I also read that the interview with Duce went well and that he went into it prepared --- that he had candidates ready to fill his staff if he gets the job. It's pretty much a joke that people are questioning his experience/qualifications. He's been professional throughout his football career.

Yeah I also read the same thing. Obviously we don't know the specific names and how much of this report is a fluff piece to calm the fans down regarding the likely hiring of Duce as HC, but I do feel better about the possibility if it's true.

If Duce has the insight to bring in strong candidates for OC and DC that he can rely on to call the plays for offense and defense, while he focuses on the overall picture, I think it's worth a shot.

Going into the process I was hoping for an external candidate and was not open to hiring an in-house candidate but based on the remaining guys left (that are even interested), Duce makes a lot of sense. Josh McDaniels has the 6 rings but he has a fair share of negatives including his failed stint as HC/GM in Denver, cheating scandals, and backing out of the Colts job and causing us to lose Frank Reich to Indy.

Duce is clean from a character standpoint but his main drawback would be lack of experience as a coordinator. If we're going to be a rebuilding team the next few years anyways, minus well bring in a coach the players strongly endorse. At least they'll play hard for him?

What are his qualifications? RB coach? How many successful head coaches have been elevated from RB coach to Head Coach. I’m not aware of any.

2010 --- Coaching Intern

2011 --- Special teams quality control coach

2013 --- Running Backs coach

2016 --- Interviewed for the Eagles Head coach opening.

2017 --- was offensive coordinator for the East-West Shrine Game

2018 --- Assistant Head Coach and Running Backs Coach

2020 --- The NFL Scouting Combine adds the Duce Staley Drill.

2020 --- Pederson diagnosed with covid-19 and Duce Staley was the active Head Coach for 10 days of training camp.

As a player, Duce played under Andy Reid (obviously) and Bill Cowher and as a coach, he worked under Reid, Kelly and Pederson (and Pat Shurmur after Kelly was fired)

Got it. Those are some impressive credentials...we should hire him immediately before someone else does.

Since very few go from RB coach to HC means Duce should not be considered or is not able to be a HC. Got it

That’s usually what successful people do. Follow the blueprint of success.

And you believe Andy Reid's credentials were more impressive? Assistant 3 years, O-Line and TE coach for 2 years, QB coach for 2 years (Favre's 6th and 7th season with the Packers). What about Mike Tomlin's credentials? What about John Harbaugh?

Lurie: "Tell me Duce, what qualifications would you say have that set you apart from the rest of the candidates applying for the job?"

Duce: "Well, I do have a cone drill named after me..."

Absolutely- AR was an up and comer. Tomlin and Harbaugh were coordinators.

When was John Harbaugh a coordinator?

Really? He was one of the best ST coordinators in football when he was with the Eagles.

Are you really an Eagles fan?

Special teams coach / special teams coordinator ... receptionist / telecommunication coordinator ...

ST coaches are always having to make those big decisions ... will we set up the punt return or set up the punt block? Send out the kick return team or the kick return team?  The punt coverage team or the punt coverage team? Funny, Harbaugh was promoted to DB coach his final year here ... lol.

Right! There are only a finite number of paths to success. Anything outside of that automatically leads to failure. Wow! I am learning life lessons here...

No, he was a coordinator... end of story.

He had high ambitions to be a Head Coach so AR worked him in with the defense to give more experience in other areas. He didn’t want to be labeled as just a ST coordinator.  He was also given a recommendation to the Ravens from Bill Belichick. I’d say that carries some weight.

I don't really care what you call the ST coordinator. It's not the same thing as OC or DC. I'm not saying Harbaugh was a bad coach, but his resume wasn't exactly impressive if you feel that Duce's isn't.  Duce also has experience in other areas and has been the Assistant head coach for a couple seasons on top of being a position coach. He's also been coaching longer than Harbaugh did before Harbaugh got his chance.

This is an interesting take on the situation regarding Duce:

I’ve been saying that from the start. Why would you hire a RB coach when your QB is your biggest issue? They need a bunch of QB whisperers like they in 2017 with Reich, DP & Flip.

Smh. What’s wrong with 2 QB specialist (OC and QB coach)? Bringing in a "QB whisperer” as a HC does not guarantee the QB position gets better.

In 2017, people forget it was the run game that opened up all those passes by Foles and Wentz. Duce as head coach is an instant impact HC. He will also push the OC to run the damn ball, which every eagles fans has cried to do for years. Balanced attach is a QBs best friend.

Thanks Duce for your excellence with our RB group over the last decade. Do yourself a favor and leave this crappy organization that continues to screw you over.
