Wonder why it was only a half dose of Moderna?

The full dose of Moderna contains 100 mcg of mRNA, while the Pfizer dose is 30 mcg. So even a half dose of Moderna has more particles than a full dose of Pfizer.

I am thinking it will take a higher dose of mRNA to create an immune response in an elderly population and/or with weakened immune systems. But higher dose comes with more risk of complications. The trick is to find the right does that will trigger a response but low enough so there are fewer complications.

Warning to anyone who’s had Covid as scientists discover symptoms that can last for TWO YEARS

https://www.the-sun.com/health/5319194/symptoms-that-can-last-two-years-after-covid-discovered/

Just the flu, really.

I know of 2 people that are suffering with significant issues following Covid infection. And this doesn’t include my sister in law who couldn’t smell or taste anything for a year after she got it…

One is a work acquaintance that is still struggling with brain fog more than a year after having Covid.

The other is a very close friend. Strong republican supporter. Was against vaccines from day 1. Wore a mask, but begrudgingly, when she had to. Canceled play dates with our kids when we asked that everyone wear masks. Canceled plans to hang out with us when we asked that everyone wear masks during the height of new case rates. Anyway, she was hospitalized with Covid and ever since has had ongoing significant health issues including diabetes along with other symptoms that her doctors haven’t been able to identify/diagnose or understand.

And yeah, that’s why I’ve never been too concerned with morbidity rates or case severity in children… From what I’ve been able to read the risk of long Covid does not seem to be tied to severity of illness and it is not known whether children are at same, higher, or reduced risk of long Covid following infection. The unknown potential long-term health risks are the reason I was a proponent for masking in schools and trying to take any possible safety measure longer than most other vocal people were.

It annoys me that PA is apparently switching to releasing weekly rather than daily numbers. I liked looking at the daily variance, and you could already look at the seven-day average to gauge the overall picture better. I guess they wanted to reduce to amount of revisions needed and give less fodder to the denialists, but meh <_<

Are you still wearing an N95 to class everyday?

KN95, yes. I feel pretty safe at school, but it feels like a particularly good idea when I'm tutoring and sitting right next to the same kid for up to two hours sometimes.

Hey guys - just wanted to share with everyone that I spent some time with my mom today who is fully recovered and back to her 90+ old self.  Went on a Costco run and she wore me out.  Appreciate all the well wishes and concern!

Really good to hear, man. I know we go back and forth in here a lot, but it's all in good fun and it's genuinely depressing to hear about people losing loved ones to this F'ing disease.

Some of the medical community is wondering whether a mysterious outbreak of hepatitis in kids is associated with prior COVID infection.

You know, normal flu stuff.

No. A US funded designer flu.

It is for those vaccinated but you are an obvious anti vaxxer

I wonder if fauci has bought a place in DC next door to congress because he is going to be spending many years in front of them  starting next year

Like he hasn't been in front of them for the past two years?

Well, since small children still can't be vaccinated, thanks for making a great case for wearing a mask ^_^

You will always have an excuse to wear a mask. I am done with COVID because i believe in vaccines. I am done with this thread. There is enough misery in the other sports section.

I wear a mask depending on the situation by making an individual risk assessment given "conditions on the ground," ya know, like a sensible person.

You will always find a reason to get your panties twisted over other people wearing masks. You know, like a moron.

 I sound like a person with a modicum of scientific knowledge and a concern for the wellbeing of those around me.

The map of states with the most preventable deaths shows a sharp political divide – as NPR has reported, people living in counties that voted for then-President Trump in the 2020 election were three times more likely to die from COVID-19 than people who lived in counties that voted for President Biden.

Killing off your voters to own the libs!

Yeah they botched that one. Maybe they meant it wasn't "widely available" but the EUA was granted in mid Dec and then began to be immediately rolled out based on age and risk-based criteria.

I would think they were talking about general availability. It was very difficult to get vaccinated when Biden took office even if you were in the eligible group, the efforts the administration took through FEMA centers to get the vaccines actually out and available to the public in a meaningful way definitely took place under his watch.
