I turned 38 today and have lost 52lbs since February. I’m very rarely ever proud of myself, but I’m feeling pretty proud today and thought I’d share. Carry on.

  • At this point, I’d like to see a former HC on the staff, but the biggest coaching news left is whether Stout stays.  BOOOOOOOOM

Mike Wallace goes down so you trade for a player who gets injured even more! Brilliant!

Jernigan goes down so you replace him with almost $80 million in salary??? in what world does that make sense?

Darby goes to Washington and plays almost 100% of the defensive snaps....coincidence that he leaves the Eagles and suddenly is healthy?

Your constant excuses for this team are unreal man.  Are you Jeff Lurie?  You almost sound like him at his PC.

I have my fingers and toes crossed that the new strength and conditioning coach will make a difference, and that Sirianni runs a tougher training camp to get these guys more ready for Week 1.

Talking about horrible snowballing moves from post-2017 -- trading Torrey Smith. Led to the Mike Wallace signing which led to the Golden Tate trade which led to one less top 100 player from a 2019 draft that has only netted a positive contribution from Miles Sanders.

Most of Howie's moves are defensible in a vacuum and I actually think this ship can be righted more quickly than expected. But it really sucks to see Howie getting the chance to fix his own mess again.

New S&C coach could go a long long way.

Imagine if the Eagles started a rebuild after the 2018 season. You think there's controversy over Wentz? That would have be a total s**storm.

If they had let a bunch of veterans walk instead of restructuring contracts, the theme would have been how cheap Lurie is, valuing money over competing. And Howie would have been crucified. I'm sure Wentz would have felt so much happier without a couple veterans targets and having Dillard start at LT as a rookie.

And of course, would you rebuild with Doug and Schwartz as your coaches? Neither gives you any confidence they could manage that sort of transition. Yet, it would have been difficult to fire them a year after a SB and after getting back to the playoffs. The Philly media would have had a field day.

Whether they started the rebuild after 2019 instead of after 2020, there would have been a similar impact, Hargrave's contract runs out in 2022, so Slay is the only cost, and if they trade him, they'll recoup a draft pick. It's not like DeSean, Jeffrey, Malik, Curry et al had trade value, so cutting them a year early would have made no difference, and by going 4-11-1, in effect, it's like they started the rebuild after 2019. Still would have taken to 2022 to move out the veterans and their contracts.

Good points.

Yeah, they were doing something wrong under Doug, things have to change for the better, don't they?

Wrong man wrong.  If you couldn't see that Alshon was never going to be Alshon again then you don't bring him back.  You bring in younger replacements to grow with Carson.  You don't trade for DJack.  The domino effect of running it back and bringing veterans is 100% why we are here.

In 2018, Carson was 26 years old.  Injury aside, he was coming back from a near MVP season.  You had the perfect chance to build a young core around him and it didn't happen.  They surrounded him with aging, declining, expensive players.

It's easy to say that now but fans would have revolted if the Eagles decided to rebuild the year after winning the Super Bowl.  It's unheard of.

Yep. Going all in during their SB window was the right move. They just messed it up.

Can't keep 'em all, other teams get to raid your waiver cuts and PS. Remember Villaneuva? Now a six year starter for the Steelers and made the pro bowl twice.

Fortunately Howie never exposed Mailata.

Villaneuva is one reason I want to see Toth this year after an offseason adding strength.

So my wife bought me a picture for my green room. The background is the practice bubble and then has a bunch of cut outs of random players from the last 20 years(Carson Wentz twice - left to right 29 I think Demarco Murray: blurred 24: 11 - Wentz: 16 Not Sure: 14 Riley Cooper (unless there is another white 14 with long hair that I don't recall): 43 Sproles: 98 - Conner Barwin: 11 Wentz: 58 Trent Cole: 25 LeSean McCoy.

In my wife's defense she is about as disinterested and uninformed about football as a person can be. But she loves me (poor girl) and knows how passionate I am about the Eagles - she saw a picture with a bunch of players on it and it was inexpensive so she bought it.

My concern is Riley Cooper smack in the middle - my question is can I hang it up? I've already informed my wife of the Riley Cooper thing and asked her to never again buy anything Eagles for me without consulting me first. So there won't be any consequences for not hanging it. However, although she would never admit it, I know it would make her feel better about her error if it made it up on the wall. So I'm asking the blog - can I hang the picture without having to feel like a racist pig? Rile Cooper is small enough to be covered with an old ticket stub or such.

Suggestions please.

I was always dead set against Doug not playing any starters during the preseason and expecting guys to go from 0-100 for Week 1, and I was convinced it had adverse effects on the team’s health — but now pretty much all teams follow that formula.  I believe if you’re going to have almost no snaps for your starters/veterans before the regular season, you’d better be running fast training camp scrimmages at least.  I can’t say if Doug was doing that or not, but the end result was always startlingly bad.

I might be wrong, but my perception is the roster was much healthier in the Chip Kelly days — and I don’t think drinking smoothies was a magic elixir.

If it was a picture of only Riley Cooper, and he autographed it for you — that could come off as ‘tone deaf’ ..... otherwise, it seems fine.

They could have made better moves, but in the end the injuries would still have killed them, Wentz going down in the Seattle game, the OL imploding in 2020.

And Schwartz was limited, he never built a defense that could overcome flaws on the offensive side of the ball, his system really required a top notch offense to be effective - it worked better with a lead, but could be carved up by a patient veteran QB.

Cut out a picture of Dougs face and put it over Rileys. Problem solved

Except for 2005 and 2012, I think it was generally healthier during the AR days as well.

One season is bad luck, three in a row is a trend.

I was actually thinking Foles - but it should probably be Foles over 1 of the Wentz. Maybe Blount over Cooper?

I only said Doug because he was #14 when on the Eagles.

I thought this part was funny

On Wednesday, ESPN newsbreaker Adam Schefter appeared on 97.5 The Fanatic and said his best guess was that Wentz will be traded "at some point this offseason.” That’s a bit of a walk back from the immediacy he signaled in a tweet sent last Saturday morning, where he wrote that the Eagles were expected to trade Wentz "in the coming days.”

traded back twice and netted Minn's second rounder next year. Challenge at WR is Bateman might be the only option top of the second and then WR falls off a cliff.
