Well, congrats to liberals. Biden or Gavin or anyone else that ends up on the ticket is going to beat Trump. Looks rigged on the GOP side on top of everyone else falling apart. Younkin would be crazy to jump into this mix. Done deal.

As for the GOP...they are circling the drain when they can't even get someone better than freaking Lake to run for the AZ seat. WTF. That's after Dr Oz and Walker got rolled. Not that the a-holes on the Dem side are any better. Our country is f'ed.

Certainly Trump's comments the other day about how none of the people on the debate stage would be his VP makes the primary basically pointless.  I think at this point the others should drop out an coalesce around Haley.  I know they won't but if they had any backbone, they'd all dip and put their support behind her.

She's probably the most viable of the bunch.  I prefer Christie and respect his stance but I don't think it's the best play.  Haley's relatively conservative and has still toed the Trump line pretty deftly, plus she's a woman, which puts Trump in a tougher spot attacking her.  I mean, he still would of course but if it were a 1v1 race, his "who'd vote for that ugly B" routine would really stand out.

If you add up all the non-Trump poll results and gave it to Haley, it would make the race somewhere around 50/50 or 55/45, somewhere in there.  It would at least give the non-Trump voters a fighting chance.  Probably wouldn't work (and there's likely no way to get DeSantis and especially Vivek to drop out, he's in it for the airtime) but if you somehow could, it at least has a distantly outside chance at working.  And even if it didn't work in the primary, if Trump goes to prison before the Convention, it gives the Reps an easy go-to to give them a chance in November.

Yeah, but politicians are selfish people. They know Trump will lose and in four years some of them will be right back at it vs going against an incumbent Haley if she wins. Even if they do rally around her the Fifth Ave people will take their football and go home crying that it was rigged, which it is, but in their favor since they control the party leaderships in many states thanks to Bannon. I heard CA and NV may not even do a primary.

Either way...the GOP is losing regardless of what the polls may be saying now, which I don't believe at all. If Trump wins a lot of us aren't voting. If he loses the primary his people aren't voting.

You're not wrong, but much like the Dems in 2020, you could probably get a lot of them to drop out.  Pence, Scott, Christie, the bottom feeders, they'd all probably go if the RNC asked them to for the sake of the party.  I don't think the RNC would do that because they're terrified of Trump but if they did, they'd probably find some takers.  But DeSantis would be tough and I think Vivek would be impossible (though he might be pulling from Trump anyway so it may not matter).

Edit: I shouldn't have used the word probably here.  They might go if the circumstances were right and they thought it would help defeat Trump.  I realize it's a big ask.  But it's been done before.

Yeah, it would be nice to see it happen. I don't think I'm alone in terms of former active supporters who are done with him. He's basically being forced upon us at this point. I'd love the chance to support someone else. We'll see.

We knew he would trash the party and he did. Shame on everyone who let the horse loose in the hospital.

More of a "Flight 93" attempt..

So I've now seen grainy videos of reps. Boebert and Bowman each pulling something inappropriately.

Republicans never miss a good chance to fleece America.

One. I didn't say anything about veterans benefits.

Two. While it is true the COLA was already approved last fall and set to take effect, the Senate added language to block the COLA in their resolution. The House conveniently did not. So while Republicans continue to whine about how much the government is spending, they approved pay raises for themselves.

Missing context is the better retort.

Regardless, the change isn’t a Republican invention, as the post suggests.

It’s based on a bipartisan recommendation from the Select Committee on the Modernization of Congress, which was adopted in the waning days of the Democratic-controlled House last December, noted Molly Reynolds, a senior fellow in governance studies at the Brookings Institution, a think tank based in Washington.

Chad Gilmartin, a spokesperson for Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, agreed, saying the move "simply provides administrative clarity” to what was ratified under the previous majority.

"It does not authorize any new money. It is optional for members to use and is fully transparent since it will all be disclosed publicly in the statements of disbursement,” he wrote in an email.

Let the Hunger Games begin!!

McCarthy will have to cut a deal with Dems to save his speakership. He doesn't have enough republicans to hold onto it. If he is replaced I fear the next Speaker is going to be even more extreme.

Whether McCarthy is recalled or not, Gaetz got what he wanted. His name is in the headlines.

I guess we shall see.

Kevin McCarthy: ‘I’m Not Going To Provide Anything’ To Dems To Save My Speakership

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said Tuesday that he won’t offer any concessions to Democrats in exchange for helping him keep his leadership post as far-right conservatives prepare to try to oust him.

"They haven’t asked for anything, I’m not going to provide anything,” McCarthy said in an interview on CNBC.

The GOP leader is facing a House vote as soon as Tuesday afternoon aimed at kicking him out of his top post. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) is leading the effort to replace McCarthy as payback for McCarthy rejecting demands by far-right conservatives to include massive spending cuts in a bill to avert a government shutdown over the weekend.
