I don't think schools can be re-open but I understand that there are families that can't deal or handle an online school year

I also don't think you can make sure every student wears their mask

Right.  Moss seems to have every detail figured out but I think there are a TON of variables.  Many are human variables, e.g. can kids keep their masks on, etc. but many are also unknowns in how exactly the virus behaves, spreads, mutates, drives immunity in people. etc. etc. etc.

as of right now, my kid's school is planning to go back in person. they put a bunch of rules in place involving masks, social distancing, hand washing, etc.  and they don't actually start for another 3 weeks so there's a chance they'll switch to distance learning before then.

even if they do start off in person, i feel confident that they would switch to distance learning before things got bad...either on their own or as a result of gov. wolf. thankfully, wolf has been very proactive with shut downs...even though he gets a lot of sheet for it.

Damn, Trump just obliterated the dems here.

Oh wow, they didn't ban in-person learning? They're trying to kill teachers and parents. Stay safe, hunt.

By "beat" do you mean "flatten the curve" or just what do you mean?

Lower the number of new cases so we can resume normal activities.  I.e. send kids back to school

Based on my observations Americans aren’t willing to do what it takes though.

Sure but if you then lift the restrictions without a vaccine or herd immunity in play the virus comes back.  How fast, how hard, etc. is all unknown at this point.  Masks help for sure as does social distancing but these measures are inexact in terms of the science.

I don’t think it’s as unknown as you think.  More needs to be learned, but some precautions we could take are common sense.

Not arguing against that Dave.  However, I'd be happy for you to show me the list of multiple long term extensive peer reviewed/approved set of studies that cover all the relevant details related to the COVID-19 virus and how to successfully stop, control, and maintain the spread of it.  While you're at it you can point me to the successful implementation, testing, scaled affordable production, and distribution of a worldwide (or if you want we can stick to North Carolina) permanent vaccine that produces no significant side effects.

There's just no way to make sure every student abides by the rules

That the one that Duke was working on? I hadn't heard there was a working vaccine

The North Carolina reference was just a nod to Dave who lives there now.  Not thinking about a Duke research project or any other specific project.

We know enough to beat the virus.  20-30% of the population listens to Trump and they’re the super-spreaders.

Is that a new scientific term, backed up by metrics?

If you don’t wear a mask (or improperly wear one) and you have Covid-19, you’re potentially a super-spreader.   I don’t think it’s a scientific term.

See you should trademark it and make money at least.

Wrong hole.

I think the most common examples are people who don't know they have the disease and who have been in a large group of people for an extended period of time thus infecting a whole bunch of them, e.g. cruise, afterski, wedding, etc.

"Super-spreader" is a real term for anyone who transmits the disease to a disproportionately high number of secondary contacts.

It was also Dave's mother's nickname in college...BAH! :flex: (I miss Probably)

What level of spreaders are these:  basic, mega or super?
