Literally anyone could ask this same question when they're charged with a crime.

"Your Honor, the crime was already committed, what's the gain in charging me for it now?"

If there is a victim then a typical gain is one for the victim.  We don't have that situation here.  Stormy has already gained far more than she ever deserved.

No. In this case is no reason not to though. I disagree with all your points about him possible benefitting from this. I also disagree that possible political points should weigh in on the decision to indict.

I'm sure there are many cases with context I couldn't even dream of that might make me lean towards saying don't indict because of X. This ain't one of them.

I believe the victim here would be the government, like when someone commits tax fraud.

Ok, that is fair but then I need to ask the question on the flip side.  Why go with indict?  Are you simply saying that indict should be the default at all times?

I still can't imagine a scenario where this leads to possible undecided voters deciding to vote to him. The retarded Trumplikins are voting for him anyway, and there's not enough of them. I think we learned that last part in the last election IMO.

In that case, it would only strengthen my feeling on this case.  The DA gains from the publicity and maybe the local police gain a political victory but I have little sympathy for those two points.

For a career criminal? Yes. IMO, he's basically a mob boss.

Sorry, it doesn't work like that.  No one else is afforded the opportunity to step into a courtroom and say, "Well, the only victim is the US government, so why don't we just drop it."

Ok, think we've pretty much covered everything there is to cover here.

Now who is gonna cross examine me?

You do know that there are tons of cases that aren't pursued for all kinds of reasons, right?  A tax evasion case, for example, isn't likely to be pursued if the only outcome could be a penalty of say $100.

we don't even know what the potential charges are yet.

Fair enough.

We have seen what people think they will be though.

Well it's sure as hell not going to be a $100 penalty.  And, like Hunt says, we don't know the extent of any of this.  We do know that it revolves around what's essentially tax evasion concerning the Stormy hush payment and we know it was $130,000 payment.   No reason to believe anyone else wouldn't be hit with charges if they withheld or misrepresented $130,000 from the government.  I've gotten a notice about a grand before that had the threat of charges if I didn't comply.

I'm failing to see how that will generate a fee that can outweigh all the costs that would go along with conducting a trial.  The police costs alone to deal with all the crap near the courthouse will be massive.  I'm not a NY law expert but it seems to me that there is a zero chance of net financial gain for the local govt.

If there is actual prison time in the mix then that could change the game for me depending on the length of time.

I guess like Mikeseriesofnumbers once predicted: We’ll see.

I think the problem is that we just used to ignore crazies because there was like only one or two of them.

Honestly what needs to be done with MAGAts is that they need to be confronted publicly. So here in Florida there’s plenty of me to yell at. If you see a MAGA, yell at MAGA. Anywhere you’ll be and they’re there, let em have it. Publicly shame them. @mr_hunt, the next time you’re at Price Chopper and some idiot in line says something say something back and shut them. @EaglesRocker97 the next time you drive by some idiot with a sign, shout them down. @vikas83 the next time you’re, uh, accidentally at someplace a poor would be for whatever reason. Just yell at them.
