If the trade talks are Wentz-driven and not Eagles-driven, the most logical answer is job/contract security.  Wentz wants to be someplace where he is the unquestioned starting QB and the Eagles are not making him that promise.

It’s not an issue of an open competition in training camp — Wentz would likely win that.  It’s a combination of players going to Doug and telling him to get Hurts in there, the media undermining his abilities, him being the fall guy for all the organization’s failures, and most importantly — the risk that the Eagles walk away from his contract at the end of this season.

This is mostly business, and I think his agent is steering him somewhat.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

i am worried he sneaks into the late first. Zaven Collins too (to a 3-4 team) seems ideal for olb in that scheme

would love to get the UNC kid Surratt in the third if he is there. after 3rd round i really dont see much at LB

Chaz Surratt fits the Eagles linebacker mold.  6-3 230.  I love the way he plays.  Pretty incredible to go from starting at UNC at quarterback to a playmaking linebacker.  Would love to see him on the team.  Late 1st-3rd is where you're going to find good linebackers in this draft.

I went from born and raised in Philly, to Unionville Chadds ford ,to chestertown MD, I have a place in Mt pleasant SC, I visit handful of times each year, plan on retiring there.

I am at home this week taking care of my wife after a major surgery.  Turned on ESPN for some background noise, took 5 minutes to realize why I don’t watch a lot of ESPN.

Marcus Spears says that Brady winning a Super Bowl at 43 is the most impressive win by a QB ever.  Debatable, but certainly not an over the top opinion.

Then the idiot Max Kellerman responds the Eli’s two wins over Brady are the most impressive wins by a QB in history.  What an idiot.

You dont ask for the moon either , it's a non starter ,you have to be realistic if you wish to be taken seriously .

If your idea is to move the player than you start reasonably high. But if your mindset is that you really don't want to move the player then they have to pry them away from you. In that case ask for the moon - someone might say yes - and then you will really be in trouble.

I really like Surratt too.  I think he's a leader and just a smart football player.  There's the kid from ND, Owusu, that's  likely a late first round pick. There's Bolton from Missouri who's also ranked as a late first/2nd round type target.  I could see one of them getting pushed down because of how many QBs may go in the first.  I also think KC will lean towards o-line/d-line and Tampa isn't going to pick a LB.  The problem is that Howie will not want to invest in LB given the Davion Taylor pick last season and play of Singleton.

pulled off a trade back to see what could happen - premium price ws offered:

May be some messages have been sent to Wentz.  While I still think Hurts was picked because in five seasons Carson has finished two, one of which he may not have if he wasn’t benched, it is possible that Hurts and the benching were also a message against his stubbornness to accept coaching.  The QB factory too, May have been a barbed comment, but I chalk it up to Howie justifying another poor assessment pick. That said, I think the message sent with this whole trade rumors thing is that the Eagles value Wentz but he is not greater than the team.  The whole QB competition statement was appropriate for all jobs that have not yet been won by any player with the new coach and a message to Carson that to earn that spot, he has to put the work in.  The whole rumor treadmill was an exercise is gauging worth on the market and showing Carson is valuable but expendable too.  Maybe your statement above should add, "be prepared to work your ass off to be better and  if you are better, to win the starting job.   Message to Hurts is, Carson is not guaranteed the position so get better because there is a competition ahead.

I think that was a reason that played into it. I think howie began souring on wentz. Was a reporter that i posted the tweet (2 days ago in response to manu who had a tweet that tied in) who said that was the case at the end of last year. The giving of the contract might have been also pushed by lurie and howie who lets remember had joe banner here for years.  banner’s way was always get a contract done earlier rather then wait if you believed in the player cause you can get better value then waiting til he gets closer to FA and the end of the contact. I’m guessing lurie and howie at that time believed it was the smart thing to do to get value on the contract and believed wentz would be what he was in 2017 more so then 2018 with a fractured back coming off an ACL. If they bet correctly that wentz would the contract looks like a great value. Only problem is wentz didn’t so it looks awful in hindsight

What would you rather have?

-blockbuster for Carson where some team pays 2 1st round picks and a player

-or-

-Howie is fired tomorrow and Carson remains on the team

Howie fired all day.

We are not having this discussion if Metcalf and Jefferson are the picks.

We are not having this discussion if we take the Browns offer for Foles and draft Nick Chubb or Darius Leonard.

We are not having this discussion if the EMB voted for draft picks instead of Howie having final say.

It could be as simple as this? Carson: "Hey guys I'm not happy with the way things are going here lately and would like to be traded." Lowie: "We'll see what's out there but if we don't get any reasonable offers you'll be here competing for the job next year." Or it might not be that at all.

I wonder if much of the problem with Wentz is cultural, while he'd never say it, if he's a Christian Fundamentalist (like my in-laws from the Midwest) he can't feel that comfortable in Philly.

He won't fit in Chicago, but could live an hour or two out of town and fit in, while in Indiana, he's par for the course.

So it wouldn't shock me if now that he has a family he wants his kids raised in a more conservative environment.

I doubt that is a huge issue. Roger Staubach was on the drug crazed, partying cowpads and did just fine. Wentz has a farm in rural east Texas. Most players don’t live full time where they play. Church is everywhere, you just have to look for it.   Plenty of religion in Philly.  Go west or north of the city.

My families grew up in the Dakotas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.  Lot of Lutherans, Methodists, Catholics and such. Here in the German townships in York County, he would feel right at home.  Wentz is either a German or Slavic name.

B.  Also develop some duck hunting trails near the Novacare to appease Wentz 🙂

 CBS's current prospect ratings.  I know people are high on Waddle but # 7 overall over Smith Paye and Pitts? Someone explain that to me.

Well this explains why you’ve been incorrigible over the last week or so:P

Hope everything is well.

There’s no ducks near the novacare center since chip left and took them all with him....

Yeah, been a little stressed.  My points still stand, my delivery probably a little over the top.

My prediction for this year's draft, Howie trades down at least once to add more picks, and maybe trades a couple players for picks. This draft will be about reshaping the roster for the new coaching staff, who'll get a lot of input with regard to players they think can be coached up. We already see that with Stoutland. What I think they'll look for after the first couple rounds (where it will be BPA):

RB - power back to complement Sanders, Siri will run the ball more than Doug

WR - Siri has a lot of success with big WRs with average speed, look for late round/UDFA WRs fitting this mold to go with Reagor, Watkins and Hightower

TE -  look for a "Celek type" late round/UDFA, they've already loaded up on H-backs, and JJAW might get moved there

OL - anything Stoutland wants, Stoutland gets

DL - will probably be a standard 4-3 with the "3" the key player, Cox/Hargrave, will draft for depth this year

LB - Leonard was a key player, Gannon will probably evaluate Bradley/Taylor for WLB, but LB will be a higher priority than Schwartz

CB - looking for Seattle types, long with average speed to replace our "smurfs"

S - not sure what they'll be looking for here, Colts played two high safeties so SS types probably don't fit

Look for Gannon to bring some of the Colt defense here.

Jaylen Waddle has elite speed. He profiles very well at the next level. I'm not saying we should draft him, but if Ruggs can go 12, so can Waddle.

Another day with no Wentz trade.
