The only other two names I thought of were Raphael Warnock and Gretchen Whitmer; both got elected in battleground states, whereas Newsom has been largely unopposed in California.  Warnock is a bit short on political experience but harder to attack, being a minister, etc.

Whitmer would be comical because Trump and Republicans would simply dust off the Hillary playbook and demonize her for being a woman.

This.  Nominating a woman isn't worth the squeeze.  Republicans hate women so much they absolutely lose their minds (because they're a party who's core identity comes from divorced men) and women don't defend themselves as deftly as men, so their attacks stick.  Pelosi, Hilary, Warren, Kamala, all enrage the right in a way that men don't and they've always had (and always will have) a 0% chance of ever becoming the president because of it.

Another property insurer is dropping coverage in Florida.

Farmers Insurance will stop writing new business and not renew its existing "Farmers-branded” automobile, home and umbrella policies in the Sunshine State, the company said Tuesday.

On Monday, Farmers sent notice of its plans to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, which is reviewing it. Insurers must give the office 90 days' notice if they want to discontinue writing business in Florida.

"This business decision was necessary to effectively manage risk exposure,” the company said in a statement.

Minnesota's Republican Party is dead broke — proving that the party of Trump is slowly dying out. The Republican Party of Minnesota has a staggering $335,781.36 in debt and only $53.81 in cash on hand according to filings with FEC. Apparently, people don't want to donate to a party actively working to destroy our democracy. While Minnesota is home to the country's least successful branch of the Republican Party, the fascist organization is doing almost as terribly in other states. Trumpism is eating through them like a cancer. The Arizona Republican Party has less than $50,000 in the bank despite have $770,000 four years ago. They have wasted money trying desperately to prove Trump's false claims that the election was stolen, and succeeded only in getting hit with fees by the courts for wasting tax dollars on their appeals. Colorado Republican Party deputy chief of staff Roger Hudson also says his state's party is bankrupt and being evicted from its office. Everything Trump touches dies.

Well, they are broke because they can send money to stop the steal, or one of the other Trump grift funds, or the local GOP, but not both.

The brief, filed with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, asserted that Texas had a "government” interest in "discouraging … autonomous sex” — a fancy legalistic term for ****ion.

In addition, Cruz’s office argued that the state had "police-power interests” in "discouraging prurient interests in sexual gratification, combating the commercial sale of sex, and protecting minors.” Violators of the Texas law faced up to two years in prison if convicted.

Furthermore, Cruz’s office asserted, "There is no substantive-due-process right to stimulate one’s genitals for non-medical purposes unrelated to procreation or outside of an interpersonal relationship.”

So much for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Also, for a guy who was so concerned about Obama and the birther crap and cares so much about America's borders, Trump doesn't get nearly enough heat for his wife getting into the US without following basic immigration rules.  Seems like he only cares if they aren't white people.

Probably didn't help that she barely ever spoke. Could be that she preferred not to because of her accent or fluency, but she has her own xenophobic POS of a husband to thank for cultivating a climate where that sort of thing is openly detested.

The only thing I remember her ever saying was "Who give a F about Christmas!?"

For a party fighting the war on Christmas, you would think they might care
