’t think they take it lightly. if that does occur, they are not going to be like who cares then if you think they wouldn’t care then you are sadly mistaken. That is something that gets carried with you for the rest of your ownership tenure and howie’s career. That’s not something either of them will just be able to nonchalantly not care about. that would be a bad business decision that follows you for the rest of your general manager career and ownership. The majority of the city/fan base would never let them live that down.

Just think there's this almost 20 freaking year MCNABB hangover effect.

Used to be college's copied the NFL. Copied the offenses and so on. It's the reverse.

If you've got 4 kids on your roster who can play QB, you're stronger, not weaker.  This whole "Highlander" there can be ONLY ONE! ,  One ring to rule them all nonsense?

It's not 2021 . All I'm saying.

Haha I don’t think anyone knows what you’re saying
