His wife, and half the Mormons there, thought that was a bit much. Smith and his polygamist pals went west to Utah. The other Mormons stayed behind, and don't hold with that other nonsense. She kept a lot of his personal effects, and some are on display a the the temple there.

In 2016 people like Paul Ryan thought they could control Trump, since they knew he was lazy and would have no interest in doing the actual work of governing. They missed that his narcissism would overwhelm and require him to be front and center. But now the GOP should know better (and frankly many of us knew in 2016).
