Looking at it with hindsight you can see the right wing populism yearning to break free and be stupid.

Yep, and I wouldn't even say they went bonkers, they rightfully pressed the POTUS on an ethical issue, and he perjured himself in the process. After that point, anything was fair game, up to and including impeachment. You could argue them getting hung up on an ethical issue was petty and out of bounds of the initial investigation, but the minute he tried to lie about all of it, all bets were off. Clinton brought that on himself just as much as the GOP had him in their sights. But Trump's behavior is so far above anything else, it's not even comparable to anything that transpired back then. The GOP of the 90's doesn't even remotely resemble the ass clowns in the party now. Trying to trace the origins and draw parallels begins to approach butterfly effect territory, and is almost akin to saying a Vienna art school caused the holocaust the moment they denied young Adolf's application.

I think there’s a big difference between being a young ishy artist and a political culture intubated by 90s talk radio.

November 16, 20232 yr Marjorie Taylor Greene claims Democrats failed to defend House from Capitol rioters https://www.theguardian.com/books/2023/nov/15/marjorie-taylor-greene-book-january-6-mtg While denying they did anything wrong, MTG says the Dems did nothing about the rioters, who didn't riot, and are unjustly jailed. This is the frigging GOP.

November 16, 20232 yr House Ethics Committee head to move to expel George Santos after release of damning report https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-ethics-committee-head-moves-to-expel-george-santos-after-release-of-damning-report Quote The chairman of the House Ethics Committee will move to expel Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., from Congress after the release of a damning report into the embattled Long Island Republican. "Chairman Guest feels that the evidence uncovered in the Committee’s investigation is more than sufficient to warrant punishment, and that the most appropriate punishment is expulsion," Republican Mississippi Rep. Michael Guest's personal office told Fox News Digital on Thursday. "So, separate from the Committee process and his role as Chairman, he plans to file an expulsion resolution during tomorrow’s 9:00 am pro forma session." So there is a line you can cross?
