Numbers as of last Friday's report which is the latest official report from Sweden's health institute.  The topic is Corona deaths (people who had Corona when they died) per week across the country.  The Horizontal access is week #.  Week 10 was just in the beginning of March and week 30 was the week ending July 26th.  The vertical access is the number of deaths during that week.

As of this point all numbers are low in Sweden including all the rates of positive tests.  No sign of a 2nd wave here at this point.

So Sweden's deaths only increased for 4 weeks and since has steadily gone down including 3 significant drops.  And if there is no 2nd wave that's a huge victory for the people of Sweden.

Way too early to draw any conclusions.  Plus while the numbers are probably as good as any over time they are far from perfect for a given week given lags in reporting, etc.  Take it with a grain of salt but at the same time the pattern looks pretty good.  If you buy the theory then we've burned thru large chunks here in the bigger cities/towns anyway and are seeing the spread diminish.  Of course no one knows if the immunity wears off or if another mutation of the strain sets the clock back to the beginning.

I think the main take away is that no one knows much with this thing.  Everyone is guessing as the data is simply imperfect.

how is compliance with masks and distancing among the population?

I bet the Swedish people are smarter than the idiots we have here.

Interesting article for anyone who is interested.

Distancing is fair.  Not always great but people are trying to keep a distance from each other in stores, etc. and it works fairly well.

Sweden has no mask recommendation.  You see a mask here and there but quite rare.  I'd estimate just a couple percent, say 3% of the population, are wearing masks.

Hand sanitizer is everywhere and everyone is using that.  People aren't shaking hands or making any physical public contact.  No one sneezes/coughs openly.  No one has large parties, just small gatherings of less than say 10.  Families are very careful with their older generations who are mostly very isolated.  Everything is open but no gatherings over 50 and no entertainment type gatherings though movie theaters are open with people very spread out and only 50 total in a salon.  No theater, no concerts, no sports (no fans), no school gatherings, no work picnics, etc. etc.  All office workers work from home.  No standing in bars/clubs but restaurants are close to normal.

A price has been paid no doubt with a relative high rate of deaths relative to other Nordic countries (80% in nursing homes) and the jury is still out on 2nd and/or 3rd waves so WAY early to make any conclusions but for the moment things are relatively quiet now.

Isn't that typical there anyway?  I think I sat to close to someone on the metro and got a funny look.  It was pretty empty.  I felt like the expectation was to sit as far away as possible from other people.

They have a rather large amount of personal space in public yeah but this is a much greater level.

Yeah I added some context.

Right I see it. Yes they would think it a bit strange if you sat next to them when there is an entire empty section for example.

I wasn't even that close but I got the hint pretty quickly lol

I'm pretty sure EagleVA called into 97.5 today.  I was listening to Anthony and they were talking about Covid.  Someone called in, said its really no different than the flu and everyone who died had a Vitamin D deficiency.  So if everyone would take Vitamin D they would be fine and to do your research.

Ha.  My dad called into the Ike Reese and Jon Marks show on 94.1 recently (might have been friday) to talk COVID with them.

"I think you’re correct, in that we’ve seen this in other disease processes too, really in the HIV epidemic, somebody may have a heart attack, but also have HIV — the hospital would prefer the [classification] for HIV because there’s greater reimbursement,” Redfield replied.

Similarly, because of the CARES Act passed by Congress in March, hospitals receive a 20 percent premium when seeking payment for Medicare patients who died allegedly of the coronavirus.

"So I do think there’s some reality to that. When it comes to death reporting, though, ultimately, it’s how the physician defines it in the death certificate and … we review all of those death certificates,” the CDC director continued.

‘’So I think, probably it is less operable in the cause of death, although I won’t say there are not some cases. I do think though [that] when it comes to hospital reimbursement issues or individuals that get discharged, there could be some play in that for sure.”

You know they're actually undercounting Covid-19 deaths, right?

Of course you don't, because you get your news from conservative media, which is essentially made up (especially when it comes to Corona).

Trump is doing a great job alright...  He's really doing a great job developing a national strategy...

Ever wonder why we all have to wear masks and kids can't go back to school?  Even Barron Trump's school is online.  Think about that - President Trump, who wants kids to go back to school this month, can't even find a school to teach his own son face-to-face.

I guess it must be a Democratic Hoax, huh?

Nice...

So I've been skimming thru both the July and August board meeting vids from my old high school watching to see how the discussion goes regarding what the new school year will look like.  Obviously this is a very complex and difficult topic to get one's head around.  There are many unknowns and very few knowns.

The one thing I continually hear people say is "as long as it is safe".  I can't help but think "what does that really mean?".  Of course no one can really say.  Is it "safe" to drive on I-95?  Where does the line get drawn between additional safety vs. the value that is lost if schools are kept virtual?  There isn't really a correct answer but rather just a best estimate/guess.

btw - They passed a hybrid plan that includes in person classes, online classes, and a flexible in/out set of choices for students.  The early years in elementary school are required in person.  An interesting and flexible plan but will certainly create some real potential for confusion.

So liberal media is always truthful?

Trump Pence Make America Great Again

    Trumpbot,

I know how difficult the past few months have been. Your unwavering support during this time has not gone unnoticed.

I am writing to you now, not to ask for a contribution, but to ask for your help.

We are all in this together, and while I know there has been some confusion surrounding the usage of face masks, I think it’s something we should all try to do when we are not able to be socially distanced from others.

I don’t love wearing them either. Masks may be good, they may be just okay, or they may be great. They can possibly help us get back to our American way of life that so many of us rightfully cherished before we were so terribly impacted by the China Virus.

My feeling is, we have nothing to lose, and possibly everything to gain, including the next chapter to our country, and to keep things open whether it be schools or businesses.

I recently tweeted that many view wearing a mask as a patriotic act, and there is no one more patriotic than me and you. Why not give it a shot!

    Thank you,

    President Trump Signature Headshot

oh that is going to confuse the average trumper.

The deep state got to the Trump campaign! They've been hacked!

Somebody tell Trump he'll fix it!

Sure they are.  Here's the director of the CDC admitting that there is a financial incentive to overcount, which is known to have been going on the entire time, yet all you can do is sputter media narrative talking points.  Nice.

somebody tell those dead people to stop faking it!  :furious:
