This was always the concern. Bragg declined to charge a year ago, and got flack. Trump is almost certainly guilty here but this is going to be held up as evidence of a political witch hunt even if/when GA and the federal cases are filed.

Yeah. He's going to get a conviction most likely, but it still feels too small to bring.

Based on the little info we have so far, this seems like a mistake by Bragg IMO. Why he may have a logical legal case, it's a stretch and really cute.

The stretch is the move to raise it up to the level of felony. Bragg just now in his press release.  Talks about a couple state laws and also one federal law that he asserts Trump broke and then concealed the info thru the business falsifications.  Bragg may have a case with the state law but it is appears flimsy at this point.

Let's hope Georgia comes quickly.

Basically, Bragg is trying to use the pattern and history to make his case that this was designed to influence the election. Pecker, Cohen and Trump met and agreed to work together to kill stories. That's why he'll bring the doorman and McDougal into it. He's establishing that this was a plan to influence the election that Trump was fully aware of and participated in (in the initial meeting). Then the payments to Cohen are the falsification of business records, in the advancement of said scheme to influence the election. Basically, Bragg is taking away the John Edwards defense -- Edwards got off on similar charges because he convinced a jury he paid for silence to avoid embarrassment and telling his family. Here, you have Trump orchestrating a plot to aid his election. This paragraph from the Statement of Facts is the key:

Quote

Soon after, in August 2015, the Defendant met with Lawyer A and AMI’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (the "AMI CEO”) at Trump Tower in New York County.  At the meeting, the AMI CEO agreed to help with the Defendant’s campaign, saying that he would act as the "eyes and ears” for the campaign by looking out for negative stories about the Defendant and alerting Lawyer A before the stories were published.  The AMI CEO also agreed to publish negative stories about the Defendant’s competitors for the election.

So Trump can't claim it was for any reason other than influencing the election, which violates NY state law and makes this a felony.

It's still too cute for school, but Bragg's got him.

I have a confession to make. -_-

It may be difficult for some of you to hear because I know how I'm generally revered as a scion of masculinity and rationality in this forum. But I've been thinking over the past hour or so and have decided that it was more important for me to pay forward a life lesson than to shelter myself from your ridicule. As your better, I have a tacit obligation to show you how even the most evolved mammalian specimens can be subject to the weaknesses of whim.

First...some background. Some of you may remember a time when cherry-flavored Coca-Cola was not a commercial product. When a young gentleman like myself requested a "Cherry Coke", it consisted of a fountain pour of the cola at hand, a shot of Grenadine, and typically a pair of stemmed red cherries submerged in the beverage like a pair of bollocks in a sitz bath. It was the drink of choice for those of us who had to endure time on a barstool next to our alcoholic mothers, but couldn't bare the pre-woke humiliation of ordering a Shirley Temple - even as a nine-year-old male. Anyway, when Coke introduced their cherry version in the mid 80's, it became a bit of an anachronism to order a hand mixed version of the drink, be it by a traditional soda jerk or a nubile barmaid with black yoga pants and an Onlyfans account that I know about but she doesn't know I know about.

I attended my local public house today - as I frequently do - where I have a usual rotation of drink orders. Depending on mood, it may be a Guinness, or a poured Corona "fully dressed" often accompanied by a shot of Patron, a Pabst Blue Ribbon if I'm feeling especially Trumpy, or occasionally a common Tennessee whiskey (read: bourbon knockoff) in a cola.

Today, to my perpetual embarrassment, I requested the following... to the letter:

"A Jack and Coke, easy on the ice, with a splash of Grenadine."

The look on the barmaid's face can only be described as instant dryness. The type of extreme aridity that a Tuareg would expect after preparation for a long December. The poor girl may never be able to procreate again for want of moisture like a sea snail under a kilogram of salt. The order echoed through my head as I saw my chances of any physical contact with the young woman drop from shallow to abyss like the continental shelf to the central trench of the mid-Atlantic ridge.

I realized that what I had ordered was my generation's equivalent of a White Claw.

I could have kept this incident to myself, but I thought full disclosure was essential to preventing further transgressions. I have no quarrel with anyone's sexual preferences or orientations, but I do have concerns about where this event could lead. What harm is a splash of Grenadine, you ask? Well today's splash of Grenadine is tomorrow's seabreeze.

So... I submit myself to your collective  judgement.

seems kind of bogus,honestly.

Romney and Bolton, who both hate Trump with a passion, have weighed in and totally shoot down Bragg.  I think Bragg has overplayed his hand.  The panel on CNN right now are in a bit of despair.

Bring on Georgia.

Impossible. I was told that CNN is in the tank for liberals, and that they will light through their teeth to make sure that Trump has taken down.

They are trying to get there, haha.

btw - Naturally, I should have written Romney not the deceased McCain.

Sorry @DrPhilly... but I had to.

You got them confused because they both got steamrolled by Obama.

Gotcha. I have no idea who is anchoring CNN at any point.

For what it's worth Meghan thinks this is going to be a wing for Trump via a rally around the flag.

To be fair... I don't start threads. So if I have something to say, I just pick whatever is at the top of CVON. That's all.

You all can have your history.

I've been saying that was going to be the case, unless something totally new came out, since it became clear they were moving forward.  Doesn't help one bit for the general election but it sure helps him get the nomination.  He's going to grift a ton of money tonight and during the rest of the week.  He will be insufferable tonight.
