July 8, 20205 yr NC has had a couple of outbreaks at places I think Mecklenburg is our worse county in terms of cases and all OUTBREAK AT RALEIGH NURSING HOME A coronavirus outbreak was reported Wednesday at a nursing home in Raleigh. Twenty residents and 16 staff members at Litchford Falls Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center have tested positive for the virus. The facility is one of a few Wake County elder-care facilities with new outbreaks, according to the data made from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services made public Tuesday. Smaller outbreaks were reported Tuesday at Cary Health and Rehabilitation, a nursing home, and Sunrise of North Hills, an assisted-living facility. Wake County on Wednesday announced an outbreak at The Oaks at Whitaker Glen-Mayview in Raleigh. The county did not say how many are affected. Elder-care facilities have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. Statewide, 134 nursing homes and 77 residential care facilities have outbreaks of the virus, data show. More than 4,600 COVID-19 cases and 680 deaths have been reported at nursing homes and more than 1,300 cases and 119 deaths have been reported at residential care facilities. OUTBREAK AT CHILD CARE CENTER A coronavirus outbreak was reported at another Mecklenburg County child care center Tuesday. Heaven’s Angels Childcare in Charlotte has an active outbreak of the virus, county officials say. In late June, the county reported the first local child care center outbreak. A total of 22 other facilities in the county have ongoing outbreaks — including nursing homes, rehab centers, group homes and the Mecklenburg County Detention Center.
July 8, 20205 yr Hospitals in Houston are almost tapped out. NYC all over again. Hopefully the Gov. has the same ability to get things done without much federal help.

It's probably not going to look good in the next day or two with the way trends have been. Week starting 6/14 = 1,758 - 2,783 - 2,610 - 3,207 - 3,822 - 4,049 - 3,500 Week starting 6/21 = 2,9220 - 3,289 - 5,508 - 5,004 - 8,942 - 9,585 - 8,530 Week starting 6/28 = 5,266 - 6,093 - 6,563 - 10,109 - 9,488 - 11,458 - 10,059 Week starting 7/5 = 6,336 - 7,347 - 9,989 But it's all good. Our Governor held a press conference and said cases have stabilized. He also still won't release hospital stats and won't explain why, but totally nothing to do with 56 hospitals with full ICU's. Health department all but said they aren't even going to bother with trace contacting anymore as its impossible at this point. But hey, schools open 5 days a week and Disney is open, LETS GO!

Mostly they are waiting for guidance from the District but the tentative plans were if one staff or student get its, they have to quarantine 2 weeks. If two or more students in the same class test positive, the whole class quarantines two weeks. If its a certain number and spread across different classrooms either teachers or students, the whole school closes two weeks and has a deep clean. I get the strategy they are going for, but it just seems to be almost impossible to have those guidelines and have anything close to a productive school year. I still haven't heard what the plan is if a spouse or someone else in the family tests positive what happens to the student or teacher and if they have to test negative to return to school. I dunno. I just don't see the testing aspect outside of temperature checks implemented anywhere at all, or even possible. I don't see how they are going to distinguish COVID vs Flu/slight fever when the time comes, and there's going to be no social distance or mask mandate. It's just a matter of time until failure. Agreed with all of that. I am tending to think that schools will start the year on a virtual platform with the hopes of going back to the classroom in January. I also think a fair amount of people will homeschool or elect to do virtual schooling if that becomes a choice. One issue with virtual live learning is classroom management and discipline. Hard to keep order in the room with moms at home watching and judging.

We'll see what the other push back is and if they settle somewhere in the middle. I just have a feeling it's going to be a total failure like mostly everything else has been. I get both sides on this, too. I understand the need for schools to be open and how ultimately that's what's best in a perfect world. I just think they are going to face so much interruption one way or another that in the end, it's going to be just as detrimental to students, if not more, than virtual learning.
July 8, 20205 yr Trump can push all he wants but he's going to find out you don't mess with someone's children. If parents don't want to send them they will not send them.

It doesn’t help that Devos threatened to withhold funding if schools do not open and will blame the Democrats when they don’t open and don’t get the funding. And people want to believe this covid crap isn’t being used as a political train.

When people ask why they're refusing to open schools, Dems can reply that we need fewer people coming into contact with each other in order to slow this virus. From there, you either agree and accept the crappiness of sacrificing today to make recovery easier tomorrow. Or you believe that it's a hoax or not that serious or an inconvenience, and generally that group would blame the Dems no matter what.

Well that’s the issue - dems want to remain conservative and keep distancing and keep states closed. Trumpbots already beat the economy horse to death over the shut downs, so this will be the next step in driving their political agendas.

Maybe I should research this first, but during the initial stages of the pandemic, weren't these 3 states among the states with the LEAST amount infected? Florida was a given bc Florida. And I guess Texas too bc Dallas fans. But I held Arizona to a higher standard. Didn't think there were that many window lickers in that state.
