Key word "may".

May do absolutely nothing. Which is likely the case.

The only thing they know for sure is that wearing one doesn't keep you from contracting it or anything else. The rest is unproven speculation.

How are you so convinced masks do absolutely nothing to prevent respiratory illness? Lazy, selective reasoning. There are just as many studies, if not more, showing they are more effective than not.

This figure describes how people who wore a face covering were less likely to test positive than people who didn’t wear one.

But if we go to the far extreme to say they won't have any effect at all (which is untrue, because we have already observed facemasks reduce transmission), it's still pretty simple to wear one to protect others. I don't know why we are still arguing this in 2023.

Right, so masks don't protect you, vaccines don't either, and yet republicans started dropping dead from covid at a much higher rate than democrats right after vaccines were rolled out. Could it be because most of them are predominantly fat, old, and stupid? Sure, that's certainly part of it, but I can't help but wonder if there were any other factors at play. Guess we'll never find out!

Don't feed the troll.  The guy is moron and deals in absolutes for something he knows zero about.  He's a back woods alcoholic probably collecting money from disability.

First of all -

Second - the only ones dealing in absolutes in here are the posters who (still) claim that contracting COVID is 100% a death sentence

I was in Myrtle Beach last week

My wife booked us a place at Myrtle Beach as kind of a last second thing a couple months ago.  We had never been there but I had the time off and we wanted to get away for a few days.  We drove into this "resort", took one look around and drove right back out.  It looked like a terrifying vacation but it great place to get Hepatitis C.  But I hope you guys had fun!

What are you triggered that I've written several short posts on how funny I think outdoor masking is?

Most of the time my seat belt doesn't do anything but make me uncomfortable. Why should I wear it?

DUM-BASS.

dope is not a suitable substitute for dum-bass emb.

It always seems the only arguments they have are ones where they make things up.

Do you wear a mask as often as you wear your seatbelt, riot?

No. I find it's silly you still have any care.... It's their own business if people want to wear one. They aren't hurting anyone.

Again, I don't care. I find it funny.

Because instead of you doing what you believe in, you insist on my allegiance to your beliefs and my answer is still "no".

The argument continues.

Wear your mask. 😉

Wife and I are in our 2nd bout with Covid. Her symptoms started Friday and she’s on the mend. Worst it got for her was bad head/sinus congestion to the point that she couldn’t really taste or smell anything for a day or two but it is lessening the last 2 days. She tested herself last night because she found out a kid in her classroom tested positive. Since I’d been congested since Monday I tested myself too and also tested positive. We were both chalking our symptoms up to the kittens that we rescued and are currently fostering that we’re both allergic to. I had also forgotten to take my allergy meds Monday morning which is when my symptoms first started. Throughout the day I’ve gotten more run down feeling and currently starting to get aching pain in the joints and back. Fun.

Summary: proper usage of the right kinds of masks is a measure that can significantly reduce infection/transmission AND mask mandates generally do not significantly reduce infection/transmission.  It isn't hard.

You can always make up something when you don't have a real argument.

Why you always lean into make up something idiotic is a mystery.

That sounds horrible.  What resort was it?  If you ask me Myrtle ****s unless you are there for golf only in which case it is like going to a buffet with varying levels of quality.

I don't remember the name of the place but it was right there in the main strip.  Myrtle's rough, it's like Pigeon Forge/Gattlinburg on the coast.
