Bill Maher has been the only one really talking about this. It's definitely a piece to the puzzle that it's worse here than in other developed nations because Americans are so unhealthy.

Nobody is fat and out of shape in countries that cant feed themselves.

Yes, but in developing nations, you have additional problems of living in tight spaces, poor sanitation, a greater lack of access to medical care, scarcity of food, etc.

July 2, 20205 yr 10,109 new cases in FL today. We also had our youngest death, an 11 year old boy in Miami.

While I politically disagree with Maher on almost everything, I religiously (he'd love using that term) watch Real Time and find him to be generally hysterical and thought provoking. His comments on health and the impact on the immune system have been spot on. Obesity really is the driving factor for the seriousness of this thing -- it's a shame the CDC hasn't been saying that and encouraging better health choices.

I’m glad she ultimately decided to stay in Sweden as I wouldn’t want to be on the hook for a big tuition somewhere in the US if they can’t go 100% in person. She can do an exchange year instead some other year. My daughter is doing her clinical year to be a Veterinarian, pretty impossible to do that remotely. She did her first couple rotations via VR headsets and gear but now they are starting to do it in person. She's in Colorado.

Maher always has that one pet issue that he hammers home constantly. It used to be the anti-religious stuff, then it was pro-weed, and while his still touches on both of those occasionally, it's all about how our food is killing us now. But my favorite thing on his show (back when he had live panels) was when he'd go on an anti-marriage/anti-kid rant and none of the other guests (who are mostly married with kids) will touch it.
July 2, 20205 yr I like Maher. Even if you don't agree with him he provides intelligent, humorous, thought provoking perspectives on lots of topics.

It's solid political humor, and the panels tend to be engaging and informative. I disagree politically with John Oliver too, but I watch Last Week Tonight every week as I find the show to be really informative and entertaining as well. I've never understood people who don't watch comedians based on political views. Funny is funny. Letterman is a comedic genius, even if he is a liberal. Leno is a hack, no matter what his politics.

Me too. I'm generally progressive, but I'm really an old-school liberal at my core, and I think we need him now more than ever as a voice of reason on the left. The younger generation is really getting nutty with some of this stuff. Bill says things now and then that make me raise an eyebrow, but I generally appreciate his perspective in the midst of the insanity.

His denunciation of the woke Twitter mob is really refreshing and sorely needed on your side.

For sure, and I give him props for inviting people on his show who are wayyyyy outside of our end of the spectrum. You've got to understand how the other side thinks if you're going to really make sense of the the political landscape and strategize.

Maher's still riding in his Politically Incorrect school of thought from the 90's, where most liberals were anti-PC in the same vein that they were anti Religious censorship. I worry who takes that mantle when Maher hangs it up. He's getting up there in age. Oliver's pretty mainstream woke-ish, so it's not him.

Fast-forward to 2020 where now you've got a chunk of the left acting as the PC police (cancel culture) and a chunk of the right saying "My body, my choice!" (masks). The world has gone insane.
July 2, 20205 yr it really is crazy. a local amusement park (knoebel's) announced on their fb page yesterday that they're requiring masks & people went apesheet! last i checked there were over 5,000 comments.
