Conception and implantation aren’t the same thing but conception means the same thing as fertilization. conception is a more nebulous term. it's like the general social term for "gettin' pregnant". it's been used in literature to mean variously everything from sexual relations that lead to pregnancy through to implantation. fertilization is the more accurate scientific term for when the sperm hits up the egg and sex can be determined. someone isn't considered pregnant though until implantation.
