Oh even better, I use raw eggs in pasta dishes too. Slightly tempered from the heat of the pasta anyway, but my wife always freaks out. Seems like the whole salmonella thing must've been a bigger problem decades ago than it is now.

A Hindu going on about steaks and milkshakes...hope none of your family members are lurking here, wouldn't want you to get disowned. But I guess the money buys you some leeway

Overall it seems. The report is from 2004, so things maybe have changed with the state of factory farming,  but I also read that salmonella can't grow at Temps below 45 degrees, so conditions often just aren't optimal for the bacterium to propagate.

Raw egg in pasta, raw egg white in cocktails, cured raw egg yolk grated over various dishes.  Raw egg is fantastic.

Yeah, I think some of the attitudes are holdovers from scares in the 70s and 80s, but I would expect our farming and distribution practices have gotten safer since then, along with the ability to notify people about contaminated lots before they are widely consumed. The eggs I usually get are from the grocery store but come out of a Lancaster County farm, so I would seem to be avoiding the worst excesses of factory farming. I'm all for "buy local," but on the other hand, I'm not enticed by these Amish folks who have eggs sitting in a cooler on the side of the road. Seems sketch, lol.

Meh I eat a lot of raw and questionable stuff in general (mostly because I care more about delicious food than the small chance of dysentery).   But eggs have a lot of antibacterial properties that make the chance of anything serious very low.

I recently watched a cooking show that showed what a "century egg" is and needless to say, I shan't be indulging in such delicacies anytime soon.

This ain't that.  Just toss some raw egg yolk in a salt and sugar mixture and let them sit in the fridge a few days.  After that you can grate them like cheese for a nice umami taste.  Great on salads

I'm totally that guy who eats the stuff my gf is convinced has gone bad and is ready to throw away. I think people have gotten a little spooked to the point that they're overly cautious about eating anything past the sell-by date or that has spent a couple of weeks in the fridge. At the same time, she has a sensitive stomach, but my gut has had decades of exposure to elevated levels of bacteria, so this is probably working out for the best

Spent a month in Thailand eating almost entirely street food without getting sick once, and I eat some variation of raw seafood at least once a week. My stomach could digest nine volt batteries at this point

The amount of times that the same people in here who lament a virus that targets fat, unhealthy people have discussed their favorite fast food is staggering

All this talk of milk shakes is making me nuts!!

Back In April I suffered abrupt digestive issues.  Tested negative for any sort of bacterial disease and thought maybe I had  C diff but that was also negative.  Doc and I thought it might be food-diary or gluten or both so I gave up diary and I am doing better.  Lost 10 lbs. seems to have leveled off.  Sudden weight loss is scary stuff.  Boy I miss cheese.  Getting old ****s!!!

Hope I live long enough to find out the origin of covid.

Is that not you?  I can't tell if it's someone I should know from the thumbnail.  Always just assumed it was you.

You should try to make it up to the Bay area if you can.  Much more interesting place than LA

"Interesting” is one way to describe it.

I'll bet every major city looks like that if you reported every poop pile you saw from 2011-2019.
