Throwing everything away from your quote other than, "what clothes Target sells..."

That stuff is ridiculous to be marketed in stores to children, period.

By ignoring the rest of his post, you're kind of proving his point.

I spoke to my advisor, asking about taking a more defensive position. I was told that I shouldn't worry because my portfolio is diversified and the strategy is over the long term. That I should call back if they don't lift the debt limit to re-evaluate. But again the debt limit will be short term vs. my long term strategy. They better be right.

I agree, sadly. I really like Tim Scott and wish he had a legit chance. But well, you know...Trump.

I did on Monday

A lot of these guys have significant investments of their own. Would be shocked if they're willing to tank them at the behest of a guy who stares at solar eclipses, but then I'm also reminded of the fact that MTG is presiding over the house so I guess there really is no bottom to their stupidity.

The cult's gonna do what the cult leader says.  But surely there are enough in the mix that aren't willing to douse themselves in gasoline and light a match....right?

The really insane part is the amount of Republican rank and file that would be happy to see the country slip into a depression because they hate liberals.  It really speaks to how little these losers have to live for.

You're forgetting an important point -- they are morons who have no clue about the catastrophic risks they are taking. And anyone who tries to tell them is just some Ivy League alarmist that is part of the deep state.

So you really think they're aiming for default?  The leadership, I mean, I know the base wants it, but they can barely tie their shoes.

Buying back in when the bottom falls out?

McCarthy probably knows the risks, but he cares about being speaker a lot more than global economic catastrophe. He had to agree that any one Congressman can call for a Motion to Vacate, and it takes just a simple majority. So 218 votes and he's out -- all 213 Dems and 5 GOP, and no more speaker McCarthy. Any deal would likely lose 15-25 GOP votes from the Freedom Caucus.

So the only way to get a deal is for Biden to deliver Democratic votes not only for the deal, but also votes that wouldn't remove McCarthy when someone like Gaetz brings a Motion to Vacate. But if you're McCarthy -- do you trust Biden and the Democrats not to stab you in the back? If he is removed, the House is paralyzed and the GOP looks like clowns -- all of that helps Biden and Dems in 2024. So how does McCarthy do a deal that guarantees he stays speaker? I'm not banking on McCarthy putting the good of the country above his own political ambition.

On Monday the market was pricing in like zero risk -- no reason not to step to the sidelines for 2 weeks.

Buying back in either way, unless they go true Armageddon (default on debt), in which case nothing matters anymore. If they solve it, I doubt market rallies much. If they make it worse...buying opportunity.

I don't worry about Dems uniting and agreeing on keeping McCarthy in.  If Biden tells them to do it, they'll do it.  I guess I don't know if McCarthy will trust them or not, but he probably should.  There's a segment of the Republican side that actively wants the doomsday scenario, so working with Dems is easily the best chance he has.

I bought some VIX call spreads for fun as a 12:1 payoff

If mkt tanks, I'll look at bank preferred and bonds
