This.  The left at least has a basic level of self awareness.  People like Maher call them out on their BS.  All the right has is blowhards screaming the same lines all day in perfect harmony.

It's a snow day and I lit a little fire. A few heated up as a result. Good work by me.

Now as to the matter at hand. MTG is a raving madwoman. Nobody is arguing that. Nor did I compare the two as equally loony. You did that in your head and concluded with a justification for keeping AOC around, just like I said. Others say they don't have to dump her because she's not that bad. Whatever.

All I'm saying is that it doesn't matter either way because she holds 2 of the three cards needed for the freaking lefty untouchable three of a kind. If it turns out she's also LGBTQ... and has a disability, it's the full quadrafecta of untouchability. She would glow with the leftist aura of preference.

AOC is by her own words, ideas, and proposed policies, an anti American socialist. Her biggest opponent isn't some politician, it's the free market. She wants government control of private businesses beyond reasonable safety regulations. The dormant commerce clause suggests that Congress is responsible for promoting interstate and foreign commerce through reasonable regulation. She apparently thinks otherwise.

I favor a clean environment, but I'm not scared of CO2, and if all fossil fuels are done away with, electricity will be 100K /kwhr. There's no viable energy source to replace it right now. Germany proved wind fails to produce enough energy, and we know solar fails too, so it's gonna have to be nuclear if you want all those electric cars to stay charged. They don't like nuclear power either though. Clean water and clean air in perpetuity is very important, but a plan that can actually work to get us there is necessary too.

Probably right Paul.

You're just projecting here.  And pretending that you're just "lighting fires" is a weak cop out.  C'mon man.

People like AOC want a cradle to the grave nanny state. I'm against that, and I think it would be terrible for the country for the reasons people here mention ad nauseum. That said it's a far cry from the actual anti-American beliefs and deeds perpetuated by the republican party, the ex president and his supporters. The party tried to overturn a free and fair election, then when that didn't work a large segment of the party turned to violence to achieve their political ends. Quite literally the definition of anti American. People like Trump, Paul, Cruz, Jordan, and MTG are far more fascist than a ding bat like AOC is "socialist".

Just because the space laser lady is worse (which she is) doesn't mean AOC isn't a dangerous dummy. As for the criminals at the Capitol, they'll have to face the consequences of their actions.

If you can't beat 'em........suppress.

GOP state senators in Georgia introduced a slate of bills on Monday that seek to roll back voter access in the state, such as "no excuse" absentee voting and automatic voter registration.

If passed, the eight proposed measures -- which follow elections where Democrats made historic gains in the state -- could considerably reshape Georgia's electorate and have a significant impact on the 2022 midterm elections. Republicans, echoing a baseless argument frequently made by former President Donald Trump, claim that the measures are necessary to prevent voter fraud, even though no evidence exists that it played a factor in the outcome of the 2020 election.

One of the bills would require an excuse to vote absentee, undoing a 2019 law allowing no-excuse absentee voting. Under the bill, voters would need to be 75 years old or older, absent from their precinct, observing a religious holiday, have a physical disability, be required to provide constant care for someone with a physical disability, or required to work "for the protection of the health, life, or safety of the public during the entire time the polls are open" to qualify to vote absentee.

She is the AOC of her party. She stands out as a nut. AOC stands out as a nut. They are the same in that way. There was no other context given.

You defended her by comparing her to someone worse in an attempt to minimize her crazy by comparison. It's an old trope.

And yes, I am bored today. We got 3 ft of snow with drifts up to 5 ft and in between rounds of cleaning that mess off the driveway I post crap here.

Bottom line, both parties are a mess and need a common sense approach to serving us. The Repubs had control and did little for America with it. The Dems have full control now. Let's see what they do with it.

Now back to he snow...I'll check in later to see if I've irritated anyone.

Man, the AOC comparison really took off. The two are clearly symbols of the fringe of both parties. Yes, the GOP fringe is way worse right now. I wasn't comparing their ideals.

I'm not the one who brought her up and I'm in no way defending her. "You did that in your own head" as you would say.

Again it's like comparing caeser to EagleVA. You can easily argue they both suck but to try to compare their views is just asinine. Not everything is both-sidesable.

Good luck with the snow.  Living on the coast we only got like 6 inches thankfully.

This is like if people like Pat Buchanan and John Edwards had taken over 15-20 years ago. Populist loons. They are just as crooked and corrupt as the establishment and want to seize even more power. How people fall for their nonsense goes to show how ignorant and stupid the masses are.

So this is a good start no?  McConnell denouncing it and calling it looney lies and conspiracy theories.

Does Mitch count as a "mainstream" voice in the Republican party?

I still agree it should be denounced by all of them, troubling that she was elected and all and the GOP has a lot of work to do but this is a good step no?

At least some in the GOP denounced the insurrection, and McConnel (quoted above) called Qanon looney lies and conspiracy theories.

You would hope that more (or all) would denounce it as well and that's a problem.  But it seems not everyone is "comfortable" with it.

Yes, some do, but too damned few. The majority is far too silent.

Patriot party’s presidential candidate 2024!

Thankfully for the GOP, Democrats are going to push crap like this and bring the party back to life. Constitution? Whatever...

I agree and that was my point. Calling  MTG the AOC of her party doesn't make them clones. The similarity between the two women is that they both stand out as fringe voices in their party. That's what I was trying to communicate all along, but not that they are equally bizarre. If we did that, I think all would agree that Greene is far worse on the crazy scale and it's not even close.

It’s hilarious to hear conservatives talk about AOC.  They talk negatively about her being a waitress and taking on working-class jobs (in NYC fwiw), but also try to portray her as an out-of-touch elitist.   She wants bold action on climate change - of course that’s a difficult concept for people who don’t believe in science (or vaccines), but do believe in Jewish space lasers.  Sure we can make fun of her ideas for being too expensive - meanwhile conservatives want to spend billions of dollars on a concrete wall - oh, that’s right, Mexico is (was?) gonna pay for it.
