Eagles trade pick #6 and #156 to Miami for pick #12, #123, and a 2022 1st

The difference between #6 and #12 is 400pts in our favour.  The difference between #156 and #123 is 21.6pts in their favour.  So an overall difference of 378.4pts, which is the equivalent of the #52 overall pick.  The saying is that a pick the next draft is like a pick in the current draft, but a round lower.  So a 1st Round 2022 pick is theoretically equal to a 2021 2nd Round pick.  So it does balance out for the most part going by the draft trade chart value system.

This is exactly the kind of insight I was looking for

Miami was slick. They traded down and got a bunch of picks and then Immediately traded back up and didn’t give up much to do it.   Howie got worked on this.

Didn’t give up much? Dude a first round for 6 picks is a hell of a lot. I check out of here and sports radio for all the Howie hate. It’s ok not to like the move because you wanted pitts or chase but to say he got worked when he got a first round and a fourth round makes you seem a little dumb.

I used to defend Howie and try to justify his moves and reason out what we might be trying to do but I’m just done.

This guy Fin sucks

We have an old, expensive roster, and we’re not very good. So we need as many good young players as possible. So I think it’s a good move. We can still get a good player in the first round this year. It’s even likely a couple of the guys we’ve been considering at 6 might be there at 12. Then we have potentially three first rounders next year. It’s a good move, but it will be up to Howie and the scouting staff to make the right picks, and it will be up to our coaching staff to develop the players — which was a weakness of the last staff. We’re too far away from contention for a guy like Chase/Pitts to make much of a difference in the short term.

Great point about the coaching.  Look at how many guys we drafted that are playing much better elsewhere that were absolutely terrible here.  It's very telling.

When you consider that he tried to move up to 3, and probably had a deal on the table and then Miami pulled the deal off to leap over him get to 3, only to then come back to Howie and get right back up to the top 10, yeah Howie got worked.

Everybody is assuming 3 first rounders next year.  Wentz is very capable of getting injured and not getting in the requisite number of snaps.

Ok but than if Wentz doesn’t reach his markers it’s because he sucked. If the colts pull them that means their record is bad so in that case you have a high second round so 2 first and 2 seconds are pretty good. That’s the kind of Capital that can build a great team. The more picks you have the better chance to hit a home run.

Well, we don’t need a QB or a left tackle or even a disruptive DE so it's a good move. If Hurtz doesn’t play well next year, we’ll have a top 10 pick plus 1-2 other first round picks to get the best QB in the draft.

Yep those are your premier positions.  QB, pass rusher and LT.  QBs were going to be gone, Sewell might have been there but we have young LTs on the roster and there's no premier pass rusher this year.  Good move.

So did a bunch of other teams. Those teams had better QB play too.

Those other teams don't have a string of 1st round and 2nd round busts though.

NFL is a business you don’t always get the deal you want when theirs is competitive bidding. I’m glad he didn’t move up and lose capital. I would sooner be at 12 with and have the first than lose a first and second this year to move up to 3. It’s the right move even if howie was trying to do the wrong move.

Howie didn't get worked. I'm not buying this Eagles looking to move up to 3 seriously. Especially when Zach Wilson was never likely to be there. It was clear the Eagles Dolphins trade was already in place if the Dolphins got up to 3. If Howie was desperate to get to 3, he would have never facilitated the Dolphins moving up by setting up a contingent trade.

Trading down 6 spots and getting an extra first the following year is a really good trade for the Eagles. Howie deserves plenty of criticism. Not for this. Good trade.

We don’t even know he tried to move up to 3. That reeks of BS. Why would he trade up to 3 to get a guy everyone expects to go at 2?

A few reports said he did try. Why? Because Howie...that’s why.

So your defense of Howie is he fell into a steaming pile of crap that smelled like roses?  That’s not being a good gm it’s getting lucky.  I’m glad his deal to move up failed.  He’s going to F up the 3 firsts next year, you can bank on that.  He has house money now which is never a good thing for a degenerate

So you really think that the egotistical Howie would let SF move up over him and actually HELP it happen by working out a contingency plan with the dolphins to also allow them to move up over him? That’s ridiculous 😂 it’s clear the dolphins played both sides and won.  They banged their GF and her mom in the same night on this one.

You have more foresight than Howie, then. Congrats

I will eat your cork, Franky Avalon!

meet me in RnR after recess

Seems that the coaches were interested in one of the top QBs and when SF traded up, they decided they couldn't get any of their guys. I understand that they have a lot of needs, but when you have a chance to get an elite talent top five talent you should take it. With the first three picks being QB, maybe even top four, they could have potentially got their first or second non-QB player at pick six.

I'm fine with trading down, just wondering if waiting a bit to get closer to the draft could have netted a bit more. We will see in the next weeks if other teams start to make moves.

(Charlton Heston voice)  "YOU MANIACS!"  - as he literally pounds sand - "DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!"

J/K   Typical Eagles.  They just can't do the safe pick and take a great player at #6.   Oh well, maybe it works this time.

On the surface it didn't look like a fair trade for us, but by the numbers it is.  I do like having THREE 1st Round picks next draft.  Better chance to evaluate talent when there will be a full college season and players won't be opting out for the year.  Though, both the Dolphins and Colts 1st Round picks will probably be in the 20s.  And that's hoping that Wentz plays enough snaps to turn the Colts pick into a 1st Rounder.

As others have said, there isn't really any sure shot generational player that early in the draft, so a trade down made sense.  So now we have 5 picks in the first 4 rounds.

When the Patriots built a dynasty, the routinely traded a pick in the current year for a higher pick the next year - that’s how you improve the franchise by trading a $1 for $1.50 next year to desperate team that needs to get better to keep peoples jobs. This is the only smart deal I’ve seen Howie do in a long time.

Well, it helps when you are able to develop those players you draft.  Hopefully this coaching staff can do that.  Their track record shows that they can.  I'm fine sliding down a handful of spots where you'll find similar value while picking up another lottery ticket for the future.

And they filled the 4th round hole in the draft board which allows greater flexibility. I guess the plan is to draft Surtain or Bateman rather than hoping they could get Chase at 6.
