Dang.  Guess I'll tell my state we can't vote by mail anymore like we have been for decades now.

Do they mail in ballots automatically as is done in several Democratic controlled states, or are there safeguards imposed to prevent voter fraud?

For those who believe that Covid was a naturally occurring pandemic, monkeypox is coming just in time for the 2022 midterms to bail out the Dems.

(EDITED to correct typo on the year.  Radical left wing commies hate typos)

Monkeypox has been around plus the smallpox vaccine works against it

Has anyone seen ER since then?

Seeing a big spike in COVID cases at work but not as much in the state numbers because most of em are testing with at home kits. Probably going to have to rely on waste water data to really get an idea of when "outbreaks" are happening now.

Have a 2 month old patient in the ICU with respiratory failure and cardiomyopathy from COVID. Really depressing.

We've used waste analysis for 18 months over here as the key indicator.  It has been a far superior indicator in terms of trend estimation to anything one can get from testing.

Epidemiologists and the medical community use it heavily FWIW. More talking about the general population/media who still seem to focus on reported cases, which is pretty worthless now.

I'm still tracking hospitalizations and trying to correlate it back to positivity rates from 2-4 weeks prior, since my state's wastewater surveillance data is pretty sparse. My thought is that despite a smaller sample size, positivity rates should still be a decent signal for identifying surges (but not the severity), albeit with some inherent selection bias.

Yep. Those reported cases metrics had some value at certain points in time but the waste trends and hospitalization trends were always far superior metrics.

My kids school just had their first case in quite a while.

Unfortunately that's happening all over new England too. That on top of a super late flu season. Really sucks in general but have had a few kids and parents get really sick from it recently. Hoping that's just small sample size.

looking more and more likely that the 5-day course of pax will eventually be extended to be an 8 or 10 day course.

My kids elementary school had an outbreak last week. The school has continuously had cases pop up here and there, but they finally sent the entire Kindergarten home with at-home tests at the end of the week. My kid (not in the Kindergarten class) wasn't feeling well, so we tested him. It was positive. He's been quarantined to his bedroom for 5 days. My wife and I have no symptoms, tested negative. Frankly, the vaccine has done its job. He has minimal symptoms: just a runny nose, cough, and scratchy throat. No fever or anything else of notice. We all caught a cold in March that was worse.

But it's just a cold and only impacts the elderly and those in bad health.

I also have 5 separate patients who have lost parents/caregivers to COVID. And that's just the deaths, not the people who have had strokes/other severe disability.  Why I haven't been engaging in the "lockdowns caused mental health crisis in kids" convo in here.  Hard for me to be civil about it all at this point.

Relax Nancy, it was a joke

You will notice with the Covid forever people that they were so focused on cases a few weeks ago but now that cases are a fraction of what they were in January suddenly it is hospitalizations and home testing which they ignore was going on then also, when hospitalization do not  go where they expect it then is a big republican conspiracy to hide hospital numbers.
