One is that we hit a herd immunity level worldwide at approximately the same time thru vaccination thus stopping the virus in its tracks and preventing further mutation. That approach seems more like a nice theory than something that could actually be successfully implemented. The second way is for the virus to naturally produce a dominant variant that isn't particularly deadly/serious but highly contagious in which case we hit herd immunity thru the natural process of evolution. If we are lucky Omicron is that variant. In the meantime, we will continue to try to live with this thing and adopt policy in various manners in various places. No one approach is perfect. They all have their pluses and minuses. Anyone claiming to have "the truth" is no better than some dumb ass religious nut bag.
