What benefit is there for us to trade Wentz? Even for a 1st round pick(likely mid to late). That means we likely have to use the 6th pick on a QB. That leaves the mid to late first to bolster the team. We wouldn’t benefit from the cap savings of having the QB on a cheap deal since we’re going to have to eat Wentz cap hit. Might save a bit of money 2022/2023 then we would have to extend him.

So the equation becomes would you rather have:

1. Wentz and 6th overall pick to make team better

2. Rookie QB and mid-late first round pick to make team better

I don't trust Howie to draft the next franchise QB if they got rid of Wentz

He thinks he's the smartest in the room and would take a project

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Wentz's problem wasn't a "dysfunctional organization," it was a combination of playing behind 11 OL combinations in 12 games and a HC who wanted to install a deep strike offense build around the RPO behind that OL. That FO drafted Dillard and Driscoll and Mailata because they saw the all pro OL age and tried to be pro-active - sometimes crap happens. And when they fired the egomaniac HC, they gave the top OL coach a big money extension. This season would have looked different with Dillard at LT, Driscoll at RG, and Mailata at RT.

Injuries were a big problem with skill people as well, while you might have predicted DeSean going down at some point, Sanders, Ertz, Goedert missed 14 games and were hobbled for another half dozen, Reagor missed 5 games, and so on. And the HC did little to scheme his young WRs open.

The other problem is I agree with the observation that Schwartz checked out this season, and the defense cratered. The only other Eagle defenses that gave up 400+ points were 2012 and 2015, and this defense had Cox, Graham, Hargrave, Barnett, McLeod and Slay - simply no excuse for playing that bad.

Wow, hope its not serious

I agree. Just look at since 2010 who they have tried to make a consistent franchise QB and even groom to be a competent backup.

vick— one great season

kolb— lol

vince young— wasn’t even a competent backup

foles— was a good backup/fringe starter

Wentz— traded and clearly they don’t think he’s a franchise QB as they’d trade him away

bradford— fringe starter

clayton thorson— lol

hurts— jury out

sudfeld— did nothing but lurie thinks is unstoppable

That clearly is just on Schwartz checking out. Not the offense continuously turning it over giving poor field position like wentz pick, hurts fumble or sanders fumbling the ball on his second carry against the Rams on the opposite side of the 50. Or having a secondary that lost mcleod and had slay injured at times and guys like Jacquett starting...

Wentz has now taken down that he's the QB for the Eagles from his Twitter.

Going to be an interesting time in Philly one way or another.

The only bad pick was Kolb, just got the yips and never recovered. That was AR's guy (2007).

Vick was a cheap pickup as McNabb's backup. Got great value out of him.

Young was a cheap backup.

Foles did fine for #88. You're not drafting starting QBs at that point in the draft - (Tannehill #12, Weeden #22, Osweiler #57, Wilson #75).

Bradford was a Chip move, with a 5th for a 2nd, 4th, and Foles. Howie then flipped him for a 1st rd pick. And picked Foles back up.

Thorson was a 5th rd pick, 90% fail rate for QBs at that point in the draft. Sudfeld was a waiver wire pickup.

But I was told it's easy to find backup QBs who can win games, so why draft one?

I think you are mistaking it with IG. He has Qb on there but i never paid attention enough to if it said eagles QB before or if has been QB

Jacquet starting after Schwartz gave up on Douglas and Jones.

No, it was definitely his Twitter. I saw the IG remark so I went to check and it simply said QB with no mention of the Eagles. I refreshed and it was back. Could just be a weird coincidence.

Yes

So I was just reading about it. Yeah, that's Andy's son, and there's at least one child seriously injured. Apparently he's being investigated for driving under the influence.

Young was a cheap backup (I thought it was a waste to draft a backup QB?).

They traded kolb because they thought Vick was better and a franchise QB as they paid him like one after 2010. They paid him a massive contract to be a franchise QB after they dealt kolb. That too was a fail outside of 2010 he wasn’t close to worthy of the contract they gave him.

Also i agree 90% fail rate but I’d bet a good portion of them at least make it through the entire training camp and preseason before being cut.

again haven’t they still haven’t drafted a franchise QB or developed one since dealing mcnab. if we assume wentz is based off if they deal him or he just flat out fails.  And heck you don’t think mcnabb is a franchise QB. So they haven’t drafted one in the last 20+ years with your view on mcnabb.

Or because jones couldn’t stay healthy just like what happened in Jacksonville this year. And douglas wasn’t a scheme fit and was regressing every year.

I don't think they will use the 6th pick on a QB. Unless they think they're special. I hope they don't because I don't think anyone but Lawrence is special in this class. Just roll with Hurts.

I've said before, you can't be afraid to wait for the right moment to get a QB in the NFL. Teams who rush it screw it up. You don't have to take a QB just because you don't have one. You take one because you think they can be elite. That sounds like a novel concept, but I don't think many teams stick to that logic. I do think some owners and GMs feel the heat, are desperate and mandate their team takes a QB early, even if they don't think they're great, and hope they turn out to be good. That's how you wind up with Christian Ponder and Haskins and Daniel Jones, etc.

If I'm the Eagles I'd be perfectly willing to build up my team and when the right opportunity to grab a QB you feel can be elite strikes, you go after them. We'll have our chances, I don't expect the Eagles to be good for quite a while.

I know someone brought up IG but I’m pretty sure he didn’t have eagles QB on IG and it really wasn’t trending. I feel like that’s something everyone would lose their mind over on Twitter

I don't think it was there to begin with. He still has the profile picture in Eagles. If he was removing Eagles mentions from his account why keep the Eagles picture?
