Still feels like this thing is gonna drag out. Howie seems dead set on getting a Stafford return because he's been emasculated that his reputation has been damaged and he lost his last few trades. This is all about him committing highway robbery so he can puff his chest out.

IMO. Yes, I think he's that petty.

I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

The obvious compromise is a conditional future pick.  If Carson gets "fixed" the pick is high.  If he continues to ish the bed the pick is lower.  A 1st now and a conditional pick (3rd to 1st?) later and let's get it done.

How could Howie "overplay" his hand? The alternative is to take a bad offer.

He knows he's not getting a Stafford deal b/c Stafford wasn't worth what the Rams paid. But it's an anchor for negotiations (if the Rams will pay that much for a 32 year old QB with no upside, you should pay that for a 28 year old QB who has MVP upside b/c he's done it). You don't bid against yourself by starting low.

But he also knows that Indy wants to lowball him, knowing that Wentz might discourage other suitors, so he has to both convince Indy that other teams will take their chances with a disgruntled Wentz and/or he's willing to hold on to Wentz if he doesn't get a decent offer.  A 1st with the Eagles 2nd going to Indy is not a decent offer.

It's poker, if Howie blinks he'll be taken to the cleaners. His reservation price is probably a late 1st, a 3rd, and maybe another minor asset (player or later round pick).

Kind of funny that the washers think that Howie has unrealistic expectations for what Wentz is worth

Way I see it he is just acting like a pro. I believe in "robbery" when i see it. The teams just thought they'd get Wentz for free, and now that there are more teams interested, it takes time to play them against each other. But that ain't petty, it's the job of every GM.

The way I'd look at it is that there are like 10 different holes that need to be filled and will have to be done so in consecutive drafts. Comparing a CB, S, OL, LB in the first 3 rounds that can be drafted instead of a RB. Draft his replacement when he is a FA and let him walk. So, it's more like avoiding the opportunity cost of having to bring in another viable RB now.

You don't fill every hole with the first three rounds of the draft.(unless you're TB and you've been drafting high for a decade).

Most top teams are a mix of high draft picks, FAs, late round picks, UDFAs and SFAs.

This is why player development is key, every low cost player you obtain by turning a late round pick, UDFA or SFA into a starter or top reserve frees up resources to obtain other players.

In fact, one reason we're in the current hole was the lack of these guys on the 2017 team, Kelce 6th rd  2011, Mills 7th rd 2016, Vaitai 5th rd 2016, Celek 5th rd 2007, Allen 7th rd 2014, Smallwood 5th rd 2016, Walker 7th rd 2016, Burton UDFA 2016.

2020:  Edwards UDFA 2019, Herbig UDFA 2019, Singleton SFA 2019, Mailata 7th rd 2018, Pryor 6th rd 2018, Ward UDFA 2018, Fulgham SFA 2020, Epps SFA 2019, Scott SFA 2018, Opeta UDFA 2020, Jacquet UDFA 2020, Bradley 6th rd 2020, Toth UDFA 2020, Williams UDFA 2020

Usually these guys make their impact in their 2nd and 3rd seasons, due to injury some got experience as rookies.

So next year look for a few out of Huntley, Hightower, Watkins, Burnett, Butler, Jackson, Toth, peta, Juriga, Williams, Ostman, Bradley, Smith, Bachie, Jacquet, James, Hill, Houston, Arnold, Epps, Riley to step up. Most will end up gone in a couple years, but if you can just fine 3-4 "hidden gems" a year, starters, top reserves and key ST guys, you can quickly revamp a roster. They become the guys who surround your stars - you have to be really lucky to land a Kelce or Mailata.

Also why the hell would we want a RB if were in a rebuild and wouldn't even have him on his rookie deal once we are ready to compete?

Howie is playing 4 d chess.

Honestly, as much as I liked DP - giving players a shot that looked good was never his kind of thing. Really hope NS will be better at that.

Where do people come up with this ridiculous crap?

Howie is going to drag it out b/c his job is to maximize the return if he's forced to move Wentz. Pure and simple.

He probably couldn't give two hoots about his "reputation," he can just flash his SB ring in the eyes of his "football guy" detractors like Riddick. Winning is the best revenge.

He knows he's not getting a Stafford return, because there aren't enough stupid GMs out there, but he uses that as a starting point for negotiations, because it's prima facie evidence that at least one GM is that stupid. But he's certainly not settling for the equivalent of a late 2nd rd pick.

I wonder how the Gorilla Glue lady is doing.  Can't believe people are actually sending her money.

I don’t think it is petty. I said this at the end of last week the eagles don’t have to make the move today or tomorrow or this week. If you don’t love the offer then wait and see how the market plays out after a couple of more days and potentially weeks. They don’t need to make a deal until the new league year. Can say well the bears and colts could get QBs and they are up s***s creek. However it also could play out the bears and colts miss out on QBs and become more desperate. It’s the ultimate game of chicken you just hope you are on the right side of it.

The chances of him getting less in future are greater than the chances of him getting more.

As stupid as it was, I think the Gorilla Glue folks offered to help after they Tweeted it’s definitely not a hair product, lol.    TBF, I would of helped the old woman who was burned by the McDonald’s coffee, 3rd degree burns are no joke, but neither is 180 degree coffee especially since that McDonalds was warned a few times to turn down the temperature.

It's Juan Castillo all over again!!

Sarcasm.

As bad as trading a potential franchise QB is, the only thing worse is trading that QB for a RB

If all he can get right now is a late 2nd, why not wait? What's the downside?

Hell, for a new HC, a QB competition can send a message to his team that no one is guaranteed anything coming off a 4-11-1 season.

Hmm, maybe he'll break out the ole blocking sled!

Then you don't trade him. It's just that simple. Just because you want him gone doesn't mean they're gonna give him away.

I think he can get more than a late 2nd. I think a 1st is on probably the table.

The downside is Wentz is coming off an awful year, his market will be limited, and if these teams move on and get other QBs their leverage is gone and their return will decrease significantly. We are incredibly lucky if a team offered a 1st at all.

The Eagles still have Duce as the RB coach on their website.

I wouldn't expect anything anytime soon.

There is a middle ground. Not getting a Stafford caliber return doesn’t mean you’re giving him away. If the best offer is a 4th rounder, I’d agree with that, but I find that highly unlikely. A 1st is probably on the table. That’s a more than generous compensation.

Or Duce is working for the lions and eagles. Double duty.

That is one scenario. Another one is teams getting more desperate as QBs go to different places and the price increases.
